Expression of metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 long non-coding RNA and in patients with non-small cell lung cancer.

The present study aimed to investigate the association between the expression of metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) and the recurrence of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to elucidate the potential mechanisms of MALAT1 . Between 1 June 1, 2010 and December 30, 2016, NSCLC tumor tissues and adjacent non-cancerous tissues were obtained from 120 patients with NSCLC, who had undergone surgical resection at Taizhou Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (Linhai, China). The total RNA of tissues and cells were extracted and the expression of MALAT1 was determined using a wound healing assay and reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction.

A patient with an unusual cyst of the inter-atrial septum and atrial sepal defect.

Hepatic and renal cysts are relatively common among healthy people, but there are few published reports of primary cysts of the atrial septum. Here, we report a case of an unusual cyst of the atrial septum accompanied by atrial septal defect (ASD) in a 42-year-old woman. Microscopic examination showed the deposition of calcium salts within the tissue mass and an organized thrombus surrounded by a fibrous capsule.

Analysis of epitope-based vaccine candidates against the E antigen of the hepatitis B virus based on the B genotype sequence: An in silico and in vitro approach.

Chronic hepatitis B virus infection is a worldwide health problem with no current effective strategy to achieve a cure. The Hepatitis B virus (HBV) E antigen (HBeAg) has a negative effect on the immune system and a therapeutic vaccine is a promising strategy in order to treat chronic virus infection. In this study, we analyzed and identified the MHC-I, MHC-II and B cell epitopes of the HBeAg based on a B genotype sequence of HBV using a bioinformatic approach and in vitro experiments.

Butein activates p53 in hepatocellular carcinoma cells via blocking MDM2-mediated ubiquitination.

Introduction: In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of butein on p53 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and the related molecular mechanisms by which p53 was activated.

Methods: MTS assay and clonogenic survival assay were used to examine the antitumor activity of butein in vitro. Reporter gene assay was adopted to evaluate p53 transcriptional activity.

To observe the effect of purple sweet potato anthocyanins on the proliferation of bladder cancer cell line BIU87 and to investigate the molecular mechanisms. Bladder cancer BIU87 cells were cultured and exposed to anthocyanins at the different concentrations of 100, 200, 400, and 800 μg/ml respectively. The growth inhibition of anthocyanins on BIU87 cells were evaluated by morphometry and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, and the cell apoptosis rate was detected by Flow cytometry (FCM).

Introduction: Surgical ablation is a generally established treatment for patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing concomitant cardiac surgery. Background: In spite of an initial good response to epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR TKIs) in lung adenocarcinoma patients, resistance to treatment eventually occurs. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) activation stimulates Ras/Raf/Erk/MAPK and influences PI3K/Akt pathways, respectively. PHLPP negatively regulates PI3K/Akt and the RAF/RAS/ERK signaling pathways.

Intermittent stuck valve after aortic valve replacement with a mechanical valve: A case report.

Background: Intermittent stuck valve after mechanical valve replacement surgery is a very rare and severe complication.

Case Summary: We present 1 case of a 53-year-old woman after aortic valve replacement for severe aortic valve stenosis combined with hypertrophy septum. She was diagnosed with intermittent stuck valve only 1 day after surgery by clinical symptoms, intraoperative transoesophageal echocardiogram, and intraoperative findings.

A rare fatal case of a novel bunyavirus-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Herein we describe a rare fatal case of a novel bunyavirus-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in a 62-year-old female patient. The novel bunyavirus infects patients with or without HLH who have similar clinical features such as fever, thrombocytopenia, and leukocytopenia. Therefore, the diagnosis of HLH can be easily missed.

Platelet-activating factor (PAF) and its receptor (PAFR), have been reported to participate in many cellular processes of cancer. However, little is known about their function in prostate cancer. In the present study, we found that PAFR was overexpressed in prostate cancer cells.

The peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) count is a routinely used and meaningful index for infection and blood diseases. PBMCs may be closely related to osteoclasts and include osteoclast precursors; we examined the association between the PBMC count and bone health. This research included 2806 community men aged ≥50 years who underwent full health examinations from October 2007 through December 2011 in four medical centers.

Effects of T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-containing molecule-3 signaling molecule on human monocyte-derived dendritic cells with hepatitis B virus surface antigen stimulation in vitro.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vitro effects of hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) on the immune function of human monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MD‑DCs), and the moderating role of T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain‑containing molecule‑3 (Tim‑3) signaling molecule. The monocytes, obtained from healthy adult peripheral blood, were incubated with recombinant human granulocyte‑macrophage colony‑stimulating factor and interleukin (IL)‑4 to induce DCs. DC‑associated cell markers were detected using flow cytometry.

Pulmonary oncocytoma: a case report.

A 70-year-old man complained of no discomfort was admitted to our hospital because of a nodules was found in his lung. Chest computer tomography showed a nodules arising from the upper lobe of the left lung, and the lesion became larger in 2 years follow-up period. The patient underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery of lobectomy to remove the nodules.

Phase I study of icotinib, an EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor combined with IMRT in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a new target for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) therapy. This prospective phase I study sought to determine the safety and recommended phase II dose of icotinib, a novel highly selective oral EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor, in combination with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in patients with NPC.

Association between serum uric acid and bone health in general population: a large and multicentre study.

Previous studies proposed that serum uric acid (UA), an endogenous antioxidant, could be a protective factor against bone loss. However, recently, a study with a population of US adults did not note the protective effects of serum UA. Therefore, the exact association between serum UA and bone health remains unclear.

Endogenous lipoid pneumonia presenting as solitary pulmonary nodule: a case report.

A 63-year-old woman complained of hemoptysis was admitted to our hospital. Chest computed tomography (CT) showed a solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN) arising from the lower lobe of the right lung which was considered as lung malignancy. The patient underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) of pulmonary wedge resection to remove the nodule.

Prognostic correlation between MTA2 expression level and colorectal cancer.

Objectives: Association of MTA2 expression with presence, development, metastasis and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) was investigated.

Methods: 90 CRC-related cases with follow-up information were made into tissue microarrays according to the paired principle of cancer tissues and the adjacent tissues. Subsequently, the expression of MAT2 was detected with immunohistochemical analysis and SPSS software was finally utilized to analyze the relationships between experimental data and clinical indicatives.
