This study investigated the value of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD) caused by Sedum aizoon (SA). The clinical manifestations, treatment results, imaging findings, and histological findings of the liver were analyzed in 39 patients with HVOD caused by SA. Hepatomegaly, liver dysfunction, abdominal effusion, and geographic density changes on liver CT scans were found in all 39 patients.

Objective: To assess the association between -1296T/C and -915A/G polymorphisms in the promoter region of matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor-3 gene (TIMP-3) and atherosclerotic cerebral infarction in an ethnic Han Chinese population.

Methods: Peripheral blood samples were collected from 485 patients with atherosclerotic cerebral infarction and 525 healthy controls. Serum levels of TIMP-3 were measured with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol

January 2015

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, Collaborative Innovation Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background & Aims: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are used to treat various psychiatric disorders. However, there are concerns that SSRIs increase the risk for upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB).

Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled observational studies to determine whether SSRI use affects the risk for UGIB.

Objective: To assess the association between 2 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located in exonic regions of matrix metalloproteinase-10 (MMP-10) gene and instability of carotid plaques in a Han Chinese population.

Methods: Five hundred and eighty-five patients were divided into carotid vulnerable plaque group (n=206) and stable plaque group (n=379) based on results of carotid B-mode ultrasonography. The SNPs were genotyped by real-time polymerase chain reaction using an ABI 7300 TaqMan platform.

Objective: To investigate whether hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) can modulate the ability of dendritic cells (DCs) to produce inflammatory cytokines (IL-12/IL-6) upon stimulation in vitro.

Methods: Purified adherent mononuclear cells isolated by Ficoll-hypaque density gradient centrifugation were cultured in complete medium containing granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor plus interleukin (IL)-4 to generate immature (i)DCs. Microscopic analysis and flow cytometry were performed to define the phenotypic characteristics of the iDCs.

Specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors prevent interferon-α-induced depression in patients with hepatitis C: a meta-analysis.

Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol

September 2014

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Background & Aims: Interferon-α (IFN-α)-induced depression is a major complication to treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can be used to treat depression, but it is not clear whether they can prevent depression in patients receiving IFN therapy for chronic HCV infection.

Methods: We performed a meta-analysis by searching the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and EMBASE databases through 2013 for published results from randomized, placebo-controlled trials evaluating the utility of SSRIs in preventing IFN-induced depression in HCV patients.

Objective: To develop a solid phase PCR method by covalent single point immobilization for recycle utilization of human genome.

Methods: Polymethacrylamide gel was selected as a solid PCR carrier based on DNA-hydrogel copolymer chemistry presented by Mirzabekov. (CH2)6NH2 amino-modified PCR product and randomly fractured formic acid-modified plasmid pGEM-T-HLA-G were used as templates.

Background And Objective: precious studies proven that the overexpression of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) in a variety of solid tumors has linked with malignant tumorigenesis, invasion and metastasis. The aim of this work is to explore the expression of eIF4E and its clinical significance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) through immunohistochemical method.

Methods: seventy NSCLC specimens were constructed into tissue microarray, simultaneously took 19 cases adjacent tissues and 20 cases normal lung tissue as control, all performed using immunohistochemistry (Envision).

Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the clustering status of risk factors for young patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and analyse the relationship between risk factors and CAD.

Methods: 168 patients with CAD aged under 45 years, 170 age-matched non-CAD individuals (angiographically normal) and 170 patients with CAD aged over 45 years were set as CAD group, control group and reference group, respectively. Plasma levels of lipids, C-reactive protein (CRP), traditional risk factors (hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, diabetes, obesity, smoking) were evaluated.

Objective: To explore the different therapeutic effects of comminuted clavicular fracture with acromioclavicular external fixtatior and DCP internal fixation.

Methods: There were 768 cases of comminuted clavicular fracture involved in the study. Among them, 528 patients (321 male and 207 female, aged from 15 to 82 years) treated with acromioclavicular external fixator, in which there were 165 cases of three parts fracture and 363 cases of more than three parts fracture; 240 patients (152 males and 88 females, aged from 17 to 64 years) treated with the internal fixation, in which there were 178 cases of three parts fracture and 62 cases of more than three parts fracture.
