The loads that have several working states cannot be accurately distinguished by the conventional Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) methods. This paper proposed an improved NILM method based on the Resnet18 Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm to address the misidentification of multi-state appliances. The V-I trajectories of loads are at first classified with Resnet18.

Key Laboratory of Photonic Technology for Integrated Sensing and Communication, Ministry of Education of China, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou, 510006, China.

Common-signal-induced synchronization of semiconductor lasers have promising applications in physical-layer secure transmission with high speed and compatibility with the current fiber communication. Here, we propose an ultra-long-distance laser synchronization scheme by utilizing random digital optical communication signal as the common drive signal. By utilizing the long-haul optical coherent communication techniques, high-fidelity fiber transmission of the digital drive can be achieved and thus ultra-long-distance synchronization is expected.

The species sensitivity distribution (SSD) analysis for aquatic ecosystems has been increasingly used in risk assessment. However, existing analyses of the impact of trace metals in lake sediments on aquatic organisms often neglect the spatiotemporal variability of trace metal release. This oversight can result in ecological risk assessments that lack specificity.

December 2024

Institute of Applied Mechanics, College of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan 030024, China.

Based on the basic theoretical framework of the Bi-directional Evolutionary Structural Optimization method (BESO) and the Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization method (SIMP), this paper presents a multiscale topology optimization method for concurrently optimizing the sandwich structure at the macro level and the core layer at the micro level. The types of optimizations are divided into macro and micro concurrent topology optimization (MM), macro and micro gradient concurrent topology optimization (MMG), and macro and micro layered gradient concurrent topology optimization (MMLG). In order to compare the multiscale optimization method with the traditional macroscopic optimization method, the sandwich simply supported beam is illustrated as a numerical example to demonstrate the functionalities and superiorities of the proposed method.

: Studies have shown that emotion recognition based on electroencephalogram (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) multimodal physiological signals exhibits superior performance compared to that of unimodal approaches. Nonetheless, there remains a paucity of in-depth investigations analyzing the inherent relationship between EEG and fNIRS and constructing brain networks to improve the performance of emotion recognition. : In this study, we introduce an innovative method to construct hybrid brain networks in the source space based on simultaneous EEG-fNIRS signals for emotion recognition.

Methane Adsorption in Heterogeneous Potential Wells of Coal: Characterization Model and Applications.

Langmuir

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Insitu Property improving Mining of Ministry of Education, Taiyuan University of Technology, No,18 Xinkuangyuan Road, Wanbailin District, Taiyuan, Shanxi 030024, P. R. China.

In terms of the phenomenon of nonuniformity adsorption energy between methane and a natural heterogeneous coal surface, a heterogeneous potential well model is established in this study based on adsorption science and molecular dynamics theories. This model describes the methane adsorption positions in coal pores as a three-dimensional space composed of adsorption equipotential surfaces with varying depths of potential well, which emphasizes the heterogeneous distribution of methane adsorption potential well depths in coal and accurately describes the spatial distribution and energy states of methane molecules during methane adsorption and desorption in naturally heterogeneous coal. By taking the residual sum of squares (RSS) and Pearson correlation coefficient as indicators, the fitting accuracies of the Langmuir model and the heterogeneous potential well model for isothermal adsorption and desorption curves are compared so that the superiority of the heterogeneous potential well model in describing the adsorption and desorption of methane in natural coal is confirmed.

Bone tissue is a biological composite material with a complex hierarchical structure that could continuously adjust its internal structure to adapt to the alterations in the external load environment. The fluid flow within bone is the main route of osteocyte metabolism, and the pore pressure as well as the fluid shear stress generated by it are important mechanical stimuli perceived by osteocytes. Owing to the irregular multiscale structure of bone tissue, the fluid stimulation that lacunar-canalicular network (LCN) in different regions of the tissue underwent remained unclear.

Cross-alignment of silver nanowires network for efficient nanowelding.

Nanotechnology

January 2025

College of Materials Science and Engineering, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan 030024, People's Republic of China.

The performance of silver nanowire (AgNW) network flexible transparent electrodes is limited by large contact resistance, making it necessary to perform nanowelding to improve conductivity of the network. However, not all nanowire junctions can be welded. Our work indicates that the welding kinetics between nanowires depend on the crossing angle, with higher surface diffusion velocity prone to welding and fracture at nanowire junctions of crossing angles close to 90 degrees.

Reservoir-operation optimisation is a crucial aspect of water-resource development and sustainable water process management. This study addresses bi-objective optimisation problems by proposing a novel crossover evolution operator, known as the hybrid simulated binary and improved arithmetic crossover (SBAX) operator, based on the simulated binary cross (SBX) and arithmetic crossover operators, and applies it to the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms-II (NSGA-II) algorithm to improve the algorithm. In particular, the arithmetic crossover operator can obtain an optimal solution more precisely within the solution space, whereas the SBX operator can explore a broader range of potential high-quality solutions.
