In this work, a novel α-nucleating agent (NA) for polypropylene (PP) termed APAl-3C-12Li was prepared and evaluated compared with the commercially available type NA-21. For the synthesis of the organophosphate-type NA (APAl-3C), the -OH group of the acid part of NA-21 was substituted by the isopropoxy group. The structure of APAl-3C was analyzed by spectroscopy and element analysis, the results of which were consistent with the theoretical molecular formula.

With the excessive smartphone use in the workplace, supervisor phubbing has drawn broad concerns in managerial and academic fields. Though the neglect is unintentional, this behavior can generate counterproductive working behaviors. The basic assumptions of this study are that supervisor phubbing can impact employee psychological withdrawal behavior directly and indirectly via work alienation.

Nutrient-rich hydrothermal carbon production by exogenous nutrients combined with seaweed internal water.

J Environ Manage

February 2024

Shandong Key Laboratory of Biomass Gasification Technology, Energy Research Institute, Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences), 19 Ke-yuan Road, Jinan, 250014, Shandong, China. Electronic address:

As a product of hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) technology, hydrothermal carbon has shown excellent application potential in soil improvement, greenhouse gas reduction and pollution remediation. Since a large amount of water and biomass are directly used as reaction media, hydrothermal carbon produced by traditional HTC possesses poor nutrient properties and accompanied by the generation of toxic and hazardous wastewater. Here, a versatile and easily scalable strategy has been demonstrated for the one-step production of industrial nutrient-rich hydrothermal carbon (NRHC) by combining the exogenous nutrients with seaweed internal water.

This study employs the phase-field regularized cohesion model (PF-CZM) to simulate crack propagation and damage behavior in porous granite. The impact of the pore radius (r), initial crack-pore distance (D), and pore-crack angle (θ) on crack propagation is investigated. The simulation findings reveal that, with a fixed deflection angle and initial crack-pore distance, larger pores are more likely to induce crack extension under identical loading conditions.

December 2023

Key Laboratory of Applied Surface and Colloid Chemistry, Ministry of Education, School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an 710062, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the development of zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for efficient methane storage, addressing concerns about the stability of these materials despite their high capacity.
  • A new series of UiO-66 type Zr-MOFs were synthesized using amide-functionalized ligands and showed strong structural integrity and hydrolytic stability across a range of pH values.
  • The volumetric methane storage capacities of the new Zr-MOFs varied, with the highest performing variant displaying capacities of 187 cm³ at 298 K and 217 cm³ at 273 K under 80 bar pressure, demonstrating their potential for practical methane storage applications.

The high device density and fabrication complexity have hampered the development of the electronics. The advanced designs, which could implement the functions of the circuits with higher device density but less fabrication complexity, are hence required. Meanwhile, the MoS-based devices have recently attracted considerable attention owing to their advantages such as the ultrathin thickness.

Optimizing the active centers through reconstruction is recognized as the key to construct high-performance oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts. Herein, a simple and rapid in situ leaching strategy to promote the self-reconstruction of NiFe-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) catalysts is reported. The trace Zn dopants are introduced in advance by a facile and one-step hydrothermal method, followed by leaching over the electrochemical activation process, which can remarkably reduce the formation potential of NiFeOOH active centers to enable the deeper self-reconstruction for the formation of abundant highly active centers.

Internal and External Pipe Defect Characterization via High-Frequency Lamb Waves Generated by Unidirectional EMAT.

Sensors (Basel)

October 2023

Hubei Key Laboratory of Modern Manufacturing Quantity Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, Hubei University of Technology, Wuhan 430068, China.

Periodic permanent magnet(PPM) electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) are commonly employed for axial defect inspection in pipelines. However, the lowest-order shear horizontal waves (SH0) guided waves have difficulties in distinctly differentiating internal and external defects. To enhance the signal-to-noise ratio and resolution, a unidirectional electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) based on Circumferential Lamb waves (CLamb waves) is developed.

In this work, 1 wt% of graphite oxide (GO) was used to strengthen the interface of carbon fibers (CF) reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFR-PEEK) composites, so as to obtain sufficiently high mechanical properties and bioactive surfaces which are two fundamental requirements for orthopedic/dental implants. Concretely, aminated GO was grafted onto oxidized CF in aqueous solution in a mild and non-toxic manner, subsequently, the CF grafted by GO was used for injection molding to prepare CFR-PEEK implant. The dispersibility of CF in the composites were remarkably boosted.

Disturbance mitigation of thiencarbazone-methyl·isoxaflutole on bacterial communities through nitrification inhibitor and attapulgite.

Environ Pollut

January 2024

Qiqihar Branch of Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Qiqihar, 161006, Heilongjiang Province, China.

There is a knowledge gap in the interaction between the effects of herbicide thiencarbazone-methyl·isoxaflutole on soil microflora and environmental parameters, which leads to a lack of measures in mitigating damage to bacterial communities from the herbicide use. The impacts of thiencarbazone-methyl·isoxaflutole and soil parameters on the diversity, structure and functions of soil bacterial communities were clarified, and the effects and potential mitigation mechanisms of nitrapyrin and modified attapulgite with bacterial function intervention on bacterial communities were explored through incubation and field experiments. The results showed that as thiencarbazone-methyl·isoxaflutole application increased, the stress on soil bacterial community structure and diversity also increased.

In this study, 7075 aluminum alloy welding wire with TiB nanoparticle reinforcement as an additive together with the variable polarity TIG welding arc as a heat source were applied to produce thin-walled deposited layer samples. Results indicated that the performance of the deposited structure of 7075 aluminum alloy with a TiB reinforcement phase was significantly improved compared to the deposited structure of ordinary 7075 aluminum alloy welding wire. Meanwhile, the precipitation of the TiB reinforcement phase was insufficient within the structure, and the enhancing effect could not be fully exerted.

In this study, a novel reciprocating tribometer, in which the frictional pairs were immersed in liquid nitrogen directly, was developed to simulate the cryogenic fluid lubrication. To eliminate the negative influence of extremely low temperature on force sensors, a transfer structure of force-deformation, consisting of cantilever beams and measurement beams, was designed specially. It can transfer the structural deformations caused by the loading force and the friction force from the cryogenic zone to the room-temperature zone.
