This work established the cytotoxic, antioxidant and anticancer effects of copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) manufactured with fennel extract, especially on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as well. CuNPs caused cytotoxicity in a dose-dependent manner for two NSCLC cell lines, A549 and H1650. At 100 μg/ml, CuNPs reduced cell viability to 70% in A549 cells and 65% in H1650 cells.

To develop a clinical imaging method for monitoring macrophage migration to the defect site after implantation of various stem cells and evaluating immune responses in the context of knee arthritis, T2 mapping was correlated with CD68-positive cell densities in defects and the bone marrow. This study, which was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, used 32 New Zealand white rabbits preloaded with ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide particles (USPIOs). They were divided into groups that received different stem cell implants after osteochondral defect induction.

This study aims to evaluate the prognostic significance of preoperative serum cystatin C (Cys-C) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). We analyzed clinicopathological data and follow-up information of 624 RCC patients who underwent partial or radical nephrectomy at our institution. The optimal cutoff value of Cys-C was determined using X-tile software.

Background: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) cause delayed wound closed up in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but the specific regulatory mechanism of NETs-related genes (NETs-RGs) in T2DM is unclear.

Methods: We acquired GSE21321 and GSE15932 datasets from gene expression omnibus (GEO) database. First, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between T2DM and control samples of GSE21321 dataset were sifted out by differential expression analysis.

Chronic osteomyelitis is a chronic bone infection characterized by progressive osteonecrosis and dead bone formation, which is closely related to persistent infection and chronic inflammation. Exosomes derived from bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) play an important role in bone tissue regeneration and the modulation of inflammatory processes. However, their role and mechanism of action in osteomyelitis have not been reported so far.

Background: As an initial treatment for primary membranous nephropathy (PMN), there remains a significant proportion of patients for whom rituximab is not fully effective. Here, we aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of obinutuzumab as initial treatment in patients with PMN.

Methods: In this observational case series, patients diagnosed with PMN and treated with obinutuzumab as initial treatment were included.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Shanxi Key Laboratory of Birth Defect and Cell Regeneration, Key Laboratory of Coal Environmental Pathogenicity and Prevention, Ministry of Education, China, Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan 030001, China. Electronic address:

Ingestion of arsenic interferes with spermatogenesis and increases the risk of male infertility, but the underlying mechanism remines unclear. In this study, we investigated spermatogenic injury with a focus on blood-testis barrier (BTB) disruption by administrating 5 mg/L and 15 mg/L arsenic orally to adult male mice for 60 d. Our results showed that arsenic exposure reduced sperm quality, altered testicular architecture, and impaired Sertoli cell junctions at the BTB.

In this paper, in-depth research analysis of anti-hepatocellular carcinoma molecular targets for hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosis was conducted using artificial intelligence. Because BRD4 plays an important role in gene transcription for cell cycle regulation and apoptosis, tumor-targeted therapy by inhibiting the expression or function of BRD4 has received increasing attention in the field of antitumor research. Study subjects in small samples were used as the validation set for validating each diagnostic model constructed based on the training set.

Objective: To investigate the effect of cantharidin on DNA damage in hepatocellular carcinoma cells and its possible mechanism.

Methods: Cell proliferation assay and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay were used to analyze the effects of cantharidin on cell proliferation and apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells. The expression levels of DNA damage markers H2AX and P21 were analyzed by qRT-PCR.

Objective: To evaluate the completeness of reporting of acupuncture interventions in trials for functional constipation (FC) following the STandards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture (STRICTA) guidelines.

Methods: We searched eight databases for all published trials, including clinical trials, pilot/feasibility studies, observational studies, and case studies, for acupuncture in patients with FC up to June 31, 2021. The completeness of reporting was evaluated using the STRICTA guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate patterns of onset and recurrence in noncardiogenic ischemic stroke patients in China, focusing on various risk factors and patient characteristics.
  • A total of 2,558 patients were analyzed, revealing that 12.78% experienced recurrent strokes, with a majority being men and around two-thirds having hypertension and dyslipidemia.
  • Key findings highlighted the prevalence of specific syndromes like qi deficiency and blood stasis, emphasizing the need to address these alongside traditional risk factors in stroke management.

The Association of Left Atrial Appendage Morphology to Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence After Radiofrequency Ablation.

Front Cardiovasc Med

August 2021

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Shanghai East Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

The probability of late recurrent atrial fibrillation (AF) after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has not yet been fully clarified. This study aims to study the association of left atrial appendage (LAA) morphology with AF recurrence after RFA. We retrospectively enrolled 84 patients (24 patients had persistent AF, 60 patients had paroxysmal AF) who underwent RFA in Shanghai East Hospital from June 2014 to May 2018.

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of Prunella vulgaris on autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) in mice and explore its mechanism. Methods Forty C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal group, AIH model group and 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg Prunella vulgaris-treated AIH groups with 8 mice each. AIH mice were established with mouse liver antigen S100 mixed with Freund's complete adjuvant (S100/FCA) by intraperitoneal injection.

This study aimed to explore the role and mechanism(s) of flunarizine hydrochloride in the intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) rats. The 32 adult male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly assigned into four groups: control group, sham group, ICH group, and FLU + ICH group. The effects of flunarizine hydrochloride were assessed on the basis of hematoma volume, blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity, and brain water content in the ICH rat models.

Improving metabolic stability with deuterium: The discovery of GPU-028, a potent free fatty acid receptor 4 agonists.

Bioorg Med Chem

December 2017

School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Green Synthetic Chemistry for Functional Materials, Jiangsu Normal University, Xuzhou 221116, PR China. Electronic address:

The free fatty acid receptor 4 (FFA4) has emerged as a promising anti-diabetic target due to its function in improvement of insulin secretion and insulin resistance. The FFA4 agonist TUG-891 revealed great potential as a widely used pharmacological tool, but it has been suffered from high plasma clearance probably because the phenylpropanoic acid is vulnerable to β-oxidation. To identify metabolically stable analog without influence on physiological mechanism of TUG-891, we tried to incorporate deuterium at the α-position of phenylpropionic acid to afford compound 4 (GPU-028).
