Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are the predominant pregnancy complications among singleton and twin pregnancies worldwide. Our primary objective was to explore the adverse effect of GDM and HDP on maternal-perinatal outcomes compared with non-GDM and non-HDP in singleton and twin pregnancies. The secondary objective was to find the risk of adverse maternal-perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancies compared with singleton pregnancies complicated with GDM and HDP in Hubei, China.

The increasing trend in the incidence of adverse perinatal outcomes is a public health concern globally as well as in China. However, the causes of the increasing trend are not well understood. The present tertiary-hospital-based retrospective study (2011-2019) aims to determine the secular trends and age-period-cohort effect on adverse perinatal outcomes in Hubei, China.

Background: A tertiary-hospital-based retrospective study (2011-2019) was conducted to determine the mediating role of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and abnormal placentations between advanced maternal age and adverse neonatal outcomes.

Methods: Data from a tertiary-hospital-based retrospective study (n= 23051) was used and conducted regression-based mediation analysis to assess the mediating role of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and abnormal placentation between the advanced maternal age and adverse neonatal outcomes.

Results: After adjusting for confounding factors, the indirect effect of advanced maternal age on preterm births, perinatal mortality, and low birth weight mediated by hypertensive disorders of pregnancy was [aOR 4.

Background: Neonatal birth weight and length are important indicators of neonatal survival and morbidity during later life and are influenced by maternal factors and obstetrical complications. Therefore, we aimed to determine the relationship of maternal factors and obstetric complications with term singleton vs term twin neonatal outcomes in Wuhan University Renmin Hospital, Hubei, China.

Methods: A total of 10517 neonatal births were recorded in a tertiary-hospital-based retrospective study and term singleton (n=7787) and term twins (n=169) were included for data analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • COVID-19 negatively impacts the immune system and is associated with negative pregnancy outcomes, partly due to micronutrient deficiencies in pregnant women.
  • The infection can cause malabsorption of essential micronutrients, increasing the risk of deficiencies that can further impair immune function and heighten complications during pregnancy.
  • Essential micronutrients like vitamins A, C, D, E, and minerals such as iron, selenium, and zinc are crucial for maintaining immune competency and mitigating adverse pregnancy outcomes, emphasizing the need for adequate dietary or supplemental intake.

Objective: To study the efficacy and safety of thoracoscopic and laparoscopic esophagectomy for esophageal carcinoma.

Methods: Based on hospitalization data from March 2011 to March 2014, 62 cases of esophageal carcinoma treated with thoracoscopic and laparoscopic esophagectomy (minimally invasive group, with 45 male patients) and other 62 cases treated with open esophagectomy (open esophagectomy group, with 45 male patients) were analyzed in a retrospective cohort. The mean age of two groups were (62±9) years and (62±8) years, respectively.
