Background: Theta-burst transcranial magnetic stimulation has demonstrated promising effectiveness as treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. However, the effect of accelerated theta-burst stimulation (TBS) in comorbid with PTSD and depression remains unknown.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a 25-year-old woman with PTSD and depression whose symptoms markedly improved after continuous TBS of the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and intermittent TBS (iTBS) over the left DLPFC, and then with 20 min break before the 2nd iTBS session.

Electronic address:

Objective: Several types of electrical neuromodulation (such as transcranial direct current stimulation, tDCS; transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) have been applied in the treatment of fibromyalgia. These trials had different outcome measurements, such as subjective pain, pain threshold, depression, anxiety, and functioning. We intended to integrate data from different trials into a meta-analysis to clearly present the clinical value of electrical neuromodulation in fibromyalgia.

Background: Current guidelines recommend that all infected cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) should be removed. However, financial or anatomical concerns can lead to management of infection with simple debridement, as opposed to complete removal. In this observational study, we report the outcomes of our modified procedure for this real-world dilemma.

Favorable prognostic factors and therapeutic strategies are important for patients with single large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This retrospective study aimed to investigate the prognostic factors in patients with single large (≥5 cm) HCC with Child-Pugh (CP) class A patients and to recommend therapeutic strategies. Overall, 298 HCC patients with single and large (≥5 cm) tumors with CP class A, but without distant metastasis and macrovascular invasion were included, and their clinicopathological data, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) were recorded.

Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery Ligation for Ischemia-reperfusion Research: Model Improvement via Technical Modifications and Quality Control.

J Vis Exp

December 2022

MacKay Junior College of Medicine, Nursing, and Management; Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, MacKay Memorial Hospital;

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death globally. Complete cessation of blood flow in coronary arteries causes ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), resulting in cardiogenic shock and fatal arrhythmia, which are associated with high mortality. Primary coronary intervention (PCI) for recanalizing the coronary artery significantly improves the outcomes of STEMI, but advancements made in shortening the door-to-balloon time have failed to reduce in-hospital mortality, suggesting that additional therapeutic strategies are required.

Electronic address:

Background & Aims: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is known to increase the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among individuals with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). We aimed to evaluate whether metformin reduces HCC risk among individuals with DM and CHC after successful antiviral therapy.

Methods: Individuals with CHC who achieved a sustained virological response (SVR) after interferon-based therapy were enrolled in a large-scale, multicenter cohort in Taiwan (T-COACH).

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the application of sacubitril/valsartan in clinical practice and the utility of PREDICT-HF score for outcome prediction in Asian heart failure patients with difference risk profiles.

Methods: The TAROT-HF study was a multicenter, single-arm, observational study. Totally 1,187 outpatients with HFrEF treated with sacubitril/valsartan were enrolled and categorized by: (1) high-risk group with ≥1 of the following three risk factors: old age (≥80 years), low baseline systolic blood pressure (<100 mmHg), and renal impairment (eGFR <30 ml/min/1.

Aims: Sacubitril/valsartan (SAC/VAL) has been used in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) could benefit the HFrEF patients with wide QRS durations. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical impacts of SAC/VAL on reverse cardiac remodelling in CRT-eligible and CRT-ineligible HFrEF patients with different QRS durations.

Methods And Results: The TAROT-HF study was a multicentre, observational study enrolling patients who initiated SAC/VAL from 10 hospitals since 2017.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have been approved to improve outcomes and reduce recurrence. Biomarkers for patient selection are needed. In this paper, we proposed an inflammasome-based risk score (IRS) system for prognosis and prediction of ICI response for early-stage NSCLC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the prevalence and trends of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and its link to gastric cancer in Taiwan between 2019-2020.
  • Involved 1,494 participants, showing H. pylori infection at 26.6% overall, with a significant drop in prevalence from 63.8% (1990-2000) to 28.2% (2016-2020).
  • There's a corresponding decline in age-standardized incidence and mortality rates of gastric cancer, suggesting that decreasing H. pylori rates may lower cancer risks.

Article Synopsis
  • * High expression of TRPM7 correlates with poor survival rates in HNSCC patients and is linked to increased cancer invasiveness, as seen in cell line studies.
  • * Targeting TRPM7 through shRNA significantly reduces cancer cell behaviors like migration and colony formation, suggesting its role in overcoming cisplatin resistance and supporting new treatment strategies for HNSCC.
