Introduction: Peptic ulcers are caused by unbalanced acid production, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in recent decades have helped to treat peptic ulcers effectively. Meanwhile, the incidence of perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) persists and has a high mortality rate if there is no adequate management. Primary closure with a modified Graham's patch was well performed in early detected PPU with a small size < 2 cm.

Background: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and histamine-2 receptor (H2) antagonists change the gastric pH and reduce the intestinal absorption of nonheme iron. Case reports and case-control studies have demonstrated that absorption of iron is affected by gastric acidity, but the clinical importance of these drug-drug interactions has remained uncertain.
Objectives: The present case-control study employed 2 million longitudinal claims in 2011-2018 in the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database to investigate the impact of PPIs/H2 antagonists on the occurrence of iron-deficiency anaemia (IDA).

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) was found to improve the symptoms in patients with diabetic sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy (DSPN) by reducing oxidative stress and ameliorating microcirculation. Our meta-analysis is aimed at evaluating the effects of oral-administered ALA versus a placebo in patients with DSPN and determining the optimal dosage for this treatment. We systematically reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases to determine the efficacy of oral ALA for patients with DSPN.

Background: Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis are at an elevated risk of developing dementia, potentially linked to the high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in this population, which may contribute to cognitive impairment. Nevertheless, the impact of vitamin D supplementation on the risk of dementia in hemodialysis patients remains uncertain, necessitating further investigation to elucidate the potential benefits of vitamin D intervention in this vulnerable group.
Methods: In this propensity-score-matched comparative cohort study, we sought to assess the impact of vitamin D supplementation on the occurrence of dementia in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis.

Introduction: Patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy experience various physical and psychological problems and discomfort. Virtual reality (VR) can be used in technology-based non-pharmacological therapy that can serve as a potential distractor in the symptom management of patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. We propose a smartphone-based virtual reality relaxation (S-VR) technique as a complementary modality to provide comfort to patients with cancer, and we will evaluate its effect on patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy.

Due to the rising incidence of social risk incidents, the Mental Health Act was amended to provide community treatment and community support for patients with mental illness. Community mental health centers have added a public sector function to follow-up with the care of mentally ill patients using case management as an integrated service model. Under this amendment, the unique role and task of community psychiatric mental healthcare should be framed and developed.

Background And Aims: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome and poses a significant threat to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic dysregulation. Statins exert anti-inflammatory, antioxidative and antithrombotic effects that target mechanisms underlying NAFLD. However, the protective effects of the different doses, intensities and types of statins on the incidence of NAFLD-related decompensated liver cirrhosis (DLC) in patients with T2DM remain unclear.

Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) are commonly recommended for effectively removing organic and inorganic components in the smear layer. This layer is found on root canal walls after root canal instrumentation. However, high-concentration EDTA reduces the strength of dentin and the dissolution efficacy of organic substances in NaOCl solution.
