Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on creating a new titanium hybrid suture anchor (HSA) with a wing structure designed to improve holding power in osteoporotic bone.
  • The anchor features a screw-type design with micro and macro threads, allowing the wings to be opened for better stability and was tested against a commercial solid anchor (CSA).
  • Results showed that the HSA outperformed the CSA in terms of failure strength under various loads, while both anchors had similar rates of new bone growth, demonstrating the HSA's effectiveness for use in osteoporotic conditions.

The care needs of postpartum women taking their first time of doing the month: a qualitative study.

Contemp Nurse

October 2017

d School of Nursing , National Quemoy University, No.1, Dasyue Rd., Jinning Township , Kinmen County 89250 , Taiwan (ROC).

Background: In contemporary Taiwan, after giving birth, many women undertake a traditional postpartum practice called 'doing the month', which occurs in the medical context of postpartum nursing centres instead of at home. Thus, healthcare workers must identify and address the care needs of new mothers in this setting to improve the care of new mothers and their baby and family.

Aim: To explore new mothers' care needs from their own perspectives during the period of doing the month.

Chondral or osteochondral defects are still controversial problems in orthopedics. Here, chondrocytes labeled with magnetic nanoparticles were cultivated on a biphasic, type II collagen-chitosan/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) scaffold in an attempt to develop cultures with trackable cells exhibiting growth, differentiation, and regeneration. Rabbit chondrocytes were labeled with magnetic nanoparticles and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron (TEM) microscopy, and gene and protein expression analyses.

Objectives: To investigate the suppressors of cytokine signalling (SOCS1 and SOCS3) expression in peripheral blood cells in ankylosing spondylitis (AS), and their associations with clinical and laboratory manifestations.

Methods: The levels of SOCS1 and SOCS3 mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), T cells and monocytes were measured by RT-PCR in 53 AS patients and 31 healthy controls. Patient's serum IL-6, IL-10 and IL-17A levels were determined by ELISA.

Background: Most preceptor training programs consist of classroom-based courses, and only a few programs are conducted using films. Preceptors have identified most training courses as inapplicable in various clinical situations.

Objectives: To describe the systematic development of a situational initiation training program (SITP) for preceptors and to evaluate its impacts on the stress levels of preceptors and new graduate nurses (NGNs), the preceptor-NGN relationship, support provided by preceptors to NGNs, and the intention to leave among NGNs during a 1-year preceptorship.

Objective: Treatment of early stage avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVNFH) is still challenging for clinicians today. Core decompression with the implantation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has become popular and been proven to be an effective therapy for ANNFH. Synovial fluid MSCs, which can be easily harvested by joint aspiration, reportedly have the potential to differentiate into bone and cartilage.

Acute anterior uveitis (AAU) is the most frequently extra-articular manifestation of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). To investigate whether AAU has an association with disease activity, functional ability and physical mobility in AS patients, 146 Chinese AS patients in Taiwan were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. These patients fulfilled the 1984 modified New York criteria and visited the Outpatient Department of the Veterans General Hospital-Taipei from April 2004 to July 2005.
