Background: Previous phase III study has demonstrated that osimertinib, a third-generation epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (TKI), exhibits superior antitumor effects compared to first-generation EGFR-TKIs and successfully prolonged overall survival (OS) in patients with -mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although first- and second-generation EGFR-TKIs are risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE), whether osimertinib increases the VTE risk remains unclear. In addition, no treatment strategy exists for patients with VTE during osimertinib.

Purpose: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has changed the surgical approach to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) dramatically. The current study compares the outcomes of older and younger patients who underwent VATS lobectomy for NSCLC.
Methods: In total, 424 eligible patients with pathological stage I NSCLC underwent VATS lobectomy between 2007 and 2017.

Background: Recent improvements in systemic chemotherapy have provided an opportunity for patients with stage IV gastric cancer (GC) to undergo conversion surgery (CS). The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent CS and to elucidate the prognostic factors for CS in stage IV GC.
Methods: A total of 79 patients who underwent CS with the aim of R0 resection for stage IV GC at six institutions from January 2008 to July 2019 were enrolled.

Background: The clinical value of residual quantitative flow ratio (rQFR), a novel function of QFR technique, is unknown.
Aim: We investigated the clinical value of rQFR, aimed to predict residual ischemia after virtual percutaneous coronary intervention (vPCI).
Methods: This is a substudy of the COE-PERSPECTIVE registry, which investigated the prognostic value of post-PCI fractional flow reserve (FFR).

Background: Fractional flow reserve (FFR) has become the gold standard for diagnosing ischemia in angiographically intermediate epicardial coronary artery stenosis. This study investigated the clinical outcomes and predictors of revascularization deferral based on FFR.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we assessed 474 lesions (440 patients) where revascularization was deferred based on the FFR value.
Background: Inappropriate shocks delivered by subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (S-ICDs) are most frequently caused by cardiac oversensing. However, the predictors for oversensing of S-ICD remain unclear.
Objective: We aimed to investigate the predictors for oversensing of S-ICD, especially clinical impact of an electrocardiographic (ECG) change.

Non-islet cell tumor hypoglycemia (NICTH) is a paraneoplastic syndrome that causes severe hypoglycemia. The tumor involved produces high-molecular-weight insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II). NICTH can be caused by various benign and malignant tumors.

Due to the developments in the treatment for hepatitis, it is possible to prevent the progression of liver fibrosis and improve patients' prognosis even if it has already led to liver cirrhosis (LC). Consequently, a two-step study was conducted. To begin with, a retrospective study was conducted to identify the potential predictors of non-malignancy-related mortality from LC.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the utility of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening by conducting an all-case survey of newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients at Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
Patients And Methods: Depending on whether patients were subjected to screening, information was prospectively collected on all prostate cancer patients newly diagnosed between October 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020, at all institutions in Niigata Prefecture where urologists performing prostate biopsy routinely work and differences in clinical parameters were investigated.
Results: PSA was measured in 478 out of 1332 patients (35.

The flexor carpi radialis brevis (FCRB) muscle, considered a rare anomaly, is not well known among orthopedic surgeons. The indications for volar locking plates to treat distal radius fractures have recently expanded, and, as a result, encounters with the FCRB are becoming more common. However, few studies have described how to retract an FCRB.

BACKGROUND Pfeiffer syndrome (PS) is a fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR)-associated craniosynostosis syndrome, characterized by abnormally broad and medially deviated thumbs and great toes. Tracheal cartilage sleeve (TCS) is associated with several FGFR-associated craniosynostosis syndromes, including PS. TCS is an airway malformation in which the tracheal cartilage rings fuse with each other to form a sleeve of cartilage.

BACKGROUND Primary aortic sarcoma often poses diagnostic challenges for pathologists and clinicians because of a very low incidence and controversy over nomenclature and definition. We report a case of aortic angiosarcoma in association with a graft. We also conducted a clinicopathological review of cases of primary aortic sarcomas associated with implanted grafts.

Background: There is great degree of interobserver variability in the visual angiographic assessment of left main coronary disease (LMCD). Fractional flow reserve and intravascular ultrasound are often used in this setting. The use of instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) for evaluation of LMCD has not been well studied.

Background: Ruptured aneurysms associated with a partial vertebrobasilar duplication or a persistent primitive hypoglossal artery (PPHA) have been reported. Only rarely has endovascular treatment of ruptured aneurysms in association with both vascular variations been reported.
Observations: A 66-year-old woman experienced the sudden onset of a severe headache caused by a subarachnoid hemorrhage.
From 1985 to 2016, the prevalence of underweight decreased, and that of obesity and severe obesity increased, in most regions, with significant variation in the magnitude of these changes across regions. We investigated how much change in mean body mass index (BMI) explains changes in the prevalence of underweight, obesity, and severe obesity in different regions using data from 2896 population-based studies with 187 million participants. Changes in the prevalence of underweight and total obesity, and to a lesser extent severe obesity, are largely driven by shifts in the distribution of BMI, with smaller contributions from changes in the shape of the distribution.

Near-infrared spectroscopy with intravascular ultrasound (NIRS)-IVUS enables precise detection of lipid core burden. Intracoronary electrocardiography (ECG) can detect slight ischemia during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), indicating microvascular dysfunction (MD) by distal embolization, etc. Thus, this study aimed to investigate whether plaques with a low max-lipid core burden index (LCBI) at 4 mm (LCBI4mm) influence MD, using intracoronary ECG.

Avulsion fractures of the calcaneal tuberosity, although relatively uncommon, occur more frequently in patients with osteoporosis and in the elderly. The results of closed manipulation are poor in these fractures, usually requiring open reduction and internal fixation. However, it is difficult to fix the bone fragment rigidly, because the avulsed bone fragment is small and thin, and the bone quality of the calcaneal body in the elderly is poor.

Background And Purpose: Metal artifacts limit computational fluid dynamics analysis after coil embolization. Silent magnetic resonance angiography reduces metal artifacts and improves visualization of the residual cavity of coil-embolized aneurysms. This study investigated the flow dynamics of the residual cavity after coil embolization using silent magnetic resonance angiography and computational fluid dynamics to elucidate the hemodynamic characteristics of recanalization.

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is associated with cardiovascular death, including sudden cardiac death due to arrhythmias. Patients with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) are also at high risk of developing a clinically significant ventricular arrhythmia. It has been reported that sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors can reduce cardiovascular deaths; however, the physiological mechanisms of this remain unclear.
