Background: Muscle mass and phase angle (PhA) can be measured using multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Osteoarthritis of the hip (OAhip) causes decreased muscle mass and PhA in the deformed lower limb. However, previous studies have not accounted for the influence of sex, and thus, the relationship between muscle mass, PhA, and motor function remains unclear.

Autosomal-dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease caused by UMOD (encoding uromodulin) mutation (ADTKD-UMOD) is a rare hereditary disease. A strong family history of hyperuricemia or gout and inherited kidney disease raises the suspicion of ADTKD-UMOD. Genetic testing can confirm the diagnosis without a kidney biopsy.

The exact relationship between solid papillary carcinoma (SPC) and invasive breast carcinoma of no special type (IBC-NST) with neuroendocrine differentiation and SPC and mucinous carcinoma (MC) of the breast remains unclear. To clarify the relationship, we conducted a comparative study of morphological and neuroendocrine features between ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS, 72 cases) and SPC in situ (35 cases), and IBC-NST (103 cases) and invasive SPC (92 cases). We also conducted the study between MC associated with and without SPC.

This retrospective cross-sectional study investigated the cutoff values (COVs) for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) using a three-dimensional (3D) pelvic model reconstructed using computed tomography (CT). We included 107 healthy Japanese participants and 73 patients who had undergone curved periacetabular osteotomy (CPO) for DDH between 2012 and 2017. The hip CT images were adjusted to the anterior pelvic plane (APP), functional pelvic plane (FPP), sagittal anterior center-edge angle (ACEA), and sagittal posterior center-edge angle (PCEA).

Despite guideline-based recommendation of the interchangeable use of instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) to guide revascularization decision-making, iFR/FFR could demonstrate different physiological or clinical outcomes in some specific patient or lesion subsets. Therefore, we sought to investigate the impact of difference between iFR and FFR-guided revascularization decision-making on clinical outcomes in patients with left main disease (LMD). In this international multicenter registry of LMD with physiological interrogation, we identified 275 patients in whom physiological assessment was performed with both iFR/FFR.

Background: Dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA) is a severe complication in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients undergoing long-term dialysis treatment, characterized by the deposition of β-microglobulin-related amyloids (Aβ2M amyloid). To inhibit DRA progression, hexadecyl-immobilized cellulose bead (HICB) columns are employed to adsorb circulating β-microglobulin (β2M). However, it is possible that the HICB also adsorbs other molecules involved in amyloidogenesis.

Introduction: Vitamin D deficiency causes osteoporosis, bone mineralization disorders, and osteomalacia. Osteomalacia is diagnosed using blood biochemical tests, clinical symptoms, and imaging; however, accurate detection of mineralization disorders requires tissue observation. We investigated the prevalence of bone mineralization disorders and their relationship with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels in patients with untreated osteoporosis with femoral neck fractures.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)is prescribed for resectable esophagogastric junctional cancer on the basis of esophageal invasion length, lymph node metastasis, and pathological diagnosis. Due to a lack of consensus in Japan, however, discussion regarding its use is necessary. This study comprised 6 patients who underwent surgical resection after receiving NAC in our department from 2018 to 2022.

Although diuretics play an important role in triple-whammy acute kidney injury (AKI), it is unclear whether the type of diuretic influences the risk of triple-whammy AKI. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether vasopressin receptor antagonists affect triple-whammy AKI. This cross-sectional study used disproportionality analysis of VigiBase data to assess the risk of AKI with various diuretics.

Background: The majority of randomized controlled trials of revascularization decision-making excludes left main coronary artery disease (LMD). Therefore, contemporary clinical outcomes of patients with stable coronary artery disease and LMD with proven ischemia remain poorly understood. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term clinical outcomes of physiologically significant LMD according to the treatment strategies of revascularization versus revascularization deferral.

Background: The post-dialysis plasma level of human atrial natriuretic peptide (hANP) reflects the fluid volume in patients on hemodialysis. The threshold hANP level is reportedly 100 pg/mL; however, the clinical usefulness of the threshold hANP level for volume control has not been sufficiently studied.
Methods: We conducted a single-center, retrospective, observational study that included 156 hemodialysis patients without atrial fibrillation.
