Chitosan, a commonly used dietary supplement, is believed to have the potential to decrease body weight by binding to dietary fats and decreasing their absorption. However, due to conflicting results from various studies, this review aimed to investigate the effects of chitosan supplementation on obesity indicators in adults. To find appropriate randomized clinical trials (RCTs), a thorough search was conducted across electronic databases like PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science.

Background And Aims: Overexpression of MexXY-OprM efflux pump causes resistance to aminoglycosides in . We aimed to investigate the relationship between resistance to aminoglycosides and the MexXY-OprM expression level in clinical isolates without and after treatment with curcumin and/or phenylalanine-arginine-beta-naphthylamide (PAβN) as the efflux pump inhibitors.
Methods: We collected 100 clinical isolates from hospitalized patients.
Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing chronic hemodialysis are at an increased risk of developing spondylodiscitis, an infectious condition affecting the vertebral column. In this case report, we present a 22-year-old male with ESRD, a history of hyperoxaluria, nephrolithiasis, and anemia, who developed spondylodiscitis. Notably, pathological examination of tissue samples obtained during surgical intervention revealed the presence of polarized calcium oxalate crystals within the lumbar laminae and spinal discs, a rare finding in this clinical context.

Background And Aims: Oncogenic viruses are responsible for approximately 12% of human malignancies, influencing various cancer processes through intricate interactions with host cells. Exosomes (EXOs), nanometric-sized microvesicles involved in cell communication, have emerged as critical mediators in these interactions. This review aims to explore the mechanisms by which EXOs produced by cells infected with oncogenic viruses promote cancer growth, enhance viral transmissibility, and act as immunomodulators.

Background And Aims: Patients find it difficult, during the pandemic, to receive appropriate nutrition services because of the limited access to health services. This study assessed the effectiveness of a tele-consulting nutrition intervention on the nutrition adherence of patients with diabetes and hypertension.
Methods: A tele-medical nutrition therapy (MNT) intervention was conducted as a one-group before-after trial.
Background And Aims: This investigation aims to conduct a comprehensive review of educational interventions targeting stroke prevention to provide effective preventive measures and optimize resource utilization in adults and the elderly populations.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted on PubMed, SCOPUS, and Embase for articles published online or in print until February 22, 2022. Inclusion criteria for studies were limited to the studies that examined stroke education or training interventions aimed at improving knowledge among adults aged 30 years and above, with a particular focus on older adults.
Irisin, a novel adipomyokine, has been proposed to be a therapeutic agent against obesity-related metabolic disease. Royal Jelly (RJ) and tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) are suggested to promote obesity and its related problems through potential mutual mechanistic pathways. This investigation intended to evaluate the glycemic and inflammation-promoting effects of RJ, TRF, and their combinations to evaluate their synergic effects through irisin action in obese rats induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) that underwent a calorie restriction diet (CRD).

Synthetic food antioxidants such as tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), and propyl gallate (PG) have been extensively utilized in different food industries because of their high protectant activities to stop food spoilage and remove foodborne diseases in humans and animals. It would be emphasized that increasing the intake of antioxidants through intracellular may lead to cyto/genotoxicity, and their complex formation with biological molecules eventually accelerate the progress of various diseases like multiple sclerosis, diabetes, neurological disorders, cardiac vascular disease, cancer, etc. Therefore, their toxicity is one of the challenging subjects due to their extensive use in food-related industries.

In this work, Zn-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate metal-organic framework was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal process and used in dispersive micro solid phase extraction of some pesticide from various fruit juice and water samples. Seven widely consumed pesticides in agriculture (chlorpyrifos, haloxyfop--methyl, oxadiazon, diniconazole, clodinafop-propargyl, fenpropathrin, and fenaxoprop--ethyl) were selected as target analytes. In this work, dispersive micro solid phase extraction was followed by a liquid phase microextraction method to achieve more enrichment of the analytes, and the enriched analytes were quantified using a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector.
