Different types of digital modalities are currently available for frozen section (FS) evaluation in surgical pathology practice. However, there are limited studies that demonstrate the potential of whole slide imaging (WSI) as a robust digital pathology option for FS FS diagnosis. In the current study, we compared the diagnostic accuracy achieved with WSI to that achieved with Light Microscopy (LM) for evaluating FSs of axillary sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) and clipped lymph nodes (LNs) from breast cancer patients using two modalities.

Humans exhibit distinct characteristics compared to our primate and ancient hominin ancestors. To investigate genomic bursts in the evolution of these traits, we use two complementary approaches to examine enrichment among genome-wide association study loci spanning diseases and AI-based image-derived brain, heart, and skeletal tissue phenotypes with genomic regions reflecting four evolutionary divergence points. These regions cover epigenetic differences among humans and rhesus macaques, human accelerated regions (HARs), ancient selective sweeps, and Neanderthal-introgressed alleles.

The 3-methylglutaconic aciduria (3-MGA-uria) syndromes comprise a heterogeneous group of inborn errors of metabolism defined biochemically by detectable elevation of 3-methylglutaconic acid (3-MGA) in the urine. In type 1 (or primary) 3-MGA-uria, distal defects in the leucine catabolism pathway directly cause this elevation. Secondary 3-MGA-uria syndromes, however, are unrelated to leucine metabolism-specific defects but share a common biochemical phenotype of elevated 3-MGA.

Parental permissiveness of drinking is a reliable predictor of college drinking, but there is little known about factors that predict such permissiveness. Developing advanced heterogeneous catalysts through structural modifications effectively enhances the catalytic activity of non-homogeneous catalysts for removing emerging micropollutants (EMPs). In this study, MoTiCT@Co with Mo vacancies was synthesized using the Lewis molten salt method, which efficiently activates peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and continuously degrades EMPs in water. The abundant Mo vacancy structure in the material acts as an anchoring site for Co nanoparticles and a co-catalytic site for Fenton-like reactions, enabling PMS adsorption and activation.

Itaconate is a small-molecule metabolite generated by the enzyme aconitate decarboxylase 1 (ACOD1), which is upregulated during inflammation. Traditionally, itaconate has been recognized for its anti-inflammatory properties; however, this study reveals a pro-inflammatory mechanism of itaconate in macrophages. We demonstrate that itaconate promotes the proteasomal degradation of glyoxalase 1 (GLO1) via Cys139.

Importance: There are limited data to guide practices to reduce surgical site infections following sacral neuromodulation; however, many surgeons prescribe prophylactic postoperative antibiotics after device implantation.
Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the proportion of patients with sacral neuromodulation device-associated surgical site infections after use of prophylactic postoperative antibiotics versus none.
Study Design: This was a multicenter retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing sacral neuromodulation device implantation at 11 institutions from January 2014 to December 2023, comparing outcomes in patients who did versus did not receive prophylactic postoperative antibiotic treatment.
