Despite substantial evidence emphasizing the pleiotropic benefits of exercise for the prevention and treatment of various diseases, the underlying biological mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Several exercise benefits have been attributed to signaling molecules that are released in response to exercise by different tissues such as skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, adipose, and liver tissue. These signaling molecules, which are collectively termed exerkines, form a heterogenous group of bioactive substances, mediating inter-organ crosstalk as well as structural and functional tissue adaption.

We report on time-resolved nonlinear terahertz spectroscopy of a strongly correlated ruthenate, CaRuO_{3}, as a function of temperature, frequency, and terahertz field strength. Third-harmonic radiation for frequencies up to 2.1 THz is observed evidently at low temperatures below 80 K, where the low-frequency linear dynamical response deviates from the Drude model and a coherent heavy quasiparticle band emerges by strong correlations associated with the Hund's coupling.

Machining nickel-based super alloys such as Inconel 718 generates a high thermal load induced via friction and plastic deformation, causing these alloys to be among most difficult-to-cut materials. Localized heat generation occurring in machining induces high temperature gradients. Experimental techniques for determining cutting tool temperature are challenging due to the small dimensions of the heat source and the chips produced, making it difficult to observe the tool-chip interface.

This study employs ab initio calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the structural properties, H-NMR spectra, and vibrational spectra of methane sulfonic acid (MSA) at low degree of hydration. The findings reveal that energetically stable structures are formed by small clusters consisting of one or two MSA molecules (m = 1 and 2) and one or two water molecules in (MSA)·(HO) (m = 1-2 and n = 1-5).These stable structures arise from the formation of strong cyclic hydrogen bonds between the proton of the hydroxyl (OH) group in MSA and the water molecules.

The physical stability of amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) is a major topic in the formulation research of oral dosage forms. To minimize the effort of investigating the long-term stability using cost- and time-consuming experiments, we developed a thermodynamic and kinetic modeling framework to predict and understand the crystallization kinetics of ASDs during long-term storage below the glass transition. Since crystallization of the active phrarmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in ASDs largely depends on the amount of water absorbed by the ASDs, water-sorption kinetics and API-crystallization kinetics were considered simultaneously.

Purpose: Accelerometers are used to objectively measure physical activity; however, the relationship between accelerometer-based activity parameters and bone health is not well understood. This study examines the association between accelerometer-estimated daily activity impact intensities and future risk estimates of major osteoporotic fractures in a large population-based cohort.
Methods: Participants were 3165 adults 46 years of age from the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 who agreed to wear a hip-worn accelerometer during all waking hours for 14 consecutive days.

Bayesian model comparison (BMC) offers a principled approach to assessing the relative merits of competing computational models and propagating uncertainty into model selection decisions. However, BMC is often intractable for the popular class of hierarchical models due to their high-dimensional nested parameter structure. Gut microbes shape many aspects of organismal biology, yet how these key bacteria transmit among hosts in natural populations remains poorly understood. Recent work in mammals has emphasized either transmission through social contacts or indirect transmission through environmental contact, but the relative importance of different routes has not been directly assessed. The central theme of cavity quantum electrodynamics is the coupling of a single optical mode with a single matter excitation, leading to a doublet of cavity polaritons which govern the optical properties of the coupled structure. Especially in the ultrastrong coupling regime, where the ratio of the vacuum Rabi frequency and the quasi-resonant carrier frequency of light, Ω/ , approaches unity, the polariton doublet bridges a large spectral bandwidth 2Ω, and further interactions with off-resonant light and matter modes may occur. The resulting multi-mode coupling has recently attracted attention owing to the additional degrees of freedom for designing light-matter coupled resonances, despite added complexity.

Targeting RNA-binding and modifying proteins via small molecules to modulate post-transcriptional modifications have emerged as a new frontier for chemical biology and therapeutic research. One such RNA-binding protein that regulates the most prevalent eukaryotic RNA modification, -methyladenosine (mA), is the methyltransferase-like protein 16 (METTL16), which plays an oncogenic role in cancers by cofunctioning with other nucleic acid-binding proteins. To date, no potent small-molecule inhibitor of METTL16 or modulator interfering with the METTL16-RNA interaction has been reported and validated, highlighting the unmet need to develop such small molecules to investigate the METTL16-involved regulatory network.
