Cement-based 3D printing provides an opportunity to create cement-based elements with a hierarchy of structures and patterns that are not easily achievable using traditional casting techniques, thereby providing new possibilities for improving thermal control and energy storage in cement-based materials. In this study, the influence of internal architecture and ink formulation on the thermal behavior of 3D-printed cement composite beams was investigated using infrared thermal imaging and a conceptual one-dimensional heat transfer model based on cooling fins in convective media. Three-dimensional printed beams with rectilinear, three-dimensional honeycomb, and Archimedean chord infill patterns and cement ink formulations with and without 5% halloysite nanoclay were exposed to a heating source at one end.

Background: Cellulose, an abundant biopolymer, has great potential to be utilized as a renewable fuel feedstock through its enzymatic degradation into soluble sugars followed by sugar fermentation into liquid biofuels. However, crystalline cellulose is highly resistant to hydrolysis, thus industrial-scale production of cellulosic biofuels has been cost-prohibitive to date. Mechanistic studies of enzymes that break down cellulose, called cellulases, are necessary to improve and adapt such biocatalysts for implementation in biofuel production processes.

Pleiotropy increases with gene age in six model multicellular eukaryotes.

Background: Children often present to primary and specialty care clinics with multiple somatic symptoms of nonspecific origin that can be highly distressing and prompt significant health service use. We evaluated the psychometric properties of the eight-item Children's Somatic Symptoms Inventory (CSSI-8) as a brief measure of somatic distress that could be easily integrated into clinical systems.

Background: Enhancing venous return during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can lead to better hemodynamics and improved outcome after cardiac arrest (CA). Peripheral Intravenous Analysis (PIVA) provides feedback on venous flow changes and may indicate an increase in venous return and cardiac output during CPR. We hypothesize PIVA can serve as an early indicator of increased venous return, preceding end-tidal CO (etCO) increase, before the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in a rat model of CA and CPR.
