Metal-organic frameworks derived nanostructures with extraordinary variability, and many unprecedented properties have recently emerged as promising catalytic materials to address the challenges in the field of modern organic synthesis. In this contribution, the present work reports the fabrication of an intricately designed magnetic MOF composite based on Mn-BDC (manganese benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate/manganese terephthalate) microflakes via a facile and benign in situ solvothermal approach. Structural information about the as-synthesized hybrid composite has been obtained with characterization techniques such as TEM, SEM, XRD, FT-IR, AAS, EDX, ED-XRF, and VSM analysis.

As a result the worldwide demand for colorants of natural origin is rapidly increasing in the food, cosmetic and textile sectors. Natural colorants have the capacity to be used for a variety of industrial applications, for instance, as dyes for textile and non-textile substrates such as leather, paper, within paints and coatings, in cosmetics, and in food additives.

Plant genetic transformation is an important technological advancement in modern science, which has not only facilitated gaining fundamental insights into plant biology but also started a new era in crop improvement and commercial farming. However, for many crop plants, efficient transformation and regeneration still remain a challenge even after more than 30 years of technical developments in this field. Recently, FokI endonuclease-based genome editing applications in plants offered an exciting avenue for augmenting crop productivity but it is mainly dependent on efficient genetic transformation and regeneration, which is a major roadblock for implementing genome editing technology in plants.

Abscisic acid (ABA) is a ubiquitous phytohormone, plays important roles in several physiological processes, including stress adaptation, flowering, seed germination, fruit ripening, and leaf senescence etc. ABA binds with START domain proteins called Pyrabactin Resistance1 (PYR1)/PYR1-like (PYL)/Regulatory Components of ABA Receptors (RCARs) and controls the activity of PP2C phosphatase proteins and in turn the ABA-dependent signaling pathway. Fourteen ABA receptors have been identified in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and have shown to be involved in various biological functions.

Biochar, a carbonaceous porous material produced from the pyrolysis of agricultural residues and solid wastes has been widely used as a soil amendment. Recent publications on biochar are primarily focussed with its application in climatic aspects, contaminant immobilization, soil amendment strategies, nutrient recovery, engineered material production and waste-water treatment. Numerous studies have reported the positive attribute of biochar's nutrient value that helps in improving plant growth and fertilizer use efficiency.

The study describes a novel and environment friendly route of biosynthesis of nanohydroxyapatite (nHAP). Bacillus licheniformis mediated synthesis of nHAP has been carried out with different phosphate concentrations (2%, 5%, 10% and 20% w/v) of potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate monobasic (KHPO). The synthesis is supported by a two-step mechanism - (i) solubilization of P by organic acids extracellularly secreted by the bacterial strain and (ii) gelation of P and Ca.

Precise physiological and molecular marker-based assessment provides information about the extent of genetic diversity, which helps for effective breeding programmes. We have conducted detailed physiological and molecular marker-based assessment of selected eight indigenous rice landraces from Koraput, India along with tolerant (N22) and susceptible (IR64) check varieties under control and simulated drought stress using polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000. After exposure to different levels of drought stress, relative germination performance (RGP), seedling vigour index (SVI) and relative growth index (RGI) were significantly declined in all the rice landraces compared to the control plants and significant varietal differences were observed.

Objectives: Aspergillus flavus isolate TERIBR1 was isolated from tannery sludge highly contaminated with chromium. During characterization process, it exhibited capability to adapt and grow in fungal growth media amended with chromium concentration as high as 250 mg/l. In order to understand the genetic underpinnings of the chromium tolerance trait, whole genome sequencing of the TERIBR1 genome was carried out.

As a new approach to addressing AMR, we report here the green synthesis of vanillin capped gold nanoparticles (VAuNPs) using the popular flavouring molecule vanillin (CHO) as a reducing and capping agent. Physicochemical characterization revealed that the synthesised VAuNPs were stable and crystalline in nature.

Detailed information on structural changes that occur during ontogenesis of Rhizophagus irregularis in axenically developed coculture is limited. Our study aims to investigate the series of events that occur during mycorrhizal ontogenesis under axenic condition through basic and advanced microscopic techniques followed by comparison among these to identify the suitable technique for rapid and detailed analysis of mycorrhizal structures. Three stages were identified in mycorrhizal ontogenesis from initiation (preinfection stage of hyphae; its branching, infection and appressoria formation; epidermal opening; and hyphal entry), progression (arbuscular development; hyphal coils and vesicles) to maturity (extraradical spores).

Two series of benzoflavone derivatives were rationally designed, synthesized and evaluated for their xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory potential. Among both series, eight compounds (, , , , , , , and ) were found to exert significant XO inhibition with IC values lower than 10 μM. Enzyme kinetic studies revealed that the most potent benzoflavone derivatives ( and ) are mixed type inhibitors of the XO enzyme.
