Introduction: Various techniques have been developed for the rapid control of bleeding as a potential surgical complication. Research shows that the Surgicel has a significant effect on reducing bleeding in most surgeries; however, in our experimental observations on patients undergoing open prostatectomy, not only no significant reduction was seen in the amount of bleeding, but in some cases, Surgicel led to infection. Therefore, in this study, the effect of the Surgicel on infection and bleeding in open prostatectomy was investigated.

Active immunotherapy against pathogenic Cis pT231-tau suppresses neurodegeneration in traumatic brain injury mouse models.

Neuropeptides

December 2022

Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Cell Science Research Center, Royan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology, ACECR, Tehran, Iran. Electronic address:

Traumatic brain injury (TBI), characterized by acute neurological impairment, is associated with a higher incidence of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and Parkinson's disease (PD), whose hallmarks include hyperphosphorylated tau protein. Recently, phosphorylated tau at Thr231 has been shown to exist in two distinct cis and trans conformations. Moreover, targeted elimination of cis P-tau by passive immunotherapy with an appropriate mAb that efficiently suppresses tau-mediated neurodegeneration in severe TBI mouse models has proven to be a useful tool to characterize the neurotoxic role of cis P-tau as an early driver of the tauopathy process after TBI.

Introduction: Considering that the use of aromatase inhibitors in the treatment of infertile men is a new approach and obesity in men is one of the factors affecting infertility, we decided to compare the effect of combined therapy of Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and Letrozole and either of the two methods alone on the spermogram parameters in obese men with idiopathic infertility.

Materials And Methods: This clinical trial study was performed with the participation of 15 infertile and obese men from 2018 to 2019 in Tabriz (infertility clinics); Patients were randomly divided into three groups; The first group received treatment with Letrozole 2.5 mg daily alone, the second group received treatment with HCG ampoules at a dose of 5000 units twice a week, and the third group received combination therapy with HCG ampoules at a dose of 5000 units twice a week and letrozole tablets at a dose of 2.

Diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 by standard screening measures can reduce the chance of COVID-19 spread before the symptoms become severe. Detecting viral RNA and antigens, anti-viral antibodies, and CT-scan are the most routine diagnostic methods. Accordingly, several diagnostic platforms including thermal and isothermal amplifications, CRISPR/Cas‑based approaches, digital PCR, ELISA, NGS, and point-of-care testing methods with variable sensitivities, have been developed that may facilitate managing and preventing the further spread of the infection.

September 2019

Drug Applied Research Center, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran; Department of Medical Nanotechnology, Faculty of Advanced Medical Science, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran. Electronic address:

Based on Akt1 and Jak1 key roles in apoptosis and proliferation of many cancers, the aim of this study was to find a new gene therapy strategy by silencing of these main anti-apoptotic genes for HNSCC treatment. Cancerous HN5 and normal HUVEC cell lines were treated with Akt1 and Jak1 siRNAs alone or with each other combined with/without cisplatin. The MTS, flow cytometry, 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole staining, real-time PCR and ELISA methods were utilized in this study.

Chitin and Chitosan: Production and Application of Versatile Biomedical Nanomaterials.

Int J Adv Res (Indore)

March 2016

Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Department of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Chitin is the most abundant aminopolysaccharide polymer occurring in nature, and is the building material that gives strength to the exoskeletons of crustaceans, insects, and the cell walls of fungi. Through enzymatic or chemical deacetylation, chitin can be converted to its most well-known derivative, chitosan. The main natural sources of chitin are shrimp and crab shells, which are an abundant byproduct of the food-processing industry, that provides large quantities of this biopolymer to be used in biomedical applications.

Objectives: Although strong evidence supports the antioxidant potential of flavonoids in vitro, the effect of flavonoids at physiological concentrations on the overall antioxidant status in humans is inconsistent. The aim of this study was to examine cross-sectional associations between total flavonoid consumption, serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in apparently healthy women.

Methods: Through a multistage cluster sampling, 170 women ages 20 to 48 y were recruited.

December 2011

Plastic Surgery Department, Tabriz Medical University, Sina Hospital, Azadi Street, Tabriz, Iran.

Appropriate soft tissue coverage is of paramount importance for coverage of bone, joint, tendons, neurovascular structures, and hardware in upper extremity. In this article we have tried to renew the importance and simplicity of using the local fasciocutaneus flaps for coverage of shoulder, elbow and hand joints with showing the techniques in three examples. During a 5 year period, from 2004 to 2009, we have been treating soft tissue defects of the upper extremity over joints and hardware with local fasciocutaneous flaps.

Pediatric Nephrology Department, Tabriz Medical University, Tabriz Children Hospital, Tabriz, Iran.

To determine the growth quality in children, less than 5 years of age, affected with urinary tract infection (UTI) and to compare the indices between patients with and without vesico-ureteral reflux (VUR) based on their reflux severity and/or laterality, we studied 106 children less than 5 years of age with UTI at Imam Reza Hospital of Kermanshah, Iran, and divided the study group into four subgroups based on their cystouretrography results as follows: Group 0: without reflux (as control group); Group 1: mild VUR; Group 2: moderate VUR; and Group 3: severe VUR. In all the subgroups, weight height index (WHI) was lower than 100% and was 96%, 93%, 95%, and 98%, respectively. We found no correlation between reflux severity and WHI in all the subgroups.
