Comparison of the safety and efficacy of fixed-dose combination of arterolane maleate and piperaquine phosphate with chloroquine in acute, uncomplicated Plasmodium vivax malaria: a phase III, multicentric, open-label study.

Background: Chloroquine has been the treatment of choice for acute vivax malaria for more than 60 years. Malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax has recently shown resistance to chloroquine in some places. This study compared the efficacy and safety of fixed dose combination (FDC) of arterolane maleate and piperaquine phosphate (PQP) with chloroquine in the treatment of uncomplicated vivax malaria.

A case report of rod migration into cerebellum through foramen magnum after lateral mass fixation of cervical spine.

We report on a rare case of connecting rod migration into the posterior cranial fossa after posterior cervical decompression and lateral mass screw fixation. A 55-year-old male patient who was operated on for ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament complained of sudden-onset giddiness followed by loss of consciousness one and half year following surgery. CT scan showed migration of left-sided connecting rod into the right cerebellum through foramen magnum.

Total colectomy in a gangrenous large bowel due to a rare double closed loop obstruction.

Introduction: Closed loop obstruction is commonly encountered in sigmoid volvulus. When such obstruction becomes fulminant, it is called acute necrotizing colitis. Gangrene of the entire large bowel from the caecum till the distal end of the sigmoid is a rare entity.

Chronic Liver Diseases in Children: Clinical Profile and Histology.

Aim: The main aim of the study is to study the clinical profile of disorders of the liver and hepatobiliary system in paediatric patients and to correlate the histopathology findings of liver biopsy in chronic liver disease. Another aim being to assess the prognosis and to know the outcome and the effects of treatment in chronic liver diseases in paediatric age group.

Incidental Diagnosis of an Asymptomatic Hydatid Cyst Through Low-Grade 18F-FDG Uptake in the Peripheral Rim.

Here we present a case of an untreated, asymptomatic, pulmonary hydatid cyst incidentally diagnosed on the basis of atypically low-grade (18)F-FDG uptake in the peripheral rim and a minimal increase in uptake on dual-point (18)F-FDG PET/CT. The patient underwent (18)F-FDG PET/CT for characterization of a solitary lung lesion found on chest radiography and inconclusive findings on contrast-enhanced CT. Although the diagnosis was confirmed by a serum indirect hemagglutination assay positive for Echinococcus granulosus, the low-grade (18)F-FDG uptake in the context of the asymptomatic presentation was noteworthy, as it could be related to minimal active inflammation.

Hypergiant hepatic hemangiomas: case series.

Hemangiomas are the most common benign tumors of the liver. Hepatic hemangiomas originate from the proliferation of vascular endothelial cells, and enlarge by ectasia rather than hyperplasia. They are very variable in size and are classified accordingly and their management in the larger variety is debatable.

Antepartum Mastitis: A Rare Occurrence.

Puerperal or lactational mastitis is an inflammatory condition of the breast that is commonly encountered in breastfeeding mothers. It occurs most commonly in the postpartum period, generally in the first 6 weeks of breastfeeding. In contrast, antepartum mastitis is an uncommon condition, and if not treated adequately, it may be complicated by the formation of a breast abscess.

A rare case of malignant paraganglioma of urinary bladder.

Paraganglioma of the urinary bladder is a rare pathologic entity with no definitive histological, immunohistochemical or molecular features to determine its malignant potential. Malignancy is essentially determined by the presence of deep local invasion, invasion of adjacent structures and lymph node or distant metastases. So far, up to 180 cases of paraganglioma have been reported, with <30 being malignant.

Intestinal volvulus is a common condition seen in infancy and adulthood, but small bowel volvulus is a rare condition affecting the fetus in utero. Very few cases have been reported describing the ultrasound findings of the same. We present a case report of a case of intestinal volvulus which was diagnosed prenatally based on the ultrasound features of whirlpool sign and coffee bean sign.

Stewart-bluefarb acroangiodermatitis in a case of parkes-weber syndrome.

Stewart-Bluefarb acroangiodermatitis is the occurrence of pseudo-kaposiform changes with an underlying arterio-venous malformation. Parkes-Weber syndrome is a triad of arterio-venous malformation with varicose veins with bony and soft-tissue hypertrophy involving the extremity. A 13 year-old-female presented with ulcerated growth with bleeding episodes on right leg since past four years.
