HEPATIC DYSFUNCTION IN MEDICAL INTENSIVE CAREUNIT PATIENTS PREDICTS POOR OUTCOME.

Background: A large number of patients admitted to the medical intensive care unit (MICU) have abnormal liver function tests (LFT). This includes patients with critical illness with or without preexisting liver disease and patients with acute primary liver injury. There are very few studies which have investigated the spectrum of liver disease, clinical profile and outcome in patients admitted to the MICU.

Efficacy and Safety of Topical Solution of Diperoxochloric Acid for Neuropathic Diabetic Foot Ulcer: Results from a Phase 3, Multicentre, Randomized, Active-controlled, Parallel-group Study.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), if untreated, accounts for lower-limb amputations affecting patients' quality-of-life. Diperoxochloric acid (DPOCL) is known to heal DFU by its antibacterial and fibroblast stimulating activity. This was a phase 3, multicentre, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled, parallel-group study conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of topic solution of DPOCL compared with isotonic sodium chloride solution (ISCL).

Cognitive and affective empathy in men with alcohol dependence: Relation with clinical profile, abstinence, and motivation.

Background: Empathy plays a role not only in pathophysiology but also in planning management strategies for alcohol dependence; however, few studies have looked into it. No data are available regarding the variation of empathy with abstinence and motivation. Assessment based on cognitive and affective dimensions of empathy is needed.

Prescription patterns and medication adherence in preadolescent children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Background: Nonadherence in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can be as high as 80%, yet studies on adherence to medications in preadolescent children are few. Recent Indian trends in prescription patterns are lacking.

Aim: The present study assesses prescription patterns and adherence to medications in preadolescent children with ADHD.

Retro-Odontoid Pseudotumor Without Radiographic Instability with Congenital C1 Assimilation and C2-C3 Fusion: A Case Report.

Case: The authors present a case of retro-odontoid pseudotumor (ROP) with congenital C1 assimilation and C2-C3 block vertebra without radiological instability who presented with cervical myelopathy with spastic quadriparesis. The patient was managed with occipitocervical fusion and C1 laminectomy. She had rapid neurological recovery in 3 months postoperatively and at 2 years had complete resolution of the retro-odontoid mass.

Syringobulbia in a Setting of Charcot Arthropathy of the Elbow Secondary to Syringomyelia: A Case Report.

Case: The authors present a case of syringobulbia in a setting of elbow arthropathy due to syringomyelia. The patient had painless elbow instability with subtle neurological findings such as ulnar neuropathy, palatal palsy, and dysphonia. As she denied surgery, she was managed with physiotherapy and orthosis.

Retrieval of broken bone biopsy needle from the sacroiliac joint - A case report and review of literature.

Bone biopsies whether Computed Tomography guided or open, are one of the commonest procedures undertaken. Our literature review proves that bone biopsy needle fracture in a bone is a rare complication with no literature available on a needle fracture in a joint. We report a 7-year-old male who underwent an open needle biopsy.

A 23-year-old male patient presented with cognitive decline and seizures. Examination revealed Chvostek's and Trousseau's signs. Investigations revealed hypocalcaemia, hyperphosphatemia and normal intact parathyroid hormone levels.

Concurrent evaluation of microscopic observation of drug susceptibility assay for pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis.

Background: Methods for detection and drug susceptibility of tuberculosis (TB) with solid media are inexpensive but slow and laborious. Rapid methods to diagnose TB and multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) are a global priority for TB control.

Objectives: A study was performed to compare the sensitivity of detection of mycobacterial growth and time of culture positivity by microscopic observation of drug susceptibility (MODS) assay with that of Lowenstein-Jensen (LJ) culture in pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB and to evaluate the concordance of the susceptibilities to isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) by MODS and proportion method on LJ.
