Staphylococcus aureus is the most frequently isolated pathogen from wounds with multiple resistances to antibiotics. Honey has been demonstrated and reported to be effective antibacterial agent on Gram positive and Gram negative organisms. Hence, the present study was conducted to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial effect of Indian honeys on Staphylococcus aureus obtained from wounds.

A prospective study was conducted to determine the incidence of essential hypertension (EH) and identify markers, if any, in children of essential hypertension families. The study group included 90 children (2-18 years) with a parent or grandparent with EH while the control group had 25 age matched children from non-hypertensive families. Around 30% children (n=27) from these families had a diastolic blood pressure of >95th centile and an additional 27% (n=24) had borderline hypertension.

A total of 15 bacterial strains (7 Pseudomonas & 8 Klebsiella species) isolated from various samples which showed multi-drug resistance were studied to verify in vitro antibacterial action of honey on the principle of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) & its synergism with 3 common antibiotics--Gentamicin, Amikacin & Ceftazidime. The MIC of honey with saline for both organisms was found to be 1:2. The synergistic action was seen in the case of Pseudomonas spp.
