Wilson's disease (WD) is a relatively rare disease of copper metabolism. The diagnosis is often missed initially. The presentation is usually neurologic or hepatic, seen in 40% of patients.

Study of emotional intelligence and empathy in medical postgraduates.

Objectives: The important domains of emotional intelligence (EI) are self-awareness and control of emotions, motivating oneself, and empathy. These are necessary to handle any relationship. This study aims to (i) assess emotional intelligence focusing specifically on empathy; (ii) to study the level of anger; and (iii) correlating level of anger with (a) EI and (b) empathy in medical postgraduates.

In vitro effect of some Indian honeys on Staphylococcus aureus from wounds.

Staphylococcus aureus is the most frequently isolated pathogen from wounds with multiple resistances to antibiotics. Honey has been demonstrated and reported to be effective antibacterial agent on Gram positive and Gram negative organisms. Hence, the present study was conducted to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial effect of Indian honeys on Staphylococcus aureus obtained from wounds.

Sexual variation in India: A view from the west.

Sexual variation has been reported across cultures for millennia. Sexual variation deals with those facets of sexual behavior which are not necessarily pathological. It is any given culture that defines what is abnormal and what is deviant.

Depression in geriatric population in urban slums of Mumbai.

A community based study was conducted in an urban slum of Mumbai to assess the epidemiological factors associated with geriatric population and depression. A sample size of 196 was taken according to Lots quality technique, including all elderly above 60 years of age in the study area. Depressed elderly (using Geriatric Depression Scale) constituted 45.

Minimal access surgery in children - 5 years institutional experience.

Context: Minimal access surgery (MAS) in children are common place and performed worldwide with gratifying results as the learning curve of the surgeon attains plateau. We share our experience of this technically evolving modality of surgery, performed at our setup over a period of 5 years. We also review and individually compare the data for commonly performed procedures with other available series.

Primary pulmonary hydatid cysts in children-a report of three cases.

Three children with a total of six primary pulmonary hydatid cysts, all of whom underwent surgical management, are presented. Of these six hydatid cysts, two were treated with thoracotomy with cyst enucleation and capittonage, three with thoracoscopy-assisted minithoracotomy with enucleation and capittonage, and one with limited resection.

Essential hypertension: antecedents in children.

A prospective study was conducted to determine the incidence of essential hypertension (EH) and identify markers, if any, in children of essential hypertension families. The study group included 90 children (2-18 years) with a parent or grandparent with EH while the control group had 25 age matched children from non-hypertensive families. Around 30% children (n=27) from these families had a diastolic blood pressure of >95th centile and an additional 27% (n=24) had borderline hypertension.

Effect of honey on multidrug resistant organisms and its synergistic action with three common antibiotics.

A total of 15 bacterial strains (7 Pseudomonas & 8 Klebsiella species) isolated from various samples which showed multi-drug resistance were studied to verify in vitro antibacterial action of honey on the principle of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) & its synergism with 3 common antibiotics--Gentamicin, Amikacin & Ceftazidime. The MIC of honey with saline for both organisms was found to be 1:2. The synergistic action was seen in the case of Pseudomonas spp.
