Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

August 2023

Department of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Natural Science, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, 570015, India.

Visible-light active La-Fe-SrTiO (LaSrFeTiO) photocatalysts were synthesized via a dynamic hydrothermal route under different NaOH concentrations (2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 M). The results showed that altering NaOH concentrations changed the physicochemical characteristics of the materials. Namely, the decrease in particle size was observed when the NaOH levels were increased.

Enhanced Electrochemical Performance of Sugarcane Bagasse-Derived Activated Carbon via a High-Energy Ball Milling Treatment.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

October 2022

Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Institute of Nanomaterials Research and Innovation for Energy (IN-RIE), Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen 40002, Thailand.

Activated carbon (AC) from sugarcane bagasse was prepared using dry chemical activation with KOH. It was then subjected to a high-energy ball milling (HEBM) treatment under various milling speeds (600, 1200 and 1800 rpm) to produce AC nanoparticles from micro-size particles. The AC samples after the HEBM treatment exhibited reduced particle sizes, increased mesopore volume and a rich surface oxygen content, which contribute to higher pseudocapacitance.

In this research, we investigate the stability of a Li-ion cathode created by mixing a borate based glass which has been doped with Ni/Co and vanadium pentoxide (VO). VO has a high specific capacity in battery systems because of its layered structure and variety of oxidation states. However, due to the flimsy structure, the capacity stability of VO is fairly low.

October 2022

Center of Excellence for Regenerative Dentistry and Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok 10330, Thailand.

Intermittent compressive force influences human periodontal ligament (PDL) cell behavior that facilitates periodontal tissue regeneration. In response to mechanical stimuli, Yes-associated protein (YAP) has been recognized as a mechanosensitive transcriptional activator that regulates cell proliferation and cell fate decisions. This study aimed to investigate whether compressive forces influence cell proliferation and cell fate decisions of human PDL cells via YAP signaling.

This research proposed a simple ionic embedded method to improve electrical output performance by adding surface charges of cationic chitosan (CS) biopolymer for compatible utilization of the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). By simply embedding cationic salts, the TENG performance was enhanced by over four times more than that with pristine CS. Moreover, by modifying roughness on the film surface, the optimized condition of R-CS/3 %CaCl reached the highest V and I of ~149 V and ~15 μA, respectively, thus exceeding the output from pristine R-CS TENG by four- and three times of ⁓38 V and ⁓5.

Synthesis of carbon nanostructures at room temperature and under atmospheric pressure is challenging but it can provide significant impact on the development of many future advanced technologies. Here, the formation and growth characteristics of nanostructured carbon films on nascent Ag clusters during room-temperature electrochemical CO reduction reactions (CORR) are demonstrated. Under a ternary electrolyte system containing [BMIm][BF], propylene carbonate, and water, a mixture of sp/sp carbon allotropes were grown on the facets of Ag nanocrystals as building blocks.

August 2022

Giant Dielectric and Computational Design Research Group (GD-CDR), Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen 40002, Thailand.

The effects of the sintering conditions on the phase compositions, microstructure, electrical properties, and dielectric responses of TiO-excessive NaYCuTiO ceramics prepared by a solid-state reaction method were investigated. A pure phase of the NaYCuTiO ceramic was achieved in all sintered ceramics. The mean grain size slightly increased with increasing sintering time (from 1 to 15 h after sintering at 1070 °C) and sintering temperature from 1070 to 1090 °C for 5 h.

Novel MoWO with ZnO nanoflowers was synthesized on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MW-Z@MWCNTs) through a simple hydrothermal method, and this unique structure was applied as a counter electrode (CE) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) for the first time. The synergetic effect of ZnO nanoflowers and MoWO on MWCNTs was systematically investigated by different techniques. The amount of MWCNTs was optimized to achieve the best DSSC performance.

Zirconium clusters of UiO-66 have been hydroxylated with NaOH to generate strong binding sites for As(III) species in wastewater treatment. Hydroxylated UiO-66 provides high adsorption capacity over a wide range of pH from 1 to 10 with a maximum uptake of 204 mg g, which is significantly enhanced compared to those of pristine UiO-66, acid-modulated UiO-66, and other adsorbents for use in a wide pH range of treatment processes. The local structure of hydroxylated sites and As(III) adsorption mechanism are determined by extended X-ray absorption fine structure combined with density functional theory calculations.

Janus kinase (JAK) deregulation of the JAK/signal transducers and activators of transcription pathway leads to myelofibrosis that can be treated by JAK inhibitors including Ruxolitinib and Tofacitinib. Even though both inhibitors are effective against myelofibrosis, each of them has a different mode of action in the cells. Ruxolitinib is an inhibitor for selective JAK1/2, and Tofacitinib is an inhibitor for JAK3.

Rapid advancements in perovskite materials have led to potential applications in various optoelectronic devices, such as solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and photodetectors. Due to good photoelectric properties, perovskite enables low-cost and comparable performance in terms of responsivity, detectivity, and speed to those of the silicon counterpart. In this work, we utilized triple cation perovskite, well known for its high performance, stability, and wide absorption range, which is crucial for broadband photodetector applications.

The effect of CeF concentration and γ-irradiation on the physical, optical and luminescence properties of GdO-BO-CeF glasses were studied in this work. Before irradiation, the addition of CeF in glass degraded the network connectivity observed from FTIR and possibly created the non-bridging oxygen (NBO) in glass structure. This NBO caused the reduction of Ce/Ce ratio in XANES, the red-shift in transmission spectra and the raise of refractive index with addition of CeF content.

Metabolic sensor O-GlcNAcylation regulates erythroid differentiation and globin production via BCL11A.

Stem Cell Res Ther

June 2022

Siriraj Center of Excellence for Stem Cell Research, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, 2 Siriraj Hospital, Bangkoknoi, Bangkok, 10700, Thailand.

Background: Human erythropoiesis is a tightly regulated, multistep process encompassing the differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) toward mature erythrocytes. Cellular metabolism is an important regulator of cell fate determination during the differentiation of HSCs. However, how O-GlcNAcylation, a posttranslational modification of proteins that is an ideal metabolic sensor, contributes to the commitment of HSCs to the erythroid lineage and to the terminal erythroid differentiation has not been addressed.
