Background: For selected patients with early-stage breast cancer (BC), intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) has emerged as a convenient alternative to standard whole breast irradiation (WBI). We report a single institution experience with IORT in terms of oncologic outcomes, toxicities, and cosmesis.

Methods: Clinicopathological and perioperative outcomes of patients who underwent IORT for early-stage BC at a public hospital from 2017 to 2020 were retrospectively retrieved.

Burnout Evaluation of Radiation Residents Nationwide: Results of a Survey of United States Residents.

Purpose: To assess rates of burnout among US radiation oncology residents and evaluate program/resident factors associated with burnout.

Methods And Materials: A nationwide survey was distributed to residents in all US radiation oncology programs. The survey included the Maslach Burnout Index-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) as well as demographic and program-specific questions tailored to radiation oncology residents.

Reducing Anesthesia and Health Care Cost Through Utilization of Child Life Specialists in Pediatric Radiation Oncology.

Purpose: To analyze the effectiveness of a certified child life specialist (CCLS) in reducing the frequency of daily anesthesia at our institution, and to quantify the potential health care payer cost savings of CCLS utilization in the United States.

Methods And Materials: From 2006 to 2014, 738 children (aged ≤21 years) were treated with radiation therapy at our institution. We retrospectively analyzed the frequency of daily anesthesia before and after hiring a CCLS in 2011 after excluding patients aged 0 to 2 and >12 years.

Primary diffuse large cell lymphoma of the mandible.

Primary diffuse large cell lymphoma of the mandible is a rare form of extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Herein we present 4 cases treated at our institution over a 5-year period and review 40 cases previously reported in the English-literature. The median age at presentation is 51 years with equal distribution between males and females.

Unfiltered sulfur colloid and sentinel node biopsy for breast cancer: technical and kinetic considerations.

Background: There are few clinical data on technical limitations and radiocolloid kinetics related to sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy for breast cancer.

Methods: In 70 clinical node-negative patients, unfiltered 99mTc sulfur-colloid was injected peritumorally and cutaneous hot spots were mapped with a gamma probe. SLN biopsy was performed followed by axillary lymph node dissection.
