Current guidelines recommend cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) programming, including faster detection rates, longer detection durations, and strict discrimination for supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) to prevent unnecessary ICD treatment. This delayed-style ICD programming could lead to a rise in the possibility of VF undersensing. To avoid this risk, an innovative algorithm known as VF Therapy Assurance (VFTA; Abbott, Sylmar, CA) has been developed.

A scoping review of the Trauma Recovery Center model for underserved victims of violent crime.

Victimization in the United States is common and has long lasting negative impacts for individuals, often disproportionately impacting those of color and from low socioeconomic communities. The Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) model aims to provide comprehensive mental health and wrap-around case management services for underserved victims of crime. Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, we sought to further our knowledge about the impact of the TRC model.

Use of Artificial Intelligence in Lower Gastrointestinal and Small Bowel Disorders: An Update Beyond Polyp Detection.

Machine learning and its specialized forms, such as Artificial Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks, are increasingly being used for detecting and managing gastrointestinal conditions. Recent advancements involve using Artificial Neural Network models to enhance predictive accuracy for severe lower gastrointestinal (LGI) bleeding outcomes, including the need for surgery. To this end, artificial intelligence (AI)-guided predictive models have shown promise in improving management outcomes.

Worldwide Chronic Retrieval Experience of Helix-Fixation Leadless Cardiac Pacemakers.

Background: The growing use of leadless pacemaker (LP) technology requires safe and effective solutions for retrieving and removing these devices over the long term.

Objectives: This study sought to evaluate retrieval and removal of an active helix-fixation LP studied in worldwide regulatory clinical trials.

Methods: Subjects enrolled in the LEADLESS II phase 1 investigational device exemption, LEADLESS Observational, or LEADLESS Japan trials with an attempted LP retrieval at least 6 weeks postimplantation were included.

Warm Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia as a Rare Presentation of Pre-fibrotic Primary Myelofibrosis.

Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is an uncommon chronic myeloproliferative disorder that is commonly associated with Janus kinase 2 (JAK-2), calreticulin (CALR), or thrombopoietin receptor (MPL) mutations. Pre-fibrotic PMF (also known as pre-PMF or early PMF) is a subtype of PMF that is defined by a lower grade of fibrosis. In this report, we present a rare case of warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia (wAIHA) associated with pre-PMF.

Prospective Cohort Study Investigating Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Chronic Lung Disease in Preterm Infants.

Objective:  Chronic lung disease (CLD) is a complication of prematurity. Studies examining the effects of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs) on CLD are conflicting. This study investigated LC-PUFAs in the red blood cell membrane (RBCM) in preterm infants.

Lifelong Rheumatic Heart Disease: Evolution and Need for Tailored Care.

Rheumatic heart disease leads to significant cardiovascular morbidity and mortality globally. This case presentation emphasizes the importance of considering patients' unique socioeconomic factors, such as crowded living conditions and multigenerational housing, to implement culturally sensitive approaches to prevention, diagnosis, secondary antibiotic prophylaxis, and management.

ICU nutrition research: did the evidence get better? Remaining sources of bias.

Purpose Of The Review: To assess the quality of recently published (18 months from date of article request) randomized trials/systematic reviews of such trials that addressed the use of nutritional support in critically ill patients.

Recent Findings: Eligible papers were published between October 1, 2022 and April 7, 2024, only enrolled adults, described a comparison of a nutritional intervention to something else, and reported a clinically relevant outcome. Thirteen randomized trials and four systematic reviews of randomized trials were identified.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the interest in obtaining bilingual certification and to describe perspectives on language services by resident physicians.

CT Imaging as a Single Modality for Clinical Staging of Gastric Cancer in Limited Resource Centers: A Retrospective Pilot Study.

Background: Gastric cancer disproportionately impacts populations in resource-limited settings. Within a safety-net network, we assessed the utility of computed tomography (CT) as a single staging modality.

Methods: We utilized a clinical database of gastric cancer patients treated within the Los Angeles County safety-net hospital system from 2016 to 2023 in conjunction with retrospective imaging review by certified radiologists.

Comparing complication rates between Abbott Tendril 2088 and competitive manufacturer leads: Novel real-world data approach.

Introduction: While several studies have reported on the reliability of cardiac pacing leads, there are limited comparative data on lead performance. We compared long-term performance of Abbott Tendril™ STS 2088TC (Tendril 2088) leads with competitive manufacturer (CM) pacing leads using novel real-world data analytic methods.

Methods: Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) claims and Abbott device registration databases were linked to identify patients implanted with single-chamber or dual-chamber pacemakers with the Abbott Tendril 2088 lead from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2019 and were followed through December 31, 2021.

Miliary coccidioidomycosis mimicking tuberculosis: Case report and review of literature.

Miliary coccidioidomycosis is a severe manifestation of diseases caused by and that is endemic to the southwestern United States as well as Central and South America. While most cases of coccidioidomycosis present with pulmonary disease, certain risk factors increase the risk for disseminated disease. We present a case of miliary coccidioidomycosis in a 46-year-old patient with uncontrolled diabetes.
