Background Splenic flexure mobilization (SFM) is widely regarded as one of the most challenging steps in laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery, sparking ongoing debate. Some surgeons routinely advocate for SFM, citing its role in achieving greater left colonic reach, which facilitates a safe, tension-free, and well-vascularized anastomosis while adhering to oncological principles. Conversely, others argue that SFM does not consistently ensure these benefits and may increase the risk of complications, including splenic, bowel, or vascular injuries, as well as unnecessarily prolonging the procedure.

Xanomeline/trospium chloride (COBENFY™), formerly KarXT, is a first-in-class, oral, fixed-dose muscarinic agonist/antagonist combination being developed for use in schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease psychosis. Xanomeline is thought to confer efficacy by acting as an agonist at M and M muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain, and trospium chloride reduces the peripheral cholinergic adverse events associated with xanomeline. Xanomeline/trospium chloride received its first approval on 26 September 2024 in the USA for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.

We describe an atypical presentation of an isolated right ventricular metastasis of HCC following successful treatment with no evidence of primary disease recurrence. The case presented as gradually worsening hypertension and erythrocytosis in the setting of normal surveillance scans and alpha-fetoprotein levels.

This article presents a colorimetric visual biosensor designed for direct application in undiluted biofluids, which holds significant promise for point-of-need applications. Unlike traditional biosensors that struggle with heavily diluted sample matrices, the presented biosensor does not require any instrumentation or trained personnel, making it highly practical. The sensor features an oligonucleotide probe covalently attached to magnetically separable magnetite (FeO) particles.

Deterioration of a patient's state of consciousness is among the most concerning signs encountered in clinical practice. The evaluation of this finding carries a broad initial differential diagnosis and must account for any relevant medical history. We describe the case of a 41-year-old male with known retinal vasculopathy with cerebral leukoencephalopathy and systemic manifestations (RVCL-S) who presented with progressive mental status decline and acute onset intractable headache.

Background: Classically, there are two techniques for establishing pneumoperitoneum in laparoscopic and robotic surgeries: the closed Veress needle technique and Hasson's technique for open placement of laparoscopic ports. Most surgeons prefer the open Hasson technique, even though it is not the gold standard. Some surgeons still favour the Veress needle technique despite literature linking it to visceral and vascular damage.

Angiopoeitin-2 (Ang2) is a vascular growth factor involved in regulating angiogenesis and endothelial remodeling. Higher Ang2 levels have been associated with mortality in the general population and among male hemodialysis patients, but its effects on concomitant heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) are unknown. Plasma samples from 73 ESRD patients and 40 healthy patients were analyzed for Ang2 concentrations using ELISA.

Background: Neurological disorders are a major global health concern, especially in BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), where demographic and socio-economic changes have amplified their impact. This study evaluates trends in incidence, prevalence, mortality, and Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) associated with neurological diseases in these countries from 1990 to 2021, focusing on sex disparities and key risk factors.
Methods: Data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 database.

Background: Non-communicable diseases contribute to a significant global burden of disease and are associated with modifiable risk factors such as physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption. These risk factors are closely related with lifestyles and eating patterns which are often culturally embedded and managed differently in various health care settings.
Aim Of The Study: To assesses the applicability and feasibility of the KAPS (Knowledge, attitude, and practice) survey in generating data about knowledge, attitudes, and practices about healthy lifestyles within eastern Mediterranean settings and providing foundations for testing other models or development of a newer model in this area which captures and influence behavior changes towards healthy lifestyles.

Primary cardiac angiosarcomas are rare malignant tumors that can cause chest pain and heart failure symptoms. They can be diagnosed using multimodality imaging, primarily echocardiogram, with formal diagnosis requiring biopsy. A 56-year-old man with history of hypertension and dyslipidemia presented with acute crushing chest pain and shortness of breath.

Purpose: Electronic health records (EHRs) comprise a rich source of real-world data for cancer studies, but they often lack critical structured data elements such as diagnosis date and disease stage. Fortunately, such concepts are available from hospital cancer registries. We describe experiences from integrating cancer registry data with EHR and billing data in an interoperable data model across a multisite clinical research network.

Background: The relationship between the extent and severity of stress-induced ischemia and the extent and severity of anatomic coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with obstructive CAD is multifactorial and includes the intensity of stress achieved, type of testing used, presence and extent of prior infarction, collateral blood flow, plaque characteristics, microvascular disease, coronary vasomotor tone, and genetic factors. Among chronic coronary disease participants with site-determined moderate or severe ischemia, we investigated associations between ischemia severity on stress testing and the extent of CAD on coronary computed tomography angiography.
Methods: Clinically indicated stress testing included nuclear imaging, echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, or nonimaging exercise tolerance test.

The study investigates the impact of incorporating Ni and Cu into the lattice of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) to enhance their anticancer and antioxidant properties. Characterization techniques including pXRD, FTIR, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, FESEM, and EDAX confirm the successful synthesis and structural modifications of Ni/Cu-ZnO NPs. Anticancer activity against breast cancer (MDA) and normal skin (BHK-21) cells reveals dose-dependent cytotoxicity, with Ni/Cu-ZnO NPs exhibiting higher efficacy against MDA cells while being less harmful to BHK-21 cells.

The bacterial pathogen forms multicellular communities known as biofilms in which cells are held together by an extracellular matrix principally composed of repurposed cytoplasmic proteins and extracellular DNA. These biofilms assemble during infections or under laboratory conditions by growth on medium containing glucose, but the intracellular signal for biofilm formation and its downstream targets were unknown. Here, we present evidence that biofilm formation is triggered by a drop in the levels of the second messenger cyclic-di-AMP.

Unlabelled: We present the chemical synthesis of polyethyleneimine-conjugated silver sulfide nanoparticles (PEI/AS) utilizing an economical solvothermal synthesis method, aimed at developing effective alternative antibacterial agents. The antibacterial efficacy of the synthesized materials, both with and without the application of near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, was evaluated in vitro against two distinct clinically relevant multi-drug-resistant (MDR) uropathogenic strains: and . The bactericidal effects induced by NIR light indicate that the PEI/AS nanoparticles possess an efficiency that is five times greater than that of AgS alone.

Introduction: The value of Source Data Verification (SDV) has been a common theme in the applied Clinical Translational Science literature. Yet, few published assessments of SDV quality exist even though they are needed to design risk-based and reduced monitoring schemes. This review was conducted to identify reports of SDV quality, with a specific focus on accuracy.
