Limited research has been conducted in Asian elderly patients (aged 65 years and above) for in-hospital mortality prediction after an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) using Deep Learning (DL) and Machine Learning (ML). We used DL and ML to predict in-hospital mortality in Asian elderly STEMI patients and compared it to a conventional risk score for myocardial infraction outcomes. Malaysia's National Cardiovascular Disease Registry comprises an ethnically diverse Asian elderly population (3991 patients).

Background: Splanchnic-cerebral oxygenation ratio (SCOR), the ratio of splanchnic tissue oxygen (StO s) to simultaneously measured cerebral tissue oxygen (StO c), has been described as a surrogate to detect impaired splanchnic oxygenation associated with hypoperfusion status such as necrotizing enterocolitis. This concept is based on the presumption that any change in SCOR indicates a corresponding change in splanchnic tissue oxygenation as the numerator, whereas cerebral tissue oxygenation as the denominator remains stable. However, it is questionable to utilise this concept to detect splanchnic oxygenation changes in the context of packed red blood cell transfusion (PRBCT).

The P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) is an ATP-gated membrane ion channel that is expressed by multiple cell types. Following activation by extracellular ATP, the P2X7R mediates a broad range of cellular responses including cytokine and chemokine release, cell survival and differentiation, the activation of transcription factors, and apoptosis. The P2X7R is made up of three P2X7 subunits that contain specific domains essential for the receptor's varied functions.

Secretory IgA is a key mucosal component ensuring host-microbiota mutualism. Here we use nutritional geometry modelling in mice fed 10 different macronutrient-defined, isocaloric diets, and identify dietary protein as the major driver of secretory IgA production. Protein-driven secretory IgA induction is not mediated by T-cell-dependent pathways or changes in gut microbiota composition.

Background: It is well established that counter-regulation to hypoxia follows a hierarchical pattern, with brain-sparing in preference to peripheral tissues. In contrast, it is unknown if the same hierarchical sequence applies to recovery from hypoxia after correction of anemia with packed red blood cell transfusion (PRBCT).
Objective: To understand the chronology of cerebral and splanchnic tissue oxygenation resulting after correction of anemia by PRBCT in preterm infants using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS).

Introduction: Clinical studies supported by immunological data indicate early life intervention strategies to be promising in reducing the growing global burden of food allergies. The events that predispose to food allergy, including the induction of allergen-specific immune responses, appear to be initiated early in development. Early exposure to food allergens in utero and via breast milk is likely to be important in initiating oral tolerance.

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) control immune system activity and inhibit inflammation. While, in mice, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are known to be essential regulators of naturally occurring and in vitro induced Tregs (iTregs), data on their contribution to the development of human iTregs are sparse, with no reports of the successful SCFAs-augmented in vitro generation of fully functional human iTregs. Likewise, markers undoubtedly defining human iTregs are missing.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Obstructed defecation (OD) is often associated with trauma to pelvic connective tissue and nerves sustained during pregnancy and childbirth. Although there are multiple potential etiologies of defecatory dysfunction, the pathophysiology of this symptom complex is not well understood. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of parity in the development of obstructed defecatory symptoms in women with normal anorectal anatomy in a search for evidence of a presumptive neuropathic effect of pregnancy and childbirth.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Staging of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is important in clinical practice and research. Pelvic organ descent on Valsalva can be confounded by levator co-activation, which may be avoided by assessment on coughing. We evaluated the performance of a three consecutive coughs maneuver in the assessment of POP compared with standardised 6-second Valsalva.

The load dependence of global longitudinal strain (GLS) means that changes in systolic blood pressure (BP) between visits may confound the diagnosis of cancer-treatment-related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD). We sought to determine whether the estimation of myocardial work, which incorporates SBP, could overcome this limitation. In this case-control study, 44 asymptomatic patients at risk of CTRCD underwent echocardiography at baseline and after oncologic treatment.
