Purpose: Multiple mitochondrial syndromes, such as Kearns-Sayre, involve the concurrence of diabetes mellitus and inherited pigmentary retinopathy. It is rare, however, for proliferative disease to develop in these patients as existing inner retinal dysfunction is thought to be protective.

Methods: To our knowledge this is the first description of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) in Kearns-Sayre syndrome.

Aim: To examine the efficacy of current non-servo-based cooling methods used by NETS NSW in treating hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) with therapeutic hypothermia (TH) in neonatal retrieval.

Methods: A retrospective observational study of infants treated with TH for HIE retrieved by NETS NSW from January 2017 to June 2020 inclusive. Primary outcomes were the proportion of neonates achieving TH within 6 h of life and maintaining temperature in a therapeutic range.

In Australia, since the virus re-emerged in 2022, shifts in seasonal influenza patterns have been observed. Both the 2022 and 2023 seasons started earlier than pre-pandemic norms and were categorised as moderate to severe, highlighting the renewed importance of prevention strategies for seasonal influenza.

Background: Due to their anatomical locations, optic pathway gliomas (OPGs) can rarely be cured by resection. Given the importance of preserving visual function, we analyzed radiological and visual acuity (VA) outcomes for the type II RAF inhibitor tovorafenib in the OPG subgroup of the phase 2 FIREFLY-1 trial.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist-based therapies (GLP1BTs), including glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) with/without glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), have demonstrated clinically significant weight loss and health gains in adults, hence interest in using them in younger and older people. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell (CAR-T) therapies present options for patients diagnosed with certain leukemias. Recent advances of the technology included a method to integrate the CAR into the T cell receptor alpha constant (TRAC) locus to take advantage of the endogenous promoter and regulatory elements for CAR expression.
