Background: Inactivation of infectious liquid waste can be performed by different means, including autoclaving or chemical inactivation. Autoclaving is most widely used, but cannot always be implemented, so that chemical inactivation is a possible alternative. However, its efficacy has to be proven by in-house validation.

The literature on the epistemology of ignorance already discusses how certain forms of discrimination, such as racism and sexism, are perpetuated by the ignorance of individuals and groups. However, little attention has been given to how speciesism-a form of discrimination on the basis of species membership-is sustained through ignorance Of the few animal ethicists who explicitly discuss ignorance, none have related this concept to speciesism as a form of discrimination. However, it is crucial to explore this connection, I argue, as ignorance is both an integral part of the injustice done to animals as well as an obstacle to improving their treatment.

Background: Gigantomastia is a disabling condition characterized by excess breast tissue. Historically, free nipple graft (FNG) has been preferred, prioritizing the nipple-areola complex (NAC) vascularity. The NAC-carrying pedicle technique, which is most commonly used in case of hypertrophy of the breast, has been suggested as a viable alternative for gigantomastia according to recent evidence, with reduced rates of NAC necrosis and improved outcomes.

Introduction: Research has shown that women's vocal characteristics change during the menstrual cycle. Further, evidence suggests that individuals alter their voices depending on the context, such as when speaking to a highly attractive person, or a person with a different social status. The present study aimed at investigating the degree to which women's voices change depending on the vocal characteristics of the interaction partner, and how any such changes are modulated by the woman's current menstrual cycle phase.

Introduction: Gratitude has been found to be relevant for relational well-being, and there has been ongoing interest in uncovering the mechanisms by which gratitude functions in interpersonal relationships. Only recently, gratitude has been studied within the context of dyadic coping-the interpersonal process of how partners communicate their stress, support each other during stressful times, and jointly cope with stress-in romantic couples. Drawing up on theoretical models on the functions of gratitude within close relationships and previous research, we aimed to advance this line of research and examined the potential mediating role of gratitude between dyadic coping and relationship satisfaction applying a dyadic perspective.

Lumbar facet joints are the source of pain in 15%-41% of individuals experiencing low back pain (LBP). Conventional lumbar facet radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has Level II evidence for improving pain and function. The best proven technique, the parallel technique, is technically challenging, time-consuming, and often uncomfortable for the patient.

Creativity and style in music playing originates from constraints and imperfect interactions between instruments and players. Digital and robotic systems have so far been unable to capture this naturalistic playing. Whether as an additional tool for musicians, function restoration with prosthetics, or artificial intelligence-powered systems, the physical embodiment and interactions generated are critical for expression and connection with an audience.

Purpose: Although studies have evaluated benralizumab, a monoclonal IL-5 receptor α antibody in severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA), in real-world settings, additional evidence is needed to further characterize its effectiveness in specific patient populations. Our study aimed to evaluate asthma control over 56 weeks in patients treated with benralizumab in Swiss real-world settings.
Patients And Methods: Conducted across 13 centres, this prospective, observational, non-interventional study involved 73 adults with physician confirmed SEA.

Accurate diagnosis of regional atmospheric and surface energy budgets is critical for understanding the spatial distribution of heat uptake associated with the Earth's energy imbalance (EEI). This contribution discusses frameworks and methods for consistent evaluation of key quantities of those budgets using observationally constrained data sets. It thereby touches upon assumptions made in data products which have implications for these evaluations.

Unlabelled: As observed by the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and GRACE Follow On (GRACE-FO) missions, global terrestrial water storage (TWS), excluding ice sheets and glaciers, declined rapidly between May 2014 and March 2016. By 2023, it had not yet recovered, with the upper end of its range remaining 1 cm equivalent height of water below the upper end of the earlier range. Beginning with a record-setting drought in northeastern South America, a series of droughts on five continents helped to prevent global TWS from rebounding.

Background: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a progressive disease characterized by disproportionate ventricular enlargement at brain imaging with gait disturbance and an increased risk of falling. Gait assessment is a key feature in the diagnosis of iNPH and characterization of post-surgical outcomes.
Research Question: How do gait parameters change 24 h after CSF tap test (CSFTT) and after ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery?
Methods: The PRISMA guidelines were used to perform the systematic review.

2024 not only marked the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the organizer by Hilde Pröscholdt-Mangold and Hans Spemann, but also the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the homeobox, a DNA region encoding a DNA binding peptide present in several transcription factors of critical importance for the gastrulating embryo. In particular, this sequence is found in the 39 members of the amniote Hox gene family, a series of genes activated in mid-gastrulation and involved in organizing morphologies along the extending anterior to posterior (AP) body axis. Over the past 30 years, the study of their coordinated regulation in various contexts has progressively revealed their surprising regulatory strategies, based on mechanisms acting in-cis, which can translate a linear distribution of series of genes along the chromatin fiber into the proper sequences of morphologies observed along our various body axes.

Objectives: The placebo response in clinical trials has four components: regression to the mean (RTM), measurement artefacts, natural tendency (NT) of the disease, and the genuine placebo effect. Our objective is to determine what contributes to the size of the placebo-effect in clinical trials by meta-regressions of randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials.
Study Design And Setting: We identified five diseases where data on the rates of NT were available to search for a sample of n=150 (5x30) RCTs.
Background: Lebrikizumab demonstrated statistically significant improvements in patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis at week 16 with a durable response up to week 52.
Objective: To investigate the efficacy of lebrikizumab-treated patients at 52 weeks who did not achieve the ADvocate1 and ADvocate2 protocol-defined response criteria (≥75% improvement in the Eczema Area and Severity Index [EASI 75] or Investigator Global Assessment [IGA] 0/1 with ≥2-point improvement without rescue medication) after 16 weeks.
Methods: This analysis includes observed data for patients who received lebrikizumab every 2 weeks during the induction period, did not achieve the protocol-defined response, and subsequently received open-label lebrikizumab treatment.

Introduction: Surgical treatment of ulnar tunnel syndrome is controversial, with no consensus on the ideal procedure. Nevertheless, in-situ decompression seems to provide faster recovery with less morbidity than neurolysis-transposition. The aim of this retrospective study was to validate a new percutaneous technique using ultrasonography.

Determining how children solve arithmetic problems when they stop using their fingers is a real challenge. To take it up, the evolution of problem-size effects for tie and non-tie problems was observed when 6-year-olds (N = 65) shift from finger counting to mental strategies. These observations revealed that the problem-size effect remained the same for non-tie problems, whereas it drastically decreased for tie problems.
