Mitochondrial transcription was investigated in a cytoplasmic male-sterile (CMS) Brassica napus line with rearranged mitochondrial (mt) DNA mostly inherited from Arabidopsis thaliana. The transcript patterns were compared with the corresponding male-fertile progenitors, B. napus and A.

Somatic Brassica napus (+) Arabidopsis thaliana hybrids with a cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS)-inducing cytoplasm were screened for fertility-restored plants. One line was selected and recurrently backcrossed with the maintainer line, B. napus, resulting in fertile/sterile segregating populations.

Field data of physical properties in heterogeneous crystalline bedrock, like porosity and fracture aperture, is associated with uncertainty that can have a significant impact on the analysis of solute transport in rock fractures. Solutions to the central temporal moments of the residence time probability density function (PDF) are derived in a closed form for a solute Dirac pulse. The solutions are based on a model that takes into account advection along the fracture plane, diffusion into the rock matrix and sorption kinetics in the rock matrix.

The role of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the control of teratoma cell proliferation was examined. It was found that bFGF stimulates proliferation at low concentrations but induces cell migration at higher doses. These effects could be efficiently counteracted by addition of protamine sulphate.
