Background: Breast cancer (BC) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are prevalent comorbidities in aging populations. Advances in BC treatment have improved survival rates but increased the risk of CVD, particularly among younger patients with BRCA1/2 mutations. BRCA1/2 gene mutations, prevalent in younger BC patients, impair cardioprotective effects, elevating CVD risk alongside cancer treatments.

What are the training and support needs for homelessness hostel staff supporting older residents with memory and cognitive problems? A qualitative study.

Background: An increasing number of older people are experiencing homelessness and memory problems, many of whom are supported in temporary hostel accommodation. This can be a challenge for hostel staff who may not have adequate training and support but who often support those with significant memory impairment in their day-to-day work. The study aimed to investigate the training and support that hostel staff require to meet the needs of older hostel residents experiencing memory and cognitive problems, and thus enhance hostel resident quality of life and well-being, considering what additional knowledge, skills, and support hostel staff need to achieve this.

Prehospital lactate analysis in suspected sepsis improves detection of patients with increased mortality risk: an observational study.

Background: Rapid, adequate treatment is crucial to reduce mortality in sepsis. Risk stratification scores used at emergency departments (ED) are limited in detecting all septic patients with increased mortality risk. We assessed whether the addition of prehospital lactate analysis to clinical risk stratification tools improves detection of patients with increased risk for rapid deterioration and death in sepsis.

The association between cognitive impairment and oral health or oral hygiene behaviors among multiethnic older adults in Western China: a cross-sectional multicenter study.

Background: Older adults with cognitive impairment tend to experience deteriorating oral health and inadequate oral hygiene behaviors, but few studies have addressed interethnic variability. This study aimed to explore the associations between cognitive impairment and oral health or oral hygiene behaviors in multiethnic older adults in Western China.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional multicenter study from four provinces of Western China, recruiting multiethnic older adults aged 50 years and older between July and December 2018.

Despite extensive research on absolute pitch (AP), there remains no gold-standard task to measure its presence or extent. This systematic review investigated the methods of pitch-naming tasks for the classification of individuals with AP and examined how our understanding of the AP phenotype is affected by variability in the tasks used to measure it. Data extracted from 160 studies (N = 23,221 participants) included (i) the definition of AP, (ii) task characteristics, (iii) scoring method, and (iv) participant scores.

Grasslands cover approximately a third of the Earth's land surface and account for about a third of terrestrial carbon storage. Yet, we lack strong predictive models of grassland plant biomass, the primary source of carbon in grasslands. This lack of predictive ability may arise from the assumption of linear relationships between plant biomass and the environment and an underestimation of interactions of environmental variables.

Purpose: To evaluate current MRI-based criteria for malignancy in mesorectal nodal structures in rectal cancer.

Method: Mesorectal nodal structures identified on baseline MRI as lymph nodes were anatomically compared to their corresponding structures histopathologically, reported as lymph nodes, tumour deposits or extramural venous invasion. All anatomically matched nodal structures from patients with primary surgery and all malignant nodal structures from patients with neoadjuvant treatment were included.

Data were collected from a population-based Nordic JIA cohort of 240 patients that received a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan approximately 17 years after onset of JIA. The cohort was randomized into two groups: A baseline group for establishing the index (n = 210) and a test group (n = 30).

This article discusses the relevance of delusions for a finding of criminal insanity. The authors start from the recognition that the psychiatric notion of delusion is considered relevant to criminal insanity in most jurisdictions and therefore integrates psychiatric perspectives to define delusions.
