Self-Reported Delayed Adverse Events and Flare Following COVID-19 Vaccination Among Patients With Autoimmune Rheumatic Disease (AIRD) in Malaysia: Results From the COVAD-2 Study.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of self-reported delayed adverse events (DAEs), major AEs, and flares following COVID-19 vaccinations among patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) in Malaysia.

Methodology: An electronically validated survey from the COVID-19 vaccination in autoimmune diseases (COVAD) study group was distributed in July 2021 to patients with autoimmune diseases and healthy controls (HCs). The survey collected data on DAEs (any AE that persisted or occurred after 7 days of vaccination), any early or delayed major adverse events (MAEs), and flares following COVID-19 vaccination.

Neuropsychological test performance in mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: We sought to characterize the cognitive profile among individuals with mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies (MCI-LB) to help guide future clinical criteria.

Methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis included MCI-LB studies with cognitive data from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and PsycINFO (January 1990 to March 2023). MCI-LB scores were compared to controls, MCI due to Alzheimer's disease (MCI-AD), and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) groups with random-effects models.

We investigate the use of gestures in children with cochlear implants (CIs), with a particular focus on deictic, iconic, and conventional gestures. The aim is to understand how the use of gestures in everyday interactions relates to age, vocabulary testing results, and language development reported by parents.

Living in a bubble with profound difficulties-parents' experiences of extremely preterm survivors.

Aim: To analyse the challenges faced by parents of extremely preterm infants born before 24 weeks of gestation and the potential buffering effect of perceived resources on the family's health continuum.

Methods: The qualitative data were obtained from 70 parents of 70 infants born before 24 weeks of gestation, through open-ended questions in a survey. An inductive content analysis was conducted to identify themes and patterns in the parents' experiences.

Purpose: Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) is a highly prevalent disorder leading to physical, cognitive and functional decline. We report key barriers in the management of individuals with cSVD, the potential benefit of cSVD-dedicated health services, and evidence from existing models of care for adults with cSVD.

Methods: We examined information from a scientific seminar developed between seven experts in cSVD during the eighth European Stroke Organisation Conference that discussed the optimal health care for adults with cSVD and what health services dedicated to cSVD should include.

Introduction: While various demographic factors and underlying medical conditions are associated with the development of post-COVID conditions within a month after SARS-CoV-2 infection, less is known about factors associated with post-COVID symptoms that persist for 6 months or more. The aim of this review was to determine the association between underlying conditions, other risk factors, health behaviors, and the presence of symptoms ≥6 months after COVID-19.

Methods: Studies reporting on post-COVID symptoms were searched in databases, including Medline, EMBASE, Global Health, PsycInfo, Scopus, CINAHL, Proquest, and WHO COVID-19 literature, from the beginning of the pandemic until November 2022.

Room-temperature spin-conserved electron transport to semiconductor quantum dots using a superlattice barrier.

To realize the optical transfer of electron spin information, developing a semiconductor layer for efficient transport of spin-polarized electrons to the active layers is necessary. In this study, electron spin transport from a GaAs/AlGaAs superlattice (SL) barrier to InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) is investigated at room temperature through a combination of time-resolved photoluminescence and rate equation analysis, separating the two transport processes from the GaAs layer around the QDs and SL barrier. The electron transport time in the SL increases for a thicker quantum well (QW) of SL due to the weaker wavefunction overlap between adjacent QWs.

Purpose: To explore this, we used the Swedish version of the Child and Family Follow-up Survey (CFFS-SWE) to describe the participation of 39 children (aged 5-17 years) who had sustained ABIs.

Materials And Methods: We assessed their participation using the CFFS-SWE at three points: upon discharge from the acute hospital, six months post-discharge, and between one and four years after discharge.

On February 6, 2023, a strong earthquake (7.8 Richter scale) shook southwestern Türkiye, and also affected areas in northwest Syria, resulting in over 50 000 fatalities and more than 100 000 injured in Türkiye, in addition to the displacement of approximately 3 million people. In response to an international request for assistance from the Turkish government, the United Kingdom (UK) government deployed an Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Type 1 to provide outpatient care.

An eco-physiological model of forest photosynthesis and transpiration under combined nitrogen and water limitation.

Although the separate effects of water and nitrogen (N) limitations on forest growth are well known, the question of how to predict their combined effects remains a challenge for modeling of climate change impacts on forests. Here, we address this challenge by developing a new eco-physiological model that accounts for plasticity in stomatal conductance and leaf N concentration. Based on optimality principle, our model determines stomatal conductance and leaf N concentration by balancing carbon uptake maximization, hydraulic risk and cost of maintaining photosynthetic capacity.

Stabilizing Schottky-to-Ohmic Switching in HfO-Based Ferroelectric Films via Electrode Design.

The discovery of ferroelectric phases in HfO-based films has reignited interest in ferroelectrics and their application in resistive switching (RS) devices. This study investigates the pivotal role of electrodes in facilitating the Schottky-to-Ohmic transition (SOT) observed in devices consisting of ultrathin epitaxial ferroelectric HfYO (YHO) films deposited on LaSrMnO-buffered Nb-doped SrTiO (NbSTO|LSMO) with Ti|Au top electrodes. These findings indicate combined filamentary RS and ferroelectric switching occurs in devices with designed electrodes, having an ON/OFF ratio of over 100 during about 10 cycles.

Western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is an invasive agricultural pest with developed resistance to abamectin in some strains due to frequent treatment with the pesticide. In this study, we examined differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) between abamectin-resistant (Aba; under abamectin selective pressure) and susceptible strains (Aba; without abamectin selective pressure) of F. occidentalis.

Place of death and healthcare utilisation at the end of life among individuals with mental and behavioural disorders as underlying cause of death: population-level multiple-register study.

Background: Understanding the place of death for individuals with mental and behavioural disorders (MBDs) is essential for identifying disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, as well as addressing broader health inequities within this population.

Aims: To examine the place of death among individuals in Sweden with the underlying cause of death reported as a MBD and compare variations between diagnostic groups, as well as explore associations between place of death and individual, sociodemographic and clinical factors.

Method: This population-level analysis used death certificate data (gender, age, underlying cause of death and place of death) recorded between 2013 and 2019 and other national register data.

Effects of self-monitoring physical activity with wearable activity trackers on perceived joint function and health-related quality of life in people with hip and knee osteoarthritis: a secondary analysis of a cluster-randomised clinical trial.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) often leads to pain and functional limitations, impacting work and daily life. Physical activity (PA) is an important part of the treatment. Wearable activity trackers (WATs) offer a novel approach to promote PA but could also aid in finding a sustainable PA level over time.

Pre-processing of paleogenomes: mitigating reference bias and postmortem damage in ancient genome data.

We investigate alternative strategies against reference bias and postmortem damage in low coverage paleogenomes. Compared to alignment to the linear reference genome, we show that masking known polymorphic sites and graph alignment effectively remove reference bias, but only starting from raw read files.
