Evaluation of lavender and rose aromatherapies on the success of inferior alveolar nerve block in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis: A randomized clinical trial.

Trial Design: This is a prospective, block-randomized, blinded, multiple arm and parallel-group superiority clinical trial.

Methods: Seventy-eight patients satisfying the recruitment standards, were randomly allocated into three groups as follows: Group I (n = 26) - Inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) devoid of aromatherapy (AT); Group II (n = 26) - IANB with lavender AT and Group III - IANB with rose AT (n = 26) with the help of the ultrasonic aroma diffuser (with respective oils)for 20 min/2 h in operatories 1,2 and 3 respectively. For AT, 3-4 drops of lavender and rose-conditioned oils were added from a 100 ml solution containing 100 mg of these medicinal plants.

Impact of self-assessment on dental student's performance in pre-clinical conservative dentistry course.

Background: Self-assessment (SA) is an interactive course that endorses the accomplishment of learning objectives through learners' identification of insufficiencies in their didactic knowledge and pre-clinical skills. This study was planned to determine whether there is any improvement in the faculty assessment (FA) score following the implementation of SA in the Pre-clinical Conservative Dentistry Course.

Background: It has been speculated that the pathogenesis of diseases prompted by cigarette smoking includes oxidative damage by free radicals. Though, definitive evidence that smoking may cause the oxidative modification of target molecules in vivo is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to estimate and compare the levels of salivary Thiocyanate (SCN) and power of hydrogen (pH) in the saliva of smokers and nonsmokers with chronic periodontitis (ChP).

Distribution and molecular characterisation of in the oral cavity of children.

Background: Dental caries is a chronic and multifactorial disease mainly caused by microorganisms that are accumulated on soft and hard tissues of oral cavity. Lactobacillus is one of that kind, produces acid after metabolic breakdown of dietary sugar and reduces the pH of oral environment, resulting in teeth demineralisation or dental caries.

Aim: The present study focuses on the distribution and characterisation of lactobacilli in the oral cavity of children which are associated with dental caries formation.

To improve the quality of life of these patients, the options include surgical reconstruction and maxillofacial prosthesis.

Evaluation of two internal fixation techniques for mandibular parasymphyseal fractures comparing conventional titanium miniplates with customised titanium CRB omega miniplates: a prospective study.

Our aim was to compare the efficacy and outcome of customised, titanium, CRB (Chandrashekhar Rushiji Bande), omega miniplates with those of conventional titanium miniplates in the management of parasymphyseal fractures of the mandible, with or without involvement of the mental nerve, after clinical and radiographic evaluation. A total of 252 parasymphyseal fractures in 200 patients were selected for the study over the period of seven years (January 2010-January2017) and divided randomly into two groups. The first group included 126 fractures treated with two conventional titanium miniplates (conventional group) and the second 126 fractures treated with one customised, titanium, CRB, omega miniplate (customised group).

Introduction: Very few researches in the past have tried to evaluate the effect of herbal toothpaste on saliva and salivary constituents like alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase which play an important role in maintaining oral health.

Aim: To evaluate and compare the effect of three different herbal toothpastes on Salivary Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) and salivary Acid Phosphatase (ACP).

Material And Methods: The present study was a preliminary study conducted among 45 dental students (15 subjects in each group) in the age group of 19-21 years.

Management of 'labial' type of dens invaginatus: A rare case report.

Dens invaginatus is a developmental anomaly resulting in an infolding of the enamel organ into the dental papilla prior to calcification of the dental tissues. The invagination predisposes the tooth for the development of dental caries. Conventional radiographs do not provide detailed information concerning the three-dimensional image, which would help the clinician in making a confirmatory diagnosis and planning the treatment before undertaking the actual treatment.

Extended nasolabial flap compared with the platysma myocutaneous muscle flap for reconstruction of intraoral defects after release of oral submucous fibrosis: a comparative study.

We compared extended nasolabial flaps and coronoidectomy with platysma myocutaneous muscle flaps in the management of 20 randomly selected patients with histologically confirmed oral submucous fibrosis. Ten patients were treated by release of fibrous bands, bilateral coronoidectomy, and reconstruction with an extended nasolabial flap (nasolabial group), and the other 10 by bilateral release of fibrous bands, coronoidectomy, and reconstruction with a platysma myocutaneous muscle flap (platysma group). In the nasolabial group the mean preoperative interincisal mouth opening was 12(range 3-14)mm, and in the platysma group it was 11 (3-13).
