Utilization of adolescent-friendly health services and its determinants in a rural area of Maharashtra.

Context: Adolescent phase is a very crucial period in one's life, much emotional and psychological support is needed for an adolescent to bloom into a responsible adult. But unfortunately adolescents do not get the support or they fail to seek support due to lack of awareness. Government of India, to address this issue has established dedicated adolescent friendly health services (AFHS).

Dengue Vaccination: Towards a New Dawn of Curbing Dengue Infection.

Dengue is an infectious disease caused by dengue virus (DENV) and is a serious global burden. Antibody-dependent enhancement and the ability of DENV to infect immune cells, along with other factors, lead to fatal Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever and Dengue Shock Syndrome. This necessitates the development of a robust and efficient vaccine but vaccine development faces a number of hurdles.

District-Wise Treatment Gaps and Hospitalizations in Under-Five Children With Diarrhea in India.

India bears greatest under-5 diarrheal burden and mortality. We studied geographical variation in under-5 diarrhea prevalence, oral rehydration solution (ORS) and zinc supplementation treatment gaps and hospitalization rates. We point to treatment gap in western Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

Assessment of Quality of Life in Patients of Mastectomy With Chemotherapy.

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in India as well as the world. In India, 48% of patients with breast cancer are below 50 years of age, indicating a huge age shift in the last 25 years. Breast cancer in an early age group increased the five-year survival rate and increased life expectancy has created a large group of breast cancer survivors who battle scars of disease as well as treatment.

Imidacloprid Poisoning: An Emerging Cause of Potentially Fatal Poisoning.

There are a variety of pesticides that are used to control the pests in agricultural lands and other places. Newer pesticides, developed as an alternative to highly toxic organophosphates such as imidacloprid including other neonicotinoid compounds, are being increasingly used considering their less harmful effects in case of human exposures. Though it is considered relatively safer to human beings, it can lead to potentially life-threatening complications and acute poisoning with these compounds may be fatal in large ingestion.

Adverse drug reaction profile of anti-snake venom in a rural tertiary care teaching hospital.

Objectives: The study was carried out with the aim of evaluation of the adverse drug reaction profile of anti-snake venom serum (ASV) in a rural tertiary care hospital.

Methods: An observational study was conducted in SRTR Medical College, Ambajogai, Maharashtra, India. A total number of 296 indoor case papers of snake bite from February to September 2011 and June to August 2012 were retrieved from the record section and the antivenom reactions were assessed.

Serum lactonase and arylesterase activities in alcoholic hepatitis and hepatitis B.

Background: PON1 is an HDL-associated enzyme having antioxidant activity. PON1 is synthesized in the liver, and there is decreased synthesis of PON1 with increased lipid peroxidation. The study was carried with the aim of establishing whether chronic liver disease (CLD) produced any significant changes in serum arylesterase (AE) and lactonase activities of PON.
