Background: Inflammation suppresses cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme activity, and single-dose interleukin 6 receptor antagonists (anti-IL-6R) reverse this effect. Here, we assess the impact of continuous anti-IL-6R therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
Methods: In a clinical pharmacokinetic trial, the Basel cocktail was administered before and after 3 and 12 weeks of anti-IL-6R therapy to assess CYP enzyme activity (registered in the ClinicalTrials.

We investigated the impact of 2-[18F]FDG-PET/CT on detection rate (DR) of the primary tumor and survival in patients with suspected cancer of unknown primary tumor (CUP), comparing it to the conventional diagnostic imaging method, CT. Patients who received a tentative CUP diagnosis at Odense University Hospital from 2014-2017 were included. Patients receiving a 2-[18F]FDG-PET/CT were assigned to the 2-[18F]FDG-PET/CT group and patients receiving a CT only to the CT group.

General practitioners (GPs) in the Region of Southern Denmark were randomly allocated to a range of interventions to optimize their use of Vitamin D tests over one year. The aim of the current survey study was to investigate GPs assessment of the interventions. Using REDCap web-platform, we invited 638 GPs to participate in a survey about their experiences of guidelines, feedback reports, non-interruptive alerts, and interruptive alerts.

The objective of this pilot study was to assess the impact of a salivary gland ultrasound (SGUS) atlas for scoring parenchymal changes in Sjögren's syndrome by assessing the reliability of the scoring system (0-3), without and with the use of the SGUS atlas. Ten participants with varying experience in SGUS contributed to the reliability exercise. Thirty SGUS images of the submandibular and parotid gland with abnormalities ranging from 0 to 3 were scored using the written definitions of the OMERACT SGUS scoring system and using the SGUS atlas based on the OMERACT scoring system.

Background: The aim of this study was to examine the association between appendectomy and advanced colorectal neoplasia (aCRN) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Methods: Inflammatory bowel disease patients diagnosed in Denmark in the period 1977 to 2017 were identified from the Danish National Patient Registry. Inflammatory bowel disease patients who underwent appendectomy were matched with up to 10 IBD patients without appendectomy and followed until aCRN, death, or emigration.

Introduction: Coronary artery calcification (CAC) and especially progression in CAC is a strong predictor of acute myocardial infarction and cardiovascular mortality. Supplementation with vitamin K2 and D3 has been suggested to have a protective role in the progression of CAC. In this study, we will examine the effect of vitamins K2 and D3 in men and women with severe CAC.

Background: Delirium severity scores are gaining acceptance for measuring delirium in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the concordance between the Confusion Assessment Method for the intensive care unit (CAM-ICU)-7 and the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist (ICDSC) as delirium severity measurement tools.
Methods: This was a prospective, comparative, observational multicentre study.

Objectives: Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) is increasingly used by rheumatologists in daily clinical practice. However, MSUS is only valuable in trained hands, and assessment of trainee competences is therefore essential before independent practice. Thus, this study aimed to establish validity evidence for the EULAR and the Objective Structured Assessment of Ultrasound Skills (OSAUS) tools used for assessing MSUS competences.

Background: Among ICU patients with COVID-19, it is largely unknown how the overall outcome and resource use have changed with time, different genetic variants, and vaccination status.
Methods: For all Danish ICU patients with COVID-19 from March 10, 2020 to March 31, 2022, we manually retrieved data on demographics, comorbidities, vaccination status, use of life support, length of stay, and vital status from medical records. We compared patients based on the period of admittance and vaccination status and described changes in epidemiology related to the Omicron variant.

Background: Outcome after colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) resection has improved over time, despite increased resection rates. Hence, it's crucial to identify all patients possible to treat with curative intent. The objectives of this study were to map recurrence pattern, treatment strategy and survival depending on treatment and follow-up strategy.

Aim: Refugees face many challenges that could lead to disparity in quality of care from the health-care system compared with native Danes. These challenges could be language barriers, cultural differences, mental health co-morbidities and socio-economic status (SES). The aim of this study was to compare the 30-day mortality of refugees and native Danes after visiting the emergency department (ED) at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark.

Background: Delirium is common in critically ill patients with detrimental effects in terms of increased morbidity, mortality, costs, and human suffering. Delirium detection and management depends on systematic screening for delirium, which can be challenging to implement in clinical practice.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore how nurses in the intensive care unit perceived the use of Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU), the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit-7 (CAM-ICU-7), and Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist (ICDSC) for delirium screening of patients in the intensive care unit.

Background: Early mobilisation of mechanically ventilated patients during their stay at an intensive care unit (ICU) can improve physical recovery. Yet, an objective and specified description of physical activities while in the ICU is lacking. Therefore, our aim was to describe the objectively assessed type, quantity, and daily variation of physical activity among mechanically ventilated patients while in the ICU.

Objectives: To investigate whether ultrasound findings of major salivary glands are correlated with serological markers, autoantibodies, patient- or doctor-reported disease activity in a Danish cohort of patients with primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS).
Methods: In all, 49 patients at Odense University Hospital with pSS diagnosed according to the 2002 American-European Consensus Group (AECG) classification criteria were included. Patients were characterized using the EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (ESSDAI, score of systemic complications) and EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Patient Reported Index (ESSPRI), serologic markers, Schirmer's test and salivary test.

Falcarinol is a polyacetylene which is found in carrots and known to have anti-neoplastic properties in rodents. Research in the bioactivity of falcarinol in humans require methods for quantification of falcarinol in human serum. Here we report the development of an LC-MS/MS method and its use to measure serum falcarinol concentrations in humans following intake of a carrot product.
