Non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P) is a common congenital facial malformation with a complex, incompletely understood origin. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as pivotal regulators of gene expression, potentially shedding light on NSCL/P's etiology. This study aimed to identify critical lncRNAs and construct regulatory networks to unveil NSCL/P's underlying molecular mechanisms.

Background: Vitexicarpin (VIT), an isoflavone derived from various medicinal herbs, has shown promising anti-tumor activities against multiple cancer cells. However, the understanding of the mechanisms and potential targets of VIT in treating triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains limited.
Methods: The potential VIT targets were searched for in the Super-PRED online database, while the TNBC targets were acquired in the DisGeNET database, and the Veeny database was used to identify the VIT and TNBC targets that overlapped.

Objective: The primary pathological changes of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) include chronic synovial inflammation, bone destruction, and aggressive pannus formation on cartilage, in which angiogenesis plays a critical role. B7-H3, an important immune checkpoint molecule, represents a novel target in tumor therapy and plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. However, its biological mechanism in RA remains unclear.

Mitochondria morphology and function, and their quality control by mitophagy, are essential for heart function. We investigated whether these are influenced by time of the day (TOD), sex, and fed or fasting status, using transmission electron microscopy (EM), mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC) activity, and mito-QC reporter mice. We observed peak mitochondrial number at ZT8 in the fed state, which was dependent on the intrinsic cardiac circadian clock, as hearts from cardiomyocyte-specific BMAL1 knockout (CBK) mice exhibit different TOD responses.

Purpose: There is a particular anisometropia occurring in one eye with myopia, while the other eye has very low myopia, emmetropia, or very low hyperopia. It is unclear how the binocular axial length changes when these children wear unilateral OK lenses only in the more myopic eyes. This study investigates the changes in the axial elongation of both eyes.

DNA damage is a modification in the structure of DNA under the influence of endogenous or exogenous factors. DNA damage can cause different types of diseases and is closely related to genetic mutations, cancer, and aging. The cause of the corresponding reaction process is essential for the study of related cancers and other genetically related diseases.

Congenital craniofacial abnormalities are congenital anomalies of variable expressivity and severity with a recognizable set of abnormalities, which are derived from five identifiable primordial structures. They can occur unilaterally or bilaterally and include various malformations such as cleft lip with/without palate, craniosynostosis, and craniofacial microsomia. To date, the molecular etiology of craniofacial abnormalities is largely unknown.

Background: Tooth agenesis is a common dental anomaly that can substantially affect both the ability to chew and the esthetic appearance of patients. This study aims to identify possible genetic factors that underlie various forms of tooth agenesis and to investigate the possible molecular mechanisms through which human dental pulp stem cells may play a role in this condition.
Results: Using whole-exome sequencing of a Han Chinese family with non-syndromic tooth agenesis, a rare mutation in FGFR1 (NM_001174063.

Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) always suffer from severe abdominal pain and appear to be at high risk for colorectal cancer. Recently, the co-delivery of targeted drugs and gut microbiota has developed into an attractive strategy. A new strategy using gut microbiota fermentation to overcome the interspace diffuse resistance from the mucus layer to control drug release in inflammatory bowel sites (IBS sites) has not yet been available.

Background: In recent years, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been widely used to evaluate patients' root canal anatomy due to its high resolution and noninvasive nature. As voxel size is one of the most important parameters affecting CBCT image quality, the current study evaluated the diagnostic potential of CBCT with 4 different voxel sizes in the detection of double root canal systems and accessory canals (ACs) in permanent mandibular incisors.
Methods: A total of 106 extracted mandibular permanent incisors were collected from the dental clinics, and then were scanned by using micro-CT with a voxel size of 9 μm.
Tumor development relies on the stemness of cancer stem cells, which is regulated by environmental cues. Previous studies have shown that zyxin can inhibit the expression of genes for embryonic stem cell status. In the present study, the expression levels of zyxin protein in cancer tissues and adjacent noncancerous tissues from 73 gastric cancer patients with different clinical stages were analyzed by Western blot.

Rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (rATG) has been widely used to prevent graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). The therapeutic window of rATG is narrow, and it may increase the risk of relapse, viral reactivation, delayed immune reconstitution and GvHD when overexposed or underexposed. Therefore, a reliable method for detecting the rATG concentration in human serum by flow cytometry was established and fully validated for therapeutic drug monitoring.

Prostate cancer (PCa) refers to epithelial malignancies occurring in prostate and is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men. Flap structure-specific endonuclease 1 (FEN1) is one of the major base excise repair enzymes and is abnormally expressed in a variety of cancers, which contributes to cancer progression. Targeting FEN1 serves as a potent strategy for cancer therapy.

Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (SG) and Scutellaria rehderiana Diels (SD) belong to the same genus of Scutellaria in the Labiatae (Lamiaceae) family. SG is confirmed as the medicinal source according to the Chinese Pharmacopeia, but SD is often used as a substitute for SG due to its abundant plant resources. However, the current quality standards are far from sufficient to judge the quality differences between SG and SD.

The programmed death-1 (PD-1) pathway has been shown to deliver an inhibitory signal, and aberrant expression of the PD-1 molecule and/or its ligand programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) has been demonstrated in human diseases, while its other ligand, programmed death ligand 2 (PD-L2), has rarely been studied. Here, we investigated the expression of PD-L2 in synovial tissue and blood from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Soluble PD-L2 and inflammatory cytokine levels in serum among healthy controls and patients with RA were compared via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
