Background: The association between systolic blood pressure and all-cause mortality differs between frail and nonfrail individuals, highlighting uncertainties about the effectiveness of antihypertensive treatments in frail populations.
Methods: Using data from the SHEP trial (Systolic Hypertension in the Elderly Program), a baseline frailty index (FI), including 55 variables, was constructed. Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard models and Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to explore the association between baseline FI and the risks of stroke, cardiovascular disease, and all-cause death, as well as to examine whether the impact of antihypertensive treatment on these outcomes was modified by baseline FI.

As organic solar cells (OSCs) achieve notable advancements, a significant consensus has been highlighted that the device performance is intricately linked to the active layer morphology. With conjugated molecules being widely employed, intermolecular interactions exert substantial influence over the aggregation state and morphology formation, resulting in distinct molecular packing motifs, also known as polymorphism. This phenomenon is closely associated with processing conditions and exerts a profound impact on functional properties.

Traveling waves are universal in excitable systems; yet, the microscopic dynamics of wave propagation is inaccessible in conventional excitable systems. Here, we show that active colloids of Quincke rollers driven by a periodic electric field can form condensed excitable phases. Distinct from existing excitable media, condensed excitable colloids can be tuned reversibly between active liquids and active crystals in which two distinct waves can be excited, respectively.

The quest for stable and high-performance photocatalysts is pivotal in advancing the field of photocatalytic CO reduction. Traditional single-component semiconductors are often impeded by their inability to concurrently achieve a broad light absorption spectrum, efficient separation of photogenerated charge carriers, and enduring stability, thereby constraining their photocatalytic efficacy. In this study, we introduce an innovative hm-CN/CdS heterojunction that broadens the light absorption spectrum and significantly enhances the separation efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers.

Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS), have emerged as a generation of nonprecious catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), largely due to their theoretical hydrogen adsorption energy close to that of platinum. However, efforts to activate the basal planes of TMDs have primarily centered around strategies such as introducing numerous atomic vacancies, creating vacancy-heteroatom complexes, or applying significant strain, especially for acidic media. These approaches, while potentially effective, present substantial challenges in practical large-scale deployment.

Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Object Detection (UDA-OD) aims to adapt a model trained on a labeled source domain to an unlabeled target domain, addressing challenges posed by domain shifts. However, existing methods often face significant challenges, particularly in detecting small objects and over-relying on classification confidence for pseudo-label selection, which often leads to inaccurate bounding box localization. To address these issues, we propose a novel UDA-OD framework that leverages scale consistency (SC) and Temporal Ensemble Pseudo-Label Selection (TEPLS) to enhance cross-domain robustness and detection performance.

Traditional wound dressings, primarily centered on antimicrobial or bactericidal strategies, have inadvertently contributed to the rise of drug-resistant bacterial colonies at wound sites, thus prolonging the healing process. In this study, we developed an innovative hydrogel dressing, CMCS-PVA@CA, incorporating carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and cichoric acid (CA), specifically designed to treat skin wounds infected with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Computational biology analyses reveal that CA exerts substantial anti-virulence activity by targeting serine/threonine phosphatase (Stp1), achieving an IC of 3.
