Background: MR tractography from diffusion tensor imaging provides a non-invasive way to explore white matter pathways in the human brain. However, a challenge to extracting reliable anatomical information from these data is the use of reliable and effective clustering methodologies. In this paper, we implemented a new version of a robust unsupervised clustering method from MR tractography data using the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm.

In the perspective of selenium as an antioxidant and anti-carcinogen, so far no strong intervention trials with selenium over radiation-treated oral squamous cell carcinoma cases have been conducted, to examine the response of the disease and the subsequent biochemical alterations. In the present study, untreated oral cancer cases (Gp II) were compared with radiation-treated groups with and without selenium (Gp IIa, IIb), forward to find the trace elements and cancer biomarkers status, at a follow-up of 6 months. Severe alteration in the trace elements levels of Se, Cu, Fe, Zn, Na, K, Ca, Cl, were noticed in Gp II.

We detail a newly observed thalamocortical pathway connecting the anterior nucleus of the thalamus and the cingulate cortex not via the internal capsule but via the septal area.

The anatomical locations and sizes of acupuncture points (APs) are identified in traditional Chinese medicine by using the cun measurement method. More precise knowledge of those locations and sizes to submillimeter precision, along with their cytological characterizations, would provide significant contributions both to scientific investigations and to precise control of the practice of acupuncture. Over recent decades, researchers have come to realize that APs in the skin of rats and humans have more mast cells (MCs) than neighboring nonacupoints.

The present study aimed to determine the predictors of quality of life (QOL) of patients with advanced cancer. A cross-sectional study involving 494 patients with advanced cancer was conducted using the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale-Short Form, the Karnofsky Performance Status Scale, the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (Korean version), and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Core 30. Regression analyses showed that physical and psychological symptoms significantly predicted the patients' QOL and explained 28.

The leachate generated by the decomposition of animal carcass has been implicated as an environmental contaminant surrounding the burial site. High-throughput nucleotide sequencing was conducted to investigate the bacterial communities in leachates from the decomposition of pig carcasses. We acquired 51,230 reads from six different samples (1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 14 week-old carcasses) and found that sequences representing the phylum Firmicutes predominated.
