Background: Subclinical leaflet thrombosis (SLT) is a common complication after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Multidimensional CT (MDCT) is the main imaging mortality for the diagnosis of SLT but it enhances the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy. Our study aimed to use an innovative wearable acoustic cardiography (ACG) device to diagnose SLT as an alternative option.

Heart transplant (HT) recipients experience high rates of cardiometabolic disease. Novel therapies targeting hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and obesity, including proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin inhibitors (PCSK9i), sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists are increasingly used for cardiometabolic risk mitigation in the general population. However, limited data exist to support the use of these agents in patients who have undergone heart transplantation.

Background: Longer term outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with the SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA (S3UR) valve over its predecessors have not been reported in a national registry.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the 1-year clinical and echocardiographic outcomes of the S3UR with those of the SAPIEN 3 (S3) and SAPIEN 3 Ultra (S3U) in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons/American College of Cardiology TVT (Transcatheter Valve Therapy) Registry.
Methods: From September 2022 to March 2023, patients who underwent native TAVR with the S3UR or the S3 or S3U valve were propensity matched and compared.

In the past decade, our understanding of heart failure pathophysiology has advanced significantly, resulting in the development of new medications such as angiotensin-neprilysin inhibitors, sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors and oral soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators. Backed by positive findings from large randomized controlled trials, recommendations for their use were recently included in the 2022 AHA/ACC/HFSA guidelines and 2023 ESC guidelines for management of heart failure. Promising drugs for future heart failure treatment include agents that modulate the neurohormonal system, vasodilators, anti-inflammatory drugs, mitotropes, which improve deranged energy metabolism of the failing heart, and myotropes, which increase cardiac contractility by affecting cardiac sarcomere function.

Background: Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) affects all cardiac chambers to cause left ventricular (LV) deformation as well as left atrial (LA) remodeling and functional impairment. We investigated the associations of the LA volume index (LAVI):LV ejection fraction (LVEF) ratio with the increased risk of death, heart transplant, or LV assist device implantation (LVAD) in patients with ATTR-CM.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study involving 69 heart failure (HF) patients with ATTR-CM at an academic medical center between 1 November 2008 and 31 March 2024.

Background: Sudden unexplained death (SUD) is a devastating event in the young. Despite efforts to identify causal genetic variants, many cases remain unexplained after genetic screening. This study aimed to investigate an alternative potential contributor to SUD by studying the human methylome using the MethylationEPIC v2.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used to diagnose complications of diabetes. Artificial intelligence is technology that enables computers and machines to simulate human intelligence and solve complicated problems. In this article, we address current and likely future applications for AI to be applied to diabetes and its complications, including pharmacoadherence to therapy, diagnosis of hypoglycemia, diabetic eye disease, diabetic kidney diseases, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic foot ulcers, and heart failure in diabetes.

Importance: Occupational burnout syndrome is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a diminished sense of personal accomplishment and is prevalent among nurses. Although previous meta-analyses have explored the correlates of nurse burnout, none have estimated their association with health care quality and safety and patient morbidity and mortality.
Objective: To evaluate the magnitude and moderators of the association between nurse burnout and patient safety, patient satisfaction, and quality of care.

Carboxysomes are protein microcompartments found in cyanobacteria, whose shell encapsulates rubisco at the heart of carbon fixation in the Calvin cycle. Carboxysomes are thought to locally concentrate CO in the shell interior to improve rubisco efficiency through selective metabolite permeability, creating a concentrated catalytic center. However, permeability coefficients have not previously been determined for these gases, or for Calvin-cycle intermediates such as bicarbonate ([Formula: see text]), 3-phosphoglycerate, or ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate.

Despite the systemic impact of both cancer and the associated immune response, immuno-PET is predominantly centered on assessment of the immune milieu within the tumor microenvironment. The aim of this study was to assess the value of [F]F-AraG PET imaging as a noninvasive method for evaluation of system-wide immune status of patients with non-small cell lung cancer before starting immunotherapy. Eleven patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer were imaged with [F]F-AraG before starting immunotherapy.

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the treatment of choice for coronary artery disease. The traditional method of performing CABG via a full sternotomy has its drawbacks, including increased postoperative morbidity, a higher incidence of complications, and extended hospitalizations. Although minimally invasive and robotic-assisted technology offer promising alternatives, they have not gained wide acceptance, largely because of the limited amount of literature supporting hybrid and robotic-assisted CABG.

Background: On legacy 2D positron emission tomography (PET) systems utilizing a 50 mL/min Rb-82 profile, test-retest precision of quantitative perfusion is ∼10%. It is unclear whether Rb-82 infusion rate significantly impacts quantitative perfusion and/or image quality on modern analog 3D PET-CT systems. We aimed to determine whether the Rb-82 infusion profile significantly impacts test-retest precision of quantitative perfusion, perfusion metrics, and/or image quality on a modern analog 3D PET-CT scanner.

Introduction: Automated CT perfusion (aCTP) is commonly used to select patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (aLVO) for endovascular treatment (EVT). The equivalence of visually assessed Non-contrast CT Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Scores (ASPECTS) and aCTP based selection in predicting favorable functional outcomes remains uncertain.
Patients And Methods: Retrospective multicenter study of adult aLVO patients from the Swiss Stroke Registry (2014-2021) treated with EVT or best medical treatment 6-24 h after stroke onset.

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a hypersensitivity disease caused by (), prevalent in persons with cystic fibrosis (CF) or asthma. In ABPA, proteases drive a T-helper cell-2 (Th2)-mediated allergic immune response leading to inflammation that contributes to permanent lung damage. Corticosteroids and antifungals are the mainstays of therapies for ABPA.

For centuries, aging was considered inevitable and immutable. Geroscience provides the conceptual framework to shift this focus toward a new view that regards aging as an active biological process, and the biological age of an individual as a modifiable entity. Significant steps forward have been made toward the identification of biomarkers for and measures of biological age, yet knowledge gaps in geroscience are still numerous.

Background: In 2019, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for low-risk patients with symptomatic severe tricuspid aortic stenosis. However, bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) patients were included only in single-arm registries of pivotal low-risk TAVR trials, resulting in limited data for this subgroup.
Methods: The LRT (Low Risk TAVR) trial was an investigator-initiated, prospective, multicenter study and the first FDA-approved investigational device exemption trial to evaluate the feasibility of TAVR with balloon-expandable or self-expanding valves in low-risk patients with symptomatic severe BAV stenosis.
