Symptomatic uterine leiomyomatosis with intracaval and intracardiac invasion: Video case report.

Background: Fibroid is the most prevalent benign tumor of the female genital tract. Intravenous and intracardiac leiomyomatosis (IVL and ICLM, respectively) are rare complications that present with symptoms of pulmonary thromboembolism and heart failure and whose etiology, despite controversial, is a direct vascular invasion by a primary uterine leiomyoma.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 31-year-old female patient with a previous history of pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea, whose ultrasound showed an enlarged and heterogeneous uterus.

AJCC/UICC staging system 8th edition (TNM8) included depth of invasion (DOI) as part of T staging and stage III has become a heterogeneous group of lesions, composed of patients with larger DOI and/or width. Additionally, stage III includes N1, regardless of the primary tumor width or DOI.

Background: Acute cholecystitis is one of the most common causes of acute abdomen. Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard treatment, still burdened by a risk of intraoperative biliary duct injury. An alternative strategy to manage patients with severe acute cholecystitis is the percutaneous gallbladder drainage (PGBD).

Ultrasonographic Measurement of Torsional Side Difference in Proximal Humerus Fractures and Humeral Shaft Fractures: Theoretical Background with Technical Notes for Clinical Implementation.

Both nonoperative and operative treatment of proximal humerus fractures (PHF) and humeral shaft fractures can result in torsional side differences. Several measurement methods are available to determine torsional malalignment. While conventional X-ray or computed tomography would entail additional radiation exposure for the patient, and while magnetic resonance imaging might be associated with higher costs and is not suitable in cases of surgically treated fractures due to metal-induced artifacts, the sonographic measurement of humeral torsion represents a readily available and quickly performable measurement method without radiation exposure.

Introduction: The Serbian National Training Programme for minimally invasive colorectal surgery (LapSerb) was introduced to implement laparoscopic colorectal surgery across Serbia. The programme aimed to accelerate training of established colorectal surgeons through a competency-based programme. Purpose: The aim of the study was to analyse patient and injury characteristics and the effects of weekend admissions on mortality rate and outcome after moderate and severe traumatic brain injuries.

Methods: This is an observational cohort study based on data from a prospectively maintained regional trauma registry in South Western Norway. Patients with moderate and severe traumatic brain injury admitted between January 1st, 2004 and December 31st, 2019 were included in this study.

Measuring the Quality of Life in Patients with Chronic Venous Disease before and Short Term after Surgical Treatment-A Comparison between Different Open Surgical Procedures.

Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a common pathology that significantly affects the quality of life (QoL) of patients. Methods: QoL was assessed in 317 patients diagnosed with CVD who underwent surgeries, including cryostripping (n = 113), high ligation and stripping (HL&S, n = 96), and phlebectomies (n = 108). CVD symptoms and QoL were assessed before surgery and 2 weeks after surgery using the following questionnaires: CIVIQ-20, VAS, Eq-5D, PHQ-9 and GAD-9.

Venous Thromboembolism After Interventions on the Ovarian Veins in Patients With Pelvic Venous Disorder.

Background: Ovarian vein resection (OVR) and ovarian vein embolization (OVE) are effective options for treating patients with pelvic venous disorder (PeVD). However, due to in an abrupt cessation of blood flow in the ovarian veins (OVs), these interventions can be complicated by pelvic vein thrombosis (PVT). The aim of this study was to assess venous thromboembolism (VTE) rates after OVR and OVE in patients with PeVD.

Bilateral axillary node calcifications: a case report and revisiting causes.

A 48-year woman was found to have bilateral axillary nodal microcalcifications on screening mammogram; a new finding compared to the prior mammogram done about 8 years ago. Combining the new finding with the amorphous and fine morphology of the microcalcifications, deemed it suspicious. In the absence of a definite benign cause, that could be attributed to this finding, biopsy was performed.

Background: The role of advanced functional imaging techniques in prediction of pathological risk categories of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate classical CT features, CT-perfusion and magnetic-resonance-diffusion-weighted-imaging (MR-DWI)-related parameters in predicting the metastatic risk of gastric GIST. Patients and methods: Sixty-two patients with histologically proven GIST who underwent CT perfusion and MR-DWI using multiple b-values were prospectively included.

Retrospective Analysis of Complications After Gonadal Vein Interventions for Pelvic Venous Disorder.

Introduction: To investigate and compare complications after gonadal vein embolization (GVE) with coils and gonadal vein resection (GVR) in patients with pelvic venous disorder (PeVD).

Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study included 277 female patients with PeVD who underwent GVE with coils (n = 150) or GVR (n = 122) in the period from 2000 to 2020. The participants were selected from a cohort of 4975 patients with chronic pelvic pain (CPP), of whom 1107 suffered from the PeVD-related CPP and 305 underwent surgical or endovascular intervention on the gonadal veins.

Aim Of Study: Despite early surgery, many boys with bilateral cryptorchidism at surgery have a reduced number of germ cells per tubular cross-section (G/T) in testicular biopsies and/or low inhibin-B with no elevated follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) as expected based on a normal gonadotropin feed-back mechanism. Such boys have a high risk of later infertility because of insufficient gonadotropin stimulation and may benefit from adjuvant hormonal treatment. Testicular biopsies are not always wanted or accepted.

Minimally invasive off-pump anaortic coronary artery bypass (MACAB).

Background: Minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass has enabled coronary artery bypass graft to compete with the appeal of less invasive percutaneous coronary procedures. Favorable results of coronary artery bypass surgery performed without the use of cardiopulmonary bypass and without touching the aorta (anOPCAB) have enabled the development and use of minimally invasive methods.

Methods: Between 2016 and 2021, 112 patients underwent multivessel coronary bypass surgery performed using a minimally invasive method through a small thoracotomy in the left chest with off-pump, anaortic, and all-arterial grafts (Minimally Invasive Off-Pump Anaortic Coronary Artery Bypass [MACAB]).

The Challenges of Colorectal Cancer Surgery during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Romania: A Three-Year Retrospective Study.

The predictions on the influence of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on access to medical services in Romania predicted a 35% drop in oncological hospitalizations in 2020 compared to the previous decade, raising the hypothesis that patients with colorectal cancer can become indirect victims of the ongoing pandemic. Therefore, the aim of the current research was to observe how the COVID-19 pandemic influenced colorectal cancer surgery in Romania, to determine the level of addressability towards specialized care, to compare the cancer staging between the pandemic and pre-pandemic periods, and to observe the risk factors for disease progression. This retrospective study was spread over three years, respectively, from March 2019 to March 2022, and included a total of 198 patients with a history of colorectal cancer surgery.

Homeopathic Manganum in the Management of Post Dural Puncture Headache, A Case Series.

Post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) is a functional condition caused by disruption of the dural membrane with low cerebrospinal fluid pressure, affecting 4% to 11% of the patients who undergo procedures where the spinal canal is purposefully punctured. It has a significant impact on the quality of life of those affected. We present 12 cases diagnosed with PDPH, unresponsive to usual treatment, who were treated with classical homeopathy.

Ectopic schwannoma of the sellar region in a 1-year-old child: A case report and review of literature.

Background: Schwannomas are cranial and spinal nerves' sheath tumors accounting for up to 8% of all intracranial neoplasms. Although typical intracranial schwannomas originate from Schwann cells surrounding cranial nerves, ectopic schwannomas are not associated with a known cranial nerve or have an unknown origin. The location of schwannomas may impose clinical challenges.
