Hallux rigidus (HR) is a painful condition associated with degenerative arthritis of the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP1) joint, leading to a progressive loss of dorsiflexion. The etiological factors leading to the development of the condition are not yet fully understood in the literature. When the hindfoot is aligned in excessive valgus, the medial border of the foot tends to roll over, which brings to increased stress on the medial side of the MTP1 joint, and consequently on the first ray (FR), thus potentially influencing the development of HR deformity.

Purpose: To evaluate the impact of preoperative patient characteristics and flow rate on failure, early postoperative complications, and voiding in patients who underwent transvaginal tension-free vaginal tape-obturator (TVT-O) treatment for uncomplicated stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent TVT-O for SUI at 3 Italian centres. The exclusion criteria were predominant voiding and storage symptoms suggestive of detrusor overactivity, the presence of grade >1 urogenital prolapse, previous pelvic radiotherapy or other clinical contraindications for surgical procedures, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, and collagen diseases.

Achilles tendinopathy is a degenerative, not an inflammatory, condition. It is prevalent in athletes involved in running sports. A systematic literature review on Achilles tendon tendinopathy has been performed according to the intrinsic (age, sex, body weight, tendon temperature, systemic diseases, muscle strength, flexibility, previous injuries and anatomical variants, genetic predisposition and blood supply) and extrinsic risk factors (drugs and overuse), which can cause tendon suffering and degeneration.

Acrylic bone cement has had for years an important role in orthopedic surgery. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) has been extended from the ophthalmological and dental fields to orthopedics, as acrylic cement used for fixation of prosthetic implants, for remodeling osteoporotic, neoplastic and vertebral fractures repair. The PMMA bone cement is a good carrier for sustained antibiotic release in the site of infection.

Background: Total shoulder arthroplasty infections are rare, depending on the use of antibiotic prophylaxis, the local blood supply, the axial load gradient and the proximal location of the shoulder. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of treatment for infections in total shoulder arthroplasty and septic arthritis using a preformed antibiotic-loaded spacer.

Materials And Methods: Seven shoulders in as many patients were treated for infected arthroplasty or septic arthritis without previous surgery.
