Purpose: To assess the effect of anterior chamber depth on corneal endothelium using specular microscopy following uneventful phacoemulsification among cataract patients with different axial lengths.
Methods: The study was conducted in a quasi-experimental design including 300 eyes of 300 patients with grade three age-related nuclear cataract distributed equally based on their axial length into three equal groups. All eyes had grade three nuclear cataract.

Background: Minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy has gained widespread acceptance among hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons due to its demonstrated advantages in perioperative outcomes compared to the conventional open approach. This meta-analysis, along with trial sequential analysis, aimed to compare the outcomes of robotic pancreatoduodenectomy and laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy based on the current available evidence.
Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted from inception to July 2024.

Introduction And Aims: Blood loss is a common side-effect in orthognathic surgery. Deliberated hypotensive anaesthesia can reduce blood loss. The purpose was to evaluate the effect of add-on dexmedetomidine compared with the usual hypotensive drug bolus on blood loss and patient outcomes in orthognathic surgery.

Necrotizing pancreatitis often demands intervention; contemporary management is directed by the step-up approach. Timing of intervention and specific approach is best directed by a multi-disciplinary team including advanced endosocpists, interventional radiologists, and surgeons with interest and experience managing this complex problem. The intervention is often a combination of percutaneous drainage, transluminal endoscopic approaches, and surgical debridement (minimally invasive or open).

Surgical management of pancreas cancer is complex, including the timing of surgery, surgical approach, intraoperative techniques, and postoperative management, which are reviewed in detail in this manuscript. Ultimately, referral to a high-volume pancreatic surgeon or pancreatic surgery center is critical to ensuring appropriate short-term and long-term outcomes.

Objective: To investigate the safety, feasibility and acceptability of the Neurofenix platform for upper-limb rehabilitation in acute and subacute stroke.
Design: A feasibility randomised controlled trial with a parallel process evaluation.
Setting: Acute Stroke Unit and participants' homes (London, UK).
Objectives: National selection for higher surgical specialty training (HST) in the UK is a high-stakes gatekeeping assessment. If barriers, such as differential attainment, exist at HST selection for some groups and not others, then this will have a significant and lasting impact on trainees' career progression and the diversity of the workforce, which should reflect the population it provides care for. The objective of this study was to characterise the relationship between candidate sociodemographic factors and performance at National Selection for HST in the UK.

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons General Thoracic Surgery Database (STS GTSD) remains the largest and most comprehensive audited thoracic surgical database in the world. As the STS GTSD grows to nearly 1 million cases, the pulmonary resection for cancer and esophagectomy short-term risk models have been refined to provide participants with benchmarked performance reports to facilitate quality improvement efforts. New for 2025 will be the development of long-term risk models and the online release of both short- and long-term risk calculators.

There is substantial variation in access to transplantation across the United States that is not entirely explained by the availability of donor organs. Barriers to transplantation and variation in care among patients with end-stage organ disease exist prior to patients' placement on a transplant waiting list as well as following waitlist placement. However, there are currently no national data available to examine rates and variations in key care processes related to pre-listing, including transplant referral, evaluation, or candidate selection.

Background: Minimum joint space width (mJSW) is an important continuous quantitative metric of osteoarthritis progression in the knee. The purpose of this study was to develop an automated measurement algorithm for mJSW in the medial and lateral compartments of the knee that can flexibly handle native knees as well as knees after arthroplasty.
Methods: We developed an end-to-end algorithm consisting of a deep learning segmentation model plus a computer vision algorithm to measure mJSW in the medial and lateral compartments of the knee.

Bone defects caused by osteoporosis, infection, diabetes, post-tumor resection, and nonunion often cause severe pain and markedly increase morbidity and mortality, which remains a significant challenge for orthopedic surgeons. The precise local treatments to these pathological complications is essential to avoid poor or failed bone repair. Hydrogel formulations serve as injectable innovative platforms that overcome microenvironmental obstacles and as delivery systems for controlled release of various bioactive substances to bone defects in a targeted manner.

Purpose: Reduction and intraoperative maintenance of fracture fragments during minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) pose technical difficulties, particularly when the interposed fragment is angulated, prompting surgeons to attempt reduction due to concerns about nonunion or malunion. We aimed to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of MIPO for mid-shaft clavicular fractures based on the reduced status of the interposed fragments.
Method: Fifty-seven patients who underwent MIPO for acute mid-shaft Robinson type 2B clavicular fractures were divided into two groups based on the alignment of the interposed fracture fragment.

Objectives: Mid-urethral sling (MUS) insertion is the gold standard approach to treat stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and adaptable single-incision mini-slings (SIMSs) aim to reduce complications. A previous study of our team has found that SIMSs were comparable to transobturator slings in cure rates after 24 months of follow-up. This study aims to compare the rates of cure, complications and re-intervention of both slings over a long-term follow-up of 5 years.

Background: Microaggressions are pervasive in clinical and academic environments, often unnoticed by those unaware of the privileges and power dynamics tied to socially constructed hierarchies. These subtle manifestations of bias and prejudice are typically directed toward historically marginalized individuals and groups (HMIGs), contributing to a toxic culture that undermines interprofessional communication, collaboration, and healthcare delivery.
Purpose: This article aims to explore the concept of microaggressions and their impact on healthcare environments.

Background: In difficult colorectal cases, surgeons may opt for a hand-assisted laparoscopic (HALS) colectomy or attempt a laparoscopic surgery that may require an unplanned conversion to open (LCOS). We aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of these 2 types of surgeries.
Methods: Colectomies for acute diverticulitis with a HALS or LCOS surgery were selected from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) 2022 Targeted Colectomy Database.
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance and evolution of Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT; OpenAI) as a resource for shoulder and elbow surgery information by assessing its accuracy on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons shoulder-elbow self-assessment questions. We hypothesized that both ChatGPT models would demonstrate proficiency and that there would be significant improvement with progressive iterations.
Materials And Methods: A total of 200 questions were selected from the 2019 and 2021 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons shoulder-elbow self-assessment questions.
