Aspiration of foreign bodies into the tracheobronchial tree is extremely rare in adults without an underlying predisposing factor. A high index of suspicion is the most important factor leading to a diagnosis of tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration. Unless the patients give a clear history of aspiration, a foreign body may remain occult for years.

We described the case of a 36-year-old Turkish female with an extralobar pulmonary sequestration who suffered from chest and back pain for five years without any evidence of pulmonary infection. A chest X-ray showed an area of opacity behind the cardiac silhouette in the lower area of the left hemithorax. A CT scan of the thorax with intravenous contrast showed a 9 x 7 cm in size ovoid mass with necrosis in the lower left lobe.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to compare single-pass needle and multiple-pass coaxial needle systems and to evaluate the value of immediate cytological assessment during the procedure in the diagnosis of lung cancer with CT-guided transthoracic fine-needle aspiration.
Methodology: One hundred and forty-three consecutive patients who underwent CT-guided transthoracic fine-needle aspiration were divided into three groups. In the first group (group A, 48 patients), a single-pass needle was used for aspiration, but immediate cytological examination was not performed.
