Background: Many older people with comorbidities encounter emergency or life-threatening situations, but the response is often neglected or delayed, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality rates. Community preparedness to reduce the impact of emergency crises on older people is essential. This study aimed to determine the effect of an emergency scenario-based training program (ESBTP) for elderly care on the knowledge, self-confidence, and competency of volunteer caregivers in a rural Thai community.

Aim: To examine the influence of clinical and demographic factors on self-care behaviour and hospitalization rates among patients with coronary heart disease awaiting coronary artery bypass grafting.
Background: Appropriate self-care behaviour can improve the management of patients with coronary heart disease and reduce hospitalization rates among those awaiting coronary artery bypass graft surgery. However, little is known about the influence of clinical and demographic factors on self-care or hospitalizations in this population.

Resistance to the antimalarial drug artemisinin (ART) has emerged in Greater Mekong Subregion. The molecular marker predominantly used to identify ART resistance is the C580Y mutation in Pfkelch13 of Plasmodium falciparum. Rapid and accurate detection of ART resistance in the field is necessary to guide malaria containment and elimination interventions.

Background: Streptococcus pneumoniae carriage is a prerequisite for clinical infections and is used to make public health decisions on vaccine licensure. Pneumococcal carriage data among high-risk Thai adults are needed before national vaccine program introduction. The association between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and pneumococcal carriage were also investigated.

The aim of this study was to report the success of a clindamycin graded challenge. The patient was a 39-year-old human immunodeficiency virus-infected male with toxoplasmic encephalitis (TE) with a history of trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX) and clindamycin allergy. He developed a reaction during TMP/SMX desensitization.

Objective: This study aimed to assess whether the short-term use of macrolide antibiotics during hospitalization can reduce in-hospital all-cause mortality compared to non-macrolide treatment in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD).
Methods: A propensity score (PS) matching analysis was performed using retrospective data from the admission records of AECOPD patients in the medical general ward and medical intensive care unit of a tertiary care center between October 2015 and September 2018. The multivariable Cox proportional hazard model was performed to eliminate residual confounding after the PS analysis.

A quasi-experimental study was conducted on the implementation of locally developed clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for empirical antibiotic (ATB) therapy of common infections (bacteremia, urinary tract infection (UTI), pneumonia) in the hospitals from January 2019 to December 2020. The CPGs were developed using data from patients with these infections at individual hospitals. Relevant CPG data pre- and post-implementation were collected and compared.

Aims: Engaging in self-care is an important aspect of the prevention and management of coronary heart disease (CHD), the leading cause of premature death in Thailand. As no validated tool exists to measure self-care in Thai people with CHD, we translated and examined the psychometric properties of the Self-Care of Coronary Heart Disease Inventory Version 3 (SC-CHDI-V3) in a Thai population.
Methods And Results: The SC-CHDI-V3 was translated into Thai using the standard forward and backward translation procedure for self-care instruments.

The types of β-thalassemia mutations, α-thalassemia interactions, and Hb F-associated SNPs have been described in association with variable disease phenotypes. This study aimed to determine the updated spectrum of β-thalassemia mutations and evaluate the contribution of primary and secondary genetic modifiers and SNPs to disease severity, age at onset, and predicted life expectancy in southern Thai β-thalassemia patients. A total of 181 β-thalassemia patients were enrolled and 135 β-thalassemia/Hb E patients without α-thalassemia interactions were divided into three categories according to disease severity, age at onset, and predicted life expectancy.

Background: Intravenous indomethacin has been used in infants for many years as the pharmacological closure of ductus arteriosus, but the incidence, risk, and risk factors of acute kidney injury (AKI) among infants treated with indomethacin, were still scarce.
Objectives: To determine the incidence, risk, and risk factors of AKI among infants treated with indomethacin (exposed group) for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure compared with the matched non-exposed infants.
Methods: A matched retrospective cohort study of infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of Songklanagarind Hospital from January 2003 to December 2018 was performed.

The Global Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (GLASS) is one of the pillars of the global action plan on antimicrobial resistance launched by the World Health Organization in 2015. This study was conducted to determine the feasibility and benefits of GLASS as a component of antimicrobial stewardship strategies in three provincial hospitals in Thailand. Data on the types of bacteria isolated and their antibiotic susceptibility during January-December 2019 and January-April 2020 were retrieved from the microbiology laboratory of each participating hospital.

Background: Data are scarce regarding the usefulness of a pharmaceutical therapy-related quality of life measure including the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measure of Pharmaceutical Therapy for Quality of Life (PROMPT-QoL), for providing pharmaceutical care.
Aim: To evaluate the impact of the PROMPT-QoL on identifying drug-related problems (DRPs), physicians' acceptance of pharmacist's recommendations on the DRP resolution, and clinical and quality of life outcomes.
Method: A single-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted at a tertiary public hospital in Thailand from October 2019 to May 2020.

Various types of botulinum toxin (BoNT) have been studied to treat cervical dystonia (CD). Although high-dose BoNT has proven efficacy, it increases the risk of adverse events. For this reason, this study was planned to identify the non-inferiority efficacy, tolerability, and safety of low-dose neubotulinum toxin A (Neu-BoNT-A) versus low-dose abobotulinum toxin A (Abo-BoNT-A) in CD treatment.

Background: Acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) is a common and deteriorating event leading to in-hospital morbidity and mortality. Identification of predictors for in-hospital mortality of AECOPD patients could aid clinicians in identifying patients with a higher risk of death during their hospitalisation.
Objective: To explore potential prognostic indicators associated with in-hospital mortality of AECOPD patients.
