Patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) who achieve a pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) typically have a good prognosis. An early and accurate prediction of the treatment response, i.e.

Purpose: Synchronous peritoneal metastasis (S-PM) is considered a poor prognostic factor for colorectal cancer (CRC) and there is no nomogram to predict the survival of these patients. In this study, we aimed to use a multicenter data to identify the factors associated with S-PM of CRC to construct a nomogram for predicting the overall survival (OS) of these patients.
Methods: CRC patients with S-PM from two medical centers were enrolled between September 2007 and June 2017.

The combination of preoperative progressive pneumoperitoneum (PPP) and botulinum toxin type A (BTA) in adjuvant treatment of large parastomal hernia (LPH) has not been reported in the previous literature. From February 2018 to June 2019, 16 patients were diagnosed with LPH in our hospital were included in this study. All patients received PPP and BTA treatment to expand abdominal volume and extend abdominal muscle before surgery.

Colorectal cancer (CRC), the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world, has a high mortality rate. In recent decades, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been proven to exert an important effect on CRC growth. However, the CTBP1-AS2 expression and function in CRC are largely unknown.

Recently, circular RNA was reported to be a significant participant in the development of tumorigenesis, including colorectal cancer. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the precise role of circ-keratin 6C (circ-KRT6C) in colorectal cancer progression. The relative expression levels of circ-KRT6C, microRNA-485-3p (miR-485-3p), and programmed cell death receptor ligand 1 (PDL1) were analyzed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot assays.

Background: The transsacrococcygeal (TSC) approach in rectal gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) resection is clinically challenging and controversial, and we evaluated its value in the present study.
Methods: We enrolled patients who underwent rectal GIST resection by the TSC approach during 2008-2018. The clinicopathological index, surgical outcome, and prognosis were analysed.

Radiomics refers to the extraction of a large amount of image information from medical images, which can provide decision support for clinicians. In this study, we developed and validated a radiomics-based nomogram to predict the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC). A total of 381 patients with colorectal cancer (primary cohort: = 242; validation cohort: = 139) were enrolled and radiomic features were extracted from the vein phase of preoperative computed tomography (CT).

SRY-box transcription factors (SOXs) are effective inducers for the formation of stem-like phenotypes. As a member of SOX family, SOX9 (SRY-box transcription factor 9) has been reported to be highly expressed and exert oncogenic functions in multiple human cancers. In this study, we hypothesized that SOX9 could regulate the function of cancer stem/initiating cells (CSCs) to further facilitate the progression of colorectal cancer (CRC).

Aim: Immune-related genes are associated with the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of an immune-related gene signature (IRGS) in predicting the prognosis of early-stage CRC patients.
Methods: In total, 309 CRC patients were selected for the identification of prognostic IRGS using the CIT/GSE39582 microarray dataset.

Alterations in ROS metabolism and redox signaling are often observed in cancer cells and play a significant role in tumor development and drug resistance. However, the mechanisms by which redox alterations impact cellular sensitivity to anticancer drugs remain elusive. Here we have identified the mitochondrial isoform of thioredoxin reductase 3 (mtTXNRD3), through RT-PCR microarray screen, as a key molecule that confers drug resistance to sorafenib and other clinical anticancer agents.

We investigated the prognostic significance of Nudix hydrolase 1 (NUDT1) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). NUDT1 mRNA and protein levels were significantly higher in HCC tissues than normal liver tissues. The level of NUDT1 expression correlated with tumor grade, stage, size, differentiation, degree of vascular invasion, overall survival (OS), and disease-free survival (DFS) in HCC patients.

Background: Chemoresistance is one of the main obstacles in the therapy of human cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Long non-coding RNA heart and neural crest derivatives expressed 2-antisense RNA 1 (lncRNA HAND2-AS1) has been demonstrated to be associated with CRC. However, the function of HAND2-AS1 in 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) resistance of CRC remains unclear.

Increasing evidence has depicted the correlation between serous ovarian carcinoma prognosis and immune signature. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop a robust prognostic immune-related gene pairs (IRGPs) signature for estimating overall survival (OS) of HGSOC.

Background: Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a commonly used biomarker in colorectal cancer. However, controversy exists regarding the insufficient prognostic value of preoperative serum CEA alone in rectal cancer. Here, we combined preoperative serum CEA and the maximum tumor diameter to correct the CEA level, which may better reflect the malignancy of rectal cancer.

Molecular subtyping of cancer is a critical step towards more individualized therapy and provides important biological insights into cancer heterogeneity. Although gene expression signature-based classification has been widely demonstrated to be an effective approach in the last decade, the widespread implementation has long been limited by platform differences, batch effects, and the difficulty to classify individual patient samples. Here, we describe a novel supervised cancer classification framework, deep cancer subtype classification (DeepCC), based on deep learning of functional spectra quantifying activities of biological pathways.
