This case report demonstrates an excellent outcome in a child with acute necrotizing encephalitis that was likely associated with the post-infectious SARS-CoV-2. The aim of this report is to emphasize that early diagnosis and initiation of immunotherapy treatment may yield good outcome, particularly with the use of tocilizumab and high-dose methylprednisolone. Post immunotherapy, significant neurological improvement was seen through the gradual improvement of Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 6 to GCS score of 12 within three weeks and subsequently acquired almost full neurological function with minimally dependent activity of daily living (ADL) at eight weeks in the post-treatment follow-up.

The Fate of Coracoid Graft after Latarjet Procedure: Arthroscopic and Open Findings of Graft Union and Glenoid Remodelling.

J Coll Physicians Surg Pak

October 2022

Department of Orthopaedics, Sunway Medical Center, Jalan Lagoon Selatan, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

Successful Latarjet procedures depend on many factors including graft union and subsequent restoration of the glenoid surface. Coracoid graft union has been studied; however, remodelling of the glenoid has not been studied extensively. We present two Latarjet cases in which coracoid screws were removed due to hardware issues, at 12 months postoperatively in one patient and at six months in another.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of a phosphate mobile app (PMA), MyKidneyDiet-Phosphate Tracker ©2019, on hemodialysis (HD) patients with hyperphosphatemia. A multicenter, open-label, randomized controlled trial design allowed randomization of patients with hyperphosphatemia to either the usual care group (UG; receiving a single dietitian-led session with an education booklet) or the PMA group (PG). Thirty-three patients in each intervention group completed the 12-week study.

Hyperphosphatemia afflicts end-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, contributing to comorbidities and mortality. Management strategies are dialysis, phosphate binder, and limiting dietary phosphate intake, but treatment barriers are poor patient compliance and low health literacy arising from low self-efficacy and lack of educational resources. This study describes developing and validating a phosphate mobile application (PMA).

Changing epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori in Asia.

J Dig Dis

November 2008

Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Sunway Medical Center, Selangor, Malaysia.

As in developed societies, the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori has declined rapidly in Asia. This has been shown in both seroprevalence-based and endoscopy-based studies. While the decline in the incidence of gastric cancer has now been observed, a decrease in peptic ulcer disease has not been so clearly evident.

Background And Aim: The role of Helicobacter pylori (HP) in non-ulcer dyspepsia is debatable. Eradicating HP will help a small group of non-ulcer dyspeptic patients. However, it is unclear which subgroup of patients will benefit from eradication therapy.

Background And Aims: There is a geographic variation in Helicobacter pylori (HP) genotypes and virulence factors. Cytotoxin associated genes A (cagA) and E (cagE), and certain vacuolating cytotoxin (vacA) genotypes are associated with peptic ulcer disease (PUD). There is also a different prevalence of PUD among different ethnic groups in Malaysia.
