Aim: To carry out an exhaustive bibliometric analysis of the existing literature on endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), with a view to comparing this with the trend in external DCR.

Methods: A total of 1,230 publications on endoscopic DCR and 1,036 on external DCR were retrieved from the Web of Science databases and analyzed. Data on publication types, indexing categories, journal and publisher contributions, temporal trends, authorship networks, frequently used keywords, and country-level contributions were evaluated.

Purpose: To compare the Scheimpflug-Placido Topographer (SP-T; Sirius) and anterior-segment Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography (asSS-OCT; ANTERİON) for high order corneal aberrations in healthy subjects and patients diagnosed with stage 1 and 2 keratoconus.

Methods: The 125 eyes of 125 patients were included in the study and were divided into four groups based on their stage of keratoconus (KC) and the presence or absence of corneal cross-linking (CXL). The first group (KC1 group, n = 33) consisted of patients with stage 1 KC who underwent CXL, while the second group (ncKC1 group, n = 33) comprised patients with stage 1 KC who did not receive CXL.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of topical citicoline, vitamin B12 and hyaluronic acid (OMK2 eye drops; Omikron Italia Srl, Italy) on the healing of corneal nerve after corneal cross-linking (CXL) treatment in patients with keratoconus (KC).

Methods: A total of 44 eyes of 22 patients with KC who underwent CXL were included in this prospective study. After CXL, one eye of these patients received OMK2 eye drop and standard post-CXL treatment (OMK2 group), while the fellow eye received only standard post-CXL treatment (control group).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the choroidal vascular parameters in keratoconus (KC) patients and their relationship to eye topography.
  • Researchers analyzed 90 KC patients grouped by severity and compared them to 29 patients without KC, focusing on choroidal microvascular density and vascularity indices.
  • Results indicated a decrease in specific retinal nerve fiber thickness and choroidal vascularity in advanced KC patients, along with a weak negative correlation between choroidal vascularity and keratometry measurements.

Vascular changes of the peripapillary choroidal area in the thyroid orbitopathy.

Int Ophthalmol

July 2024

Department of Ophthalmology, Division of Oculoplastic, Orbital, and Lacrimal Surgery, Erciyes University Medical Faculty, Kayseri, Türkiye.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore changes in the peripapillary choroidal vascular structure in patients with thyroid orbitopathy (TO), comparing those with active and inactive forms of the condition to healthy controls.
  • It found significant reductions in various choroidal vascular indices in both active and inactive TO patients compared to controls, particularly noted in the nasal and temporal areas.
  • The findings suggest that the horizontal areas of the choroidal structure are more sensitive indicators of changes due to TO, with the inferior quadrant being the first affected in active cases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how lipid profiles and thiol-disulfide homeostasis relate to cognitive impairment, fatigue, and sleep disorders in multiple sclerosis patients.
  • Researchers used various assessment tools to evaluate cognitive functions, fatigue levels, and sleep quality, while also analyzing blood samples for lipid levels and specific enzyme activities.
  • The results showed no link between dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein and the patients' physical or cognitive decline, but indicated that changes in thiol-disulfide balance could be connected to cognitive dysfunction.

Objective: Galectins (Gal), which have been linked with inflammatory response in the central nervous system, may play an important role in the pathogenesis of bipolar disorder. In this study, we investigated whether serum Gal-1 and Gal-3 levels are related to bipolar disorder.

Methods: Thirty-six patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder were included.

Optic neuritis frequently occurs during the clinical course of multiple sclerosis (MS). In this condition, demyelination of the optic nerve occurs, which electrophysiologically causes a delay in P100 wave latency. Sensitive cholesterol homeostasis is critical for the formation of the myelin sheath and for myelin to become functionally mature.

Introduction: Unveiling the dynamic penumbra region represents another crucial stage in treating individuals with ischemic strokes. Our objective was to explore how collateral blood flow assessments using multiphasic (triphasic) CT angiography (mpCTA) and CT perfusion (CTP) examinations correlate with the expansion of infarcted areas and disability levels in patients with middle cerebral artery (MCA) M1 and M2 occlusion.

Methods: The research was carried out as a prospective, descriptive, case series study.

Article Synopsis
  • * Results showed decreased peripapillary vascular density and lamina cribrosa thickness (LCT) in TO patients, particularly those with dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON), but retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) did not show significant differences among groups.
  • * IV MTP treatment improved LCT and best-corrected visual acuity in patients, while other measured factors like intraocular pressure and proptosis also decreased, suggesting beneficial effects of the treatment

This study aims to examine the plasma concentrations of NGAL and other inflammatory parameters, including TNF-α, IL-1β, and IFN-γ, in schizophrenia patients and healthy volunteers. It also investigates potential associations between these biomarkers and symptom severity in schizophrenia and the utility of NGAL as a potential diagnostic and monitoring biomarker for schizophrenia. The study included 49 drug-naive schizophrenia patients (DNS), 59 patients with schizophrenia in remission (REM) on antipsychotic treatment, and 58 healthy volunteers (HC).

  • On February 6, southeastern Turkey and parts of Syria experienced two significant earthquakes, measuring magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5, affecting around 14 million people and resulting in severe trauma.
  • The study focused on assessing acute stress disorder (ASD) in adolescents seeking help after the earthquakes, utilizing psychiatric interviews and a stress survey to evaluate symptoms.
  • Findings revealed that 81.6% of participants were diagnosed with ASD, with factors like paternal education level and the adolescents' request for help being significant predictors of the disorder.

Introduction: Attachment style has been associated with socio-emotional outcomes, however little evidence suggests a possible association with executive functioning. Few studies have demonstrated that attachment style mediates working memory and learning relationships. We hypothesized that attachment style affects performance and cortical activity patterns of working memory.

Rationale: Although the immune system is thought to contribute to the etiology of schizophrenia, the mechanism has not been elucidated. Clarifying the relationship between them is important in terms of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention approaches.

Objective: In this study, it is aimed to determine whether there is any difference in serum levels of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in the group of patients with schizophrenia and healthy volunteers, whether these values are changed by medical treatment, whether there is any relation between these values and the severity of the symptoms of patients with schizophrenia, and whether NGAL can be used as a biomarker in the diagnosis and the follow-up of the schizophrenia.
