Background: Recent studies have suggested that increased brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) is a risk factor for diabetes. Exploring its relationship with insulin resistance is of interest, necessitating further studies across different sexes and age groups.
Methods And Results: This cohort study involved 119 170 Korean adults with an average age of 39.

Background: Amputation confers disabilities upon patients and is linked to substantial morbidity and death attributed to heart disease. While some studies have focused on traumatic amputees in veterans, few studies have focused on traumatic amputees within the general population. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the risk of heart disease in patients with traumatic amputation with disability within the general population using a large-scale nationwide population-based cohort.

Background: Information on the long-term prognosis in patients with isolated thalamic stroke is sparse. We report the functional outcomes of patients with thalamic stroke up to 24 months from the KOSCO (Korean Stroke Cohort for Functioning and Rehabilitation) study.
Methods And Results: Isolated thalamic stroke was defined as the presence of lesions solely in the thalamus, excluding cases with lesions in other brain parenchyma areas apart from the thalamus, as identified by brain magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography scans.

Background Although it is well known that the disordered brain provokes cardiac autonomic dysfunction, the detailed location of brain lesions related to cardiac function warrants further investigation. We aimed to elucidate the brain lesions topographically associated with left ventricular (LV) systolic function measured by myocardial strain in patients with acute ischemic stroke without preexisting primary cardiac dysfunction by using support vector regression lesion-symptom mapping. Methods and Results Subjects were those with LV ejection fraction of 50% or more among patients with acute ischemic stroke registered in the Samsung Medical Center stroke registry between 2016 and 2017.

The aim of this study was to explore the association between adherence to antihypertensive medication and clinical outcomes in adult patients with cancer. Methods and Results Using the 2002 to 2013 Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort, we extracted adult patients with cancer treated with antihypertensive medications.

Background Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of visual disability. AMD shares some risk factors with the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, previous studies examining the association between AMD and the risk of CVD provide conflicting results.

Introduction: The acceleration of biological aging is a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here, we performed weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to identify modules and dysregulated genesinvolved in biological aging in AD.
Methods: We performed WGCNA to identify modules associated with biological clocks and hub genes of the module with the highest module significance.
Light-based therapy such as photobiomodulation (PBM) reportedly produces beneficial physiological effects in cells and tissues. However, most reports have focused on the immediate and instant effects of light. Considering the physiological effects of natural light exposure in living organisms, the latent reaction period after irradiation should be deliberated.

Objectives: In patients with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), the immune system often fails to eradicate maternal cells that enter the foetus via the placenta, resulting in transplacental maternal engraftment (TME) syndrome. However, the clinical significance of TME has not been comprehensively elucidated.
Methods: Here, we describe a patient with SCID with a novel frameshift mutation associated with maternal engrafted CD8 T cells that had been expanded by viral infection.

This paper describes a new simple DNA detection method based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology using a silver nanowire stacked-glass fiber filter substrate. In this system, DNA-intercalating dye (EVAGreen) and reference dye (ROX) are used together to improve the repeatability and reliability of the SERS signals. We found that the SERS signal of EVAGreen was reduced by intercalation into DNA amplicons of a polymerase chain reaction on the silver nanowire stacked-glass fiber filter substrate, whereas that of ROX stayed constant.

We examined associations between the new BP categories and the risk of incident cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) in low-risk and young adults. Methods and Results A cohort study was performed in 244 837 Korean adults (mean age, 39.
