Background: Clopidogrel monotherapy improved clinical outcomes compared with aspirin monotherapy during a chronic maintenance period in patients who underwent coronary stenting in the HOST-EXAM (Harmonizing Optimal Strategy for Treatment of Coronary Artery Stenosis-Extended Antiplatelet Monotherapy) trial. However, it is uncertain whether the beneficial effect of clopidogrel over aspirin is different according to the renal function.
Methods And Results: We conducted a post hoc analysis of the HOST-EXAM trial.

Background: Amputation confers disabilities upon patients and is linked to substantial morbidity and death attributed to heart disease. While some studies have focused on traumatic amputees in veterans, few studies have focused on traumatic amputees within the general population. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the risk of heart disease in patients with traumatic amputation with disability within the general population using a large-scale nationwide population-based cohort.

Background: Information on the long-term prognosis in patients with isolated thalamic stroke is sparse. We report the functional outcomes of patients with thalamic stroke up to 24 months from the KOSCO (Korean Stroke Cohort for Functioning and Rehabilitation) study.
Methods And Results: Isolated thalamic stroke was defined as the presence of lesions solely in the thalamus, excluding cases with lesions in other brain parenchyma areas apart from the thalamus, as identified by brain magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography scans.
Metal chelator-based contrast agents are used as tumor navigators for cancer diagnosis. Although approved metal chelators show excellent contrast performance in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), large doses are required for cancer diagnoses due to rapid clearance and nonspecific accumulation throughout the body, which can compromise safety. The present study describes an enzyme-responsive metal delivery system, in which enzyme overexpressed in the tumor microenvironment selectively activates the tumor uptake of gadolinium (Gd).

Background Although it is well known that the disordered brain provokes cardiac autonomic dysfunction, the detailed location of brain lesions related to cardiac function warrants further investigation. We aimed to elucidate the brain lesions topographically associated with left ventricular (LV) systolic function measured by myocardial strain in patients with acute ischemic stroke without preexisting primary cardiac dysfunction by using support vector regression lesion-symptom mapping. Methods and Results Subjects were those with LV ejection fraction of 50% or more among patients with acute ischemic stroke registered in the Samsung Medical Center stroke registry between 2016 and 2017.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) presents with condensed stroma that contributes to its high invasive capability. Although metformin adjuvant treatment has been suggested to improve the survival times of patients with PDAC, the mechanism responsible for that benefit has been investigated only in two-dimensional cell lines. We assessed the anti-cancer effect of metformin in a three-dimensional (3D) co-culture model to quantify the migration behavior of patient-derived PDAC organoids and primary pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs).

Targeting tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) signaling is a promising approach in cancer treatment. Although ERK and/or NF-κB signaling is involved in the expression of TRAIL receptors (TRAIL-R), the exact underlying mechanisms remain unknown. In this study, we evaluated the role of ERK2 and NF-κB in the cytotoxicity of TRAIL during cisplatin treatment.

However, certain points regarding conventional ADSC delivery systems, such as low cell density, secreted cytokine levels, and cell viability, still need to be addressed for treating severe wounds. In this study, we developed a three-dimensional (3D) cavity-structured stem cell-laden system for overdense delivery of cells into severe wound sites.

Although oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy is the current standard adjuvant therapy for colorectal cancer (CRC), the molecular mechanisms underlying oxaliplatin resistance remain unclear. Here, we examined the molecular mechanisms underlying SLC22A18-associated oxaliplatin resistance and strategies for overcoming oxaliplatin resistance. We evaluated the association between SLC22A18 and prognosis in 337 patients with CRC and its functional significance and studied the mechanisms through which SLC22A18 affects oxaliplatin resistance development in CRC cells, using CRC cell lines and patient-derived cells (PDCs).
