Background: Remimazolam is a novel ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine known for its hemodynamic stability over propofol. However, its hemodynamic effects compared to those of etomidate are not well established. This study aimed to determine whether the use of remimazolam is non-inferior to etomidate with regard to the occurrence of post-induction hypotension in patients undergoing coronary arterial bypass grafting.

Study Objective: The emergence profiles in patients undergoing total intravenous anesthesia with either propofol or remimazolam with flumazenil reversal were compared.
Design: A prospective, double-blind, randomized trial.
Setting: An operating room and a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).

Study Objective: Dynamic arterial elastance (Eadyn) has been suggested as a functional measure of arterial load. We aimed to evaluate whether pre-induction Eadyn can predict post-induction hypotension.
Design: Prospective observational study.

We evaluated the effects of three different inspired oxygen concentrations (40%, 80%, and 100%) at anaesthesia emergence on postoperative lung volumes as measured by global impedance of electrical impedance tomography (EIT). This is a randomised, controlled, and assessor-blinded study in single-centre from May 2017 to August 2017. Seventy-one patients undergoing elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery with healthy lung condition were randomly allocated into the three groups based on the concentration of inspired oxygen applied during anaesthesia emergence: 40%-, 80%- or 100%-oxygen.

Purpose: To investigate whether rapamycin protects tear production and the ocular surface during endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-induced dry eye syndrome in mice.
Methods: Tunicamycin was injected intraperitoneally in BALB/c mice without or with rapamycin (TM or RM5 group). Peritoneal injection of PBS performed in vehicle group.

Refractory intra-operative cardiac arrest is a challenging issue for anaesthetists. In this study, we analysed the outcomes of adult patients who received extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation for refractory intra-operative cardiac arrest between 2005 and 2016, using data from our institutional extracorporeal membrane oxygenation registry. We defined refractory intra-operative cardiac arrest as the failure of a return of spontaneous circulation after 30 min of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

is emerging as a challenging nosocomial pathogen due to its rapid evolution of antibiotic resistance. We report characterization of two novel bacteriophages, PBAB08 and PBAB25, infecting clinically isolated, multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains. Both phages belonged to Myoviridae of Caudovirales as their morphology observed under an electron microscope.

Background: Peak systolic longitudinal strain (PSLS) obtained using the 2D speckle tracking method is a novel indicator of the long-axis function of the left ventricle (LV). We used the 2D strain profile to examine the effect of preload reduction by hemodialysis (HD) on LV PSLS in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Method And Results: Twenty-nine pairs of echocardiographic evaluations were obtained before and after dialysis.

Aims: Gastric carcinoma confined to the muscularis propria (MPGC) is considered an intermediate-stage carcinoma. A method of discriminating between more favourable and less favourable prognostic groups of this entity is critically needed in dealing with this heterogeneous disease. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between survival of patients with MPGC and its various clinicopathological parameters.

Background: In cholangiocarcinoma (CC), HER-2/neu protein overexpression has rarely been reported and the results are conflicting. The present study aimed to clarify the rates of HER-2/neu protein overexpression and gene amplification in human extrahepatic CC and to evaluate the correlation between HER-2/neu and several clinicopathologic features.
Patients And Methods: We investigated HER-2 gene amplification by chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) and HER-2/neu protein overexpression by immunohistochemistry in 55 extrahepatic CC patients who underwent curative surgery at our institution.
