PD-1 signaling pathway in sepsis: Does it have a future?

Sepsis is characterized by high mortality and poor prognosis and is one of the leading causes of death among patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). In the past, drugs that block early inflammatory responses have done little to reverse the progression of sepsis. Programmed cell death receptor 1 (PD-1) and its two ligands, programmed cell death receptor ligand 1(PD-L1) and programmed cell death receptor ligand 2 (PD-L2), are negative regulatory factors of the immune response of the body.

Objective: Meniscal degeneration is strongly associated with osteoarthritis (OA). We aimed to evaluate a 3D ultrashort-echo-time Cones magnetization transfer (UTE-Cones-MT) sequence for quantification of macromolecular fraction (MMF) and MT ratio (MTR) in menisci of healthy volunteers and patients with different degrees of OA.

Methods: Patients with mild OA (n = 19; 37-86 years; 10 males) or advanced OA (n = 12; 52-88 years; 4 males) and healthy volunteers (n = 17; 20-49 years; 7 males) were scanned with T2-FSE and UTE-Cones-MT sequences at 3T.

Prenatal and postnatal exposure to Bisphenol A and Asthma: a systemic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a plasticizer with high production and ubiquitous usage in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. The association between prenatal or postnatal exposure to BPA and childhood wheeze/asthma has not been well established. Our study aimed to provide further justification for the current studies.

Identification of an Immune-Related Risk Signature Correlates With Immunophenotype and Predicts Anti-PD-L1 Efficacy of Urothelial Cancer.

Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment has been used to treat advanced urothelial cancer. Molecular markers might improve risk stratification and prediction of ICI benefit for urothelial cancer patients. We analyzed 406 cases of bladder urothelial cancer from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data set and identified 161 messenger RNAs (mRNAs) as differentially expressed immunity genes (DEIGs).

Efficacy and Safety of Pramipexole Sustained Release versus Immediate Release Formulation for Nocturnal Symptoms in Chinese Patients with Advanced Parkinson's Disease: A Pilot Study.

Objective: To explore the efficacy and safety of pramipexole sustained release (SR) versus pramipexole immediate release (IR) in treating nocturnal symptoms in levodopa-treated Chinese patients with advanced Parkinson's disease (PD) and sleep disturbances.

Method: SUSTAIN was an open-label, randomised, active-controlled parallel group exploratory pilot study (NCT03521635). A total of 98 patients were randomly allocated (1 : 1) to either pramipexole SR ( = 49) or pramipexole IR ( = 49) groups.

Regulated cell death in cisplatin-induced AKI: relevance of -inositol metabolism.

Regulated cell death (RCD), distinct from accidental cell death, refers to a process of well-controlled programmed cell death with well-defined pathological mechanisms. In the past few decades, various terms for RCDs were coined, and some of them have been implicated in the pathogenesis of various types of acute kidney injury (AKI). Cisplatin is widely used as a chemotherapeutic drug for a broad spectrum of cancers, but its usage was hampered because of being highly nephrotoxic.

Combined therapy of intensive statin plus intravenous rt-PA in acute ischemic stroke: the INSPIRE randomized clinical trial.

Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of intensive statin in the acute phase of ischemic stroke after intravenous thrombolysis therapy.

Methods: A total of 310 stroke patients treated with rt-PA were randomly scheduled into the intensive statin group (rosuvastatin 20 mg daily × 14 days) and the control group (rosuvastatin 5 mg daily × 14 days). The primary clinical endpoint was excellent functional outcome (mRS ≤ 1) at 3 months, and the primary safety endpoint was symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) in 90 days.

Speech-induced atrial tachycardia (AT) is extremely rare. We presented a case of focal AT that could be triggered by speech and terminated with the cessation of conversation. An electrophysiological study showed that the outbreak was associated with left atrial pressure rose.

Public Health Interventions for the COVID-19 Pandemic Reduce Respiratory Tract Infection-Related Visits at Pediatric Emergency Departments in Taiwan.

Public health interventions such as social distancing, wearing surgical or N95 masks, and handwashing are effective in significantly reducing the risk of infection. The purpose of this article is to analyze the effect of public health interventions on respiratory tract infection-related visits to pediatric emergency departments during the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan. Pediatric emergency department visits between January 1 2020 and April 30 2020 were included for trend analysis and compared to the same period during the past 3 years.

Currently, various treatments such as hemorrhoidectomy, ligation and sclerotherapy injection can be applied in grade II or III hemorrhoids. This study aims to compare the clinical efficacy, safety and economy between Shaobei injection and elastic band ligation in treating patients with grade II or grade III hemorrhoids. A retrospective cohort study was used.

Methods: The Cochrane Library, Ovid, PubMed, the Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE), and the Chinese Biomedical Literature Databases (CBM) were searched to find trials about the evaluation of pituitary target glands before and after pituitary adenoma resection. The databases were searched from the earliest available trials until the end of September 2019.

Education and stroke: evidence from epidemiology and Mendelian randomization study.

We aim to characterize the association between education and incident stroke (including total stroke, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke) and assess whether there is a causal relationship between them. The final sample size was 11,509 in this study from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study. Cox hazard regression models were used to explore the association between education level and incident stroke.

Continuous Production of Water-Borne Polyurethanes: A Review.

In this work, an electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) approach has been developed and has been demonstrated to be a general strategy to fabricate TMPs for the first time.
