Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) possesses tyrosine kinase activity and participates in cell growth, differentiation and migration, and survival. Its alterations, mainly including mutations, amplifications, and overexpression are associated with poor prognosis and are one of the major drivers in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Several clinical trials had been investigating on the treatments of HER2-altered NSCLC, including conventional chemotherapy, programmed death 1 (PD-1) inhibitors, tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), however, the results were either disappointing or encouraging, but inconsistent.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have successfully treated a number of different types of cancer, which is of great significance for cancer treatment. With the widespread use of ICIs in clinical practice, the increasing checkpoint inhibitor pneumonia (CIP) will be a challenge to clinicians. To guide the diagnosis and treatment of CIP, we conducted in-depth discussions based on the latest evidence, forming a consensus among Chinese experts on the multidisciplinary management of CIP.

DEFEAT: Decoupled feature attack across deep neural networks.

Neural Netw

December 2022

School of Computer Science and Engineering, Sun Yet-Sen University, China; Guangdong Key Laboratory of Information Security Technology, China. Electronic address:

Adversarial attacks pose a security challenge for deep neural networks, motivating researchers to build various defense methods. Consequently, the performance of black-box attacks turns down under defense scenarios. A significant observation is that some feature-level attacks achieve an excellent success rate to fool undefended models, while their transferability is severely degraded when encountering defenses, which give a false sense of security.

Gene fusions can drive tumor development for multiple types of cancer. Currently, many drugs targeting gene fusions are being approved for clinical application. At present, tyrosine receptor kinase (TRK) inhibitors targeting neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase (NTRK) gene fusions are among the first "tumor agnostic" drugs approved for pan-cancer use.

Background: KAMILLA is a single-arm safety study of trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1) in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive advanced breast cancer (BC; NCT01702571). We report the final analysis of cohort 2 (Asia) within the context of published cohort 1 (Global) findings.

Methods: Patients had HER2-positive, locally advanced, or metastatic BC progressing after chemotherapy and anti-HER2 therapy or ≤6 months after adjuvant therapy.

Propelling consumer engagement entrepreneurs' live streaming?

Front Psychol

August 2022

Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau, Macao, Macao SAR, China.

Entrepreneurs' live streaming (ELS) is an important tool for marketing, and it can increase consumer engagement, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous live streaming literature mainly focused on third-party live streaming, targeted at professional streamers and online celebrities. This study aims to discuss the factors underlying consumer engagement in the ELS.

Background: Messages on one's stance toward vaccination on microblogging sites may affect the reader's decision on whether to receive a vaccine. Understanding the dissemination of provaccine and antivaccine messages relating to COVID-19 on social media is crucial; however, studies on this topic have remained limited.

Objective: This study applies the elaboration likelihood model (ELM) to explore the characteristics of vaccine stance messages that may appeal to Twitter users.

Bacterial pathogens are well equipped to adhere to and initiate infection in teleost fish. Fish skin mucus serves as the first barrier against environmental pathogens. The mucus harbors commensal microbes that impact host physiological and immunological responses.

Article Synopsis
  • - Nrf2 plays a crucial role in how the liver responds to cholestasis, a condition caused by bile duct blockage, influencing both the start and progression of liver diseases.
  • - In experiments with mice, the absence of Nrf2 led to greater dedifferentiation of liver cells, shown by increased markers associated with stemness and decreased albumin production over time.
  • - By the late stages of cholestasis, wild-type mice showed signs of differentiation and maintained key protein expressions, while Nrf2-deficient mice exhibited severe dedifferentiation and an inability to express proteins necessary for proper liver function.

Arsenic trioxide increases apoptosis of SK-N-BE (2) cells partially by inducing GPX4-mediated ferroptosis.

Mol Biol Rep

July 2022

Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Sun Yet-Sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yet-Sen University, Yan Jiang Xi Road, No. 107, Guangzhou, 510120, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * Proteomic analysis showed that ATO alters ferroptosis-related signaling pathways, increasing iron absorption and ferritinophagy while decreasing the critical ferroptosis inhibitor GPX4 in NB cells.
  • * The study concludes that ATO may trigger ferroptosis in neuroblastoma cells by reducing GPX4, leading to cell death through an iron-dependent oxidative process.

Background: This study determined the predictive value of CRMP4 promoter methylation in prostate tissues collected by core needle biopsies for a postoperative upgrade of Gleason Score (GS) to ≥8 in patients with low-risk PCa.

Method: A retrospective analysis of the clinical data was conducted from 631 patients diagnosed with low-risk PCa by core needle biopsy at multiple centers and then underwent Radical Prostatectomy (RP) from 2014-2019. Specimens were collected by core needle biopsy to detect CRMP4 promoter methylation.

Although multistability is an important dynamic property of a wide range of complex systems, it is still a challenge to develop mathematical models for realising high order multistability using realistic regulatory mechanisms. To address this issue, we propose a robust method to develop multistable mathematical models by embedding bistable models together. Using the GATA1-GATA2-PU.

The use of vaccines for cancer therapy is a promising immunotherapeutic strategy that has been shown to be effective against various cancers. Vaccines directly target tumors but their efficacy against glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) remains unclear. Immunotyping that classifies tumor samples is considered to be a biomarker for immunotherapy.

The number of circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) was found to increase in patients with breast cancer, but the alteration in EPC function remains to be elusive. We conducted this study to evaluate the number and function of peripheral EPCs of breast cancer patients and its possible underlying mechanism. Besides, the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), VCAM-1, IL-6, and IL-34 levels were measured in blood samples and also in vitro in a medium of EPCs.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women. The estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) are the important biomarkers in the prognosis of breast cancer, and their expression is used to categorize breast cancer into subtypes. We aimed to analyze the concordance among ER, PR, and HER2 expression levels and breast cancer subtyping results obtained by immunohistochemistry (IHC, for protein) and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR, for mRNA) and to assess the recurrence-free survival (RFS) of the different subtypes as determined by the two methods.
